Miracle Baby Comes Back From The Dead

It's a slow news day, so here's a miracle to read about:

After trying for 30 minutes to bring two-week-old Woody Lander back to life, doctors decided there was nothing more they could do and called in his parents to say their tearful farewells.

A nurse passed Woody to his heartbroken father and gently pulled a tube from his mouth so they could kiss him goodbye.

It was then that the miracle happened. The lifeless baby suddenly coughed and moved. Nurses immediately grabbed Woody back, re-attached the tubes and lifesaving equipment and he came back to life in front of his astonished parents.

He's now 14 months old and perfectly healthy.

New Curriculum: Math, Science And Socialism

Home schooling's starting to look more and more appealing these days. Apparently teachers in Seattle have been teaching their students that private ownership is evil, by banning Legos:

According to the article, the students had been building an elaborate "Legotown," but it was accidentally demolished. The teachers decided its destruction was an opportunity to explore "the inequities of private ownership." According to the teachers, "Our intention was to promote a contrasting set of values: collectivity, collaboration, resource-sharing, and full democratic participation."
More like promote socialism. One hopes they at least found time to teach, I don't know, math or English or something. But looking at the state of American schools, I'm guessing they probably skipped those lessons.

Foxy Bandits

And just when I thought my avoidence of minorities would keep me safe (yes, that's a joke), two foxy bandits have held up a bank in Georgia. Do I have to start avoiding hot college chicks, too? I think I'll take my chances...

Here are the foxy bandits, wearing their Paris Hilton disguises:

Question: They weren't armed; would you give them the money, or laugh in their faces?

Stock Market Begins To Rebound

The stock market has rebounded "fitfully" after yesterdays plunge. Expect to hear little from the media. At least they're mentioning it, but probably just as damage control after blatant bias in ignoring record highs for months straight only to hastily report the first significant drop in as much time.

A True Hero Turns 79

Happy Birthday Ariel Sharon. You're not forgotten.

Who's Running In '08, Anyway?

WaPo has a list of all the Presidential candidates, including some I've never heard of. Probably because it includes people who haven't announced they're running yet, like The Goracle. It's worth a look anyway.

New Headline Of The Year!

And again, in less than 24 hours, we have a new headline of the year:

Australia rocked by 'lesbian' koala revelation
Thank you, New Zealand Herald, for that one.

Rutheford wishes me to note that this in no way shows that homosexuality is natuarl, as the story mentions:
The furry, eucalyptus-eating creatures appear to develop this tendency for same-sex liaisons when they are in captivity. In the wild, they remain heterosexual.
Sounds to me like the horny little ladies just thrive under human care and hump anything in site. Kind of like gay thrive in San Fransisco and... Well, you get it...

Obama Christ Watch

Holy shit! Can this guy do anything wrong in the eyes of these ball-licking libs? It makes me sick:

What honesty! Isn't it refreshing! Don't you love how he tells it like it is? I'd prefer a President who did lie about using drugs. You know why? Because every damn kid in the country looks up to the President - the most powerful man in the world - and if Barrack had any regard for the effect this would have on kids that idolize him he would just say, "No. Pot's for losers." And what's this BS that those talking heads are spouting about how it's culturally accepted now? This is the same defense they used when Clinton was banging fat chicks in the White House. The definition of "culturally acceptable" is apparently if the Democrats have been caught doing it.

Cheney Possible Target In Afghan Suicide Bombing

Some Islamists may have tried to kill our Vice President today:

A suicide bomber attacked the entrance to the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Tuesday during a visit by Vice President Dick Cheney, killing up to 23 people and wounding 20. The Taliban claimed responsibility and said Cheney, who was unharmed, was the target.

The office of Afghan President Hamid Karzai reported that 23 people had been killed, but the U.S. military put the toll at nine. The discrepancy could not be reconciled immediately. At least one U.S. soldier, an American contractor and a South Korean soldier were among the dead, NATO said.

