Poll: Half Of Americans Believe Saddam Possessed WMD Before Invasion

A new poll shows that half of Americans believe that Iraq possessed WMD when the US first invaded. The story, from the Denver Post, of course says that the reason is not growing proof that they did, but:

...a drumbeat of voices including talk radio, bloggers and the Oval Office, a surprise headline here or there, a rallying around a partisan flag, and a need for people to justify the war in Iraq.

People tend to become "independent of reality" in these circumstances, says opinion analyst Steven Kull.

That's right, the elitist left can believe that half of the nation is stupid enough to be duped by Karl Rove, I mean, some one had to vote for GW.

The real reason behind the poll numbers is the growing heap of evidence that Iraq in fact did posses WMD before the invasion. Says Boortz:

...here is a list of the weapons of mass destruction that have been found in Iraq since Operation Iraqi Freedom began:
  1. A 155-millimeter artillery round containing Sarin nerve agent was found, which is a weapon of mass destruction.

  2. U.S. military units have discovered mustard gas that was used in an IED, or improvised explosive device. Mustard gas is a weapon of mass destruction.

  3. In all, some 500 weapons containing mustard gas or Sarin nerve agent have been found in Iraq since the invasion. Again, both of these are weapons of mass destruction.

A colleague of mine, Michael, wrote an excellent article (and a long one) at our now closed blog NeoConReview titled " WMDs and Iraq" which lays out the case that Saddam had WMD and either hid or moved them (we have found many of them).

Michael also lists some of the WMD agents we have found:

Found: 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium

Found: 1,500 gallons of chemical weapons

Found: Roadside bomb loaded with sarin gas

Found: 1,000 radioactive materials--ideal for radioactive dirty bombs

Found: 17 chemical warheads--some containing cyclosarin, a nerve agent five times more powerful than sarin