Cheney’s spokeswoman said he was fine, and the vice president later met with Karzai in the capital, Kabul, before leaving the country.

Although there's speculation that this was just a random suicide bomber, and that the Taliban's claim that they were behind it and that Cheney was the target are BS. The mainstream media seems reluctant to report this, maybe because they like the idea of a resurgence of Taliban violence in Afghanistan. Buried at the bottom of the above quoted story:
Maj. William Mitchell said it did not appear the explosion was intended as a threat to the vice president. “He wasn’t near the site of the explosion,” Mitchell said. “He was safely within the base at the time of the explosion.”
Meanwhile, here are some good roundups of the absolute insanity of the left in reaction to this attack, ranging from "Damn, Cheney didn't die!" to "Great, another Cheney ploy to get support in killing more Afghans!"

LGF's Roundup

Malkin's Roundup

Al-Zawraa Off The Air

Looks like the terrorists have lost one of their main propaganda channels. Now they'll have to revert back to CNN:

Today, Lebanon's Daily Star reports that NileSat has removed al-Zawraa, with this explanation: "'The Iraqi Al-Zawraa satellite channel on NileSat 101 was cut off after it repeatedly interfered with the transmission of several other channels,' the state-owned Al-Gomhuriyah newspaper reported. It said several channels had been experiencing transmission problems that were traced to Al-Zawraa. The channel was initially disconnected on Thursday and the problems stopped immediately."

Diggbats Unhinged

Over at LGF their war with the Diggbatts seems to rage on. Posted is this comment form a Digg user, about LGF:

For anyone who’s not aware LGF is an anti Semtic [sic] site posing as a pro Jewish site it tries to post as many stories as it can about Muslims just so people will get really p*ssed at reading about how bad muslims are and get angry at Jews.
Take a moment to reflect on the actual line of thought being promoted here. The implication is that LGF purposefully showcases Muslim atrocities, so that people will get so pissed at Muslims, that they'll get pissed at the Jews. Charles seems to think that this is representative of the left's dishonesty; I'm more inclined to think of it as an example of the left's stupidity.

How To Get The MSM To Care About The Stock Market

I've seen this story all over my news feeds. Where was the MSM's interest in the stock market for the last couple months when it's been hitting record highs every other day?

The Dow Jones industrial average was down more than 500 points with about an hour of trading left today but then gained about 100 of it back. The Nasdaq Composite fell more than 100.

The Dow fell 546.02, or 4.3 percent, to 12,086.06 before recovering some ground. It was down 407.29, or 3.22 percent, at 12,224.97 in the last hour of trading.

...

A 9 percent slide in Chinese stocks, which came a day after investors sent Shanghai's benchmark index to a record high close, set the tone for U.S. trading. The Dow began the day falling sharply, and the decline accelerated throughout the course of the session before stocks took a precipitous plunge in late afternoon as computer-driven sell programs kicked in.

Presumably this is the market adjusting after China's slide. Economic recovery should follow shortly.

Angry Christians Beat James Cameron

Over at Ace of Spades HQ, Ace puts the difference between Christianity (any religion really) and Islam in perspective:

Angry Christians Shout "Christ Is Risen" As They Beat James Cameron For Making Jesus-Is-Dead Film

—Ace

Oh, wait, I got that headline wrong. Muslims chant "Allah is great" while beating a director for displaying the barbaric practice of "honor" killings.

So easy to make that mistake, you know? I mean, it's hard to keep track of which religion it is murdering people this week. It's always changing.

Anyway, they rioters claim that the director misrepresented the region they came from by depicting it as filled with "honor" killings and general "honor" violence.

Post here. Read the whole thing. As usual, Ace is enlightening and at the same time funny as Hell.

Who's Really Looking Out For 'The Poor'

By: Shane

Since LBJ first had the idea of a Great Society and began to implement massive socialist reforms, the Left has vastly redefined poverty to further their socialist agenda and welfare policy.

As the Washington think tank The Heritage Foundation points out, a rich man used to own a horse, and a poor man had to walk. These days a rich man owns a BMW and a poor man makes due with a used Buick. The difference between rich and poor in America has become merely aesthetic. When we think of poverty, we imagine people who are homeless and starving to death. This just isn’t the case. Liberals and the media have redefined poverty to include anyone who can’t afford to buy the luxury items that the average working American enjoys.

The Heritage foundation's data shows that “Forty-six percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.” On top of that, 76% of “poor” households have air-conditioning, 75% own cars, 97% have colored televisions (more than 50% own two or more colored TVs), 78% have VCRs or DVD players, 62% have cable or satellite, 73% have microwaves, more than 50% have stereo systems, and 33% have dishwashers.

Welfare isn’t just going to people who could actually use it - the people who are starving on the streets with no place to sleep at night. A vast majority of it is going to people who are simply too lazy to find work. And why would they want to work when they can have a higher quality of living than the average citizen of Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe without lifting a finger?

The Left thrives on creating class warfare; convincing people that they are victims who need the government’s help. This is how they get votes, basically buying them by promising people who feel a sense of entitlement government paychecks for doing absolutely nothing. While the Left is exploiting the poor to gain power, you and I are paying for it through the countless taxes the Left has placed on practically everything, including sales tax on the things we buy, sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco, taxes on services such as auto repair and movie tickets, and taxes on our income, among many others.

If you want a government handout, you’d better actually need it, and not just be sitting in a nice house with the AC blasting watching your TV or driving to the mall to pick up some new clothes (and grabbing some groceries with your food stamps while your out). When a vast majority of welfare recipients have a better standard of living then most Europeans, you know the system is no longer helping those in need, but has become a means of redistributing wealth that's so sneaky Lennon, Marx and Mao would be impressed.

If the Left really cared about the poor they would stop stifling economic growth in America with their incessant taxes and regulations. Cutting taxes not only increases government revenue, but it allows the private sector to flourish, creating more high paying jobs, effectively reducing poverty. Government enforced minimum wage laws lead to an increase in unemployment, hurting the poor. Instead of making $5 an hour like they would before a minimum wage increase, many low skill workers would be fired by employers who couldn't afford to pay the new higher wages. Then they make no money at all; how does that help them? By attempting to restrain an increasingly intrusive government from hindering the free market, conservatives are the ones who are really looking out for the poor. Liberals have simply locked America's poor in a vicious cycle of poverty, and all so they could get a few more votes. Ask yourself; who's really helping the poor?

UITF Technical Update

I'm often jealous of Charles Johnson's vast coding knowledge, so I figured it was time for an UITF "Technical Update."

After a few minutes of tinkering, I finally figured out how to add a "Digg This!" button to our posts. So now, if we decide a post has enough original content to be worthy of a Digg submission, you'll see this cool little button at the bottom of the post:

So, you know, whenever you see that little button, help out the conservative movement and give it a click (excluding the one in this post, of course).

Japanese WWII Atrocities

I stumbled upon this article about a WWII Japanese Naval Officer's "medical dissection and murder of living prisoners of war" simply to learn anatomy, a reminder of Japanese atrocities during WWII.

And some people think we shouldn't have dropped the bomb?

Anyway, I found it interesting, if not utterly disgusting.

The Goracle's Hypocrisy

Hat tip to Hot Air, who links to this report highlighting The Goracle's hypocrisy:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

I'm not saying the guy doesn't have the right to live however he wants to, he's the one saying it! If you're going to preach about how Americans should be living their lives, the least you can do is live that lifestyle yourself!

24 Tonight, Get Pumped!

Get pumped! 24 tonight, with the return of America's favorite President, Charles Logan.

LGF has everything you'd want to know about the three French tourists murdered in Saudi Arabia for wondering into a "No Infidels Allowed" area, including this revealing photo of the kind of segregation that exists in the Middle East:

Former ACLU Of Virginia President Arrested For Downloading Kiddy Porn

You haven't heard anything from me about the ACLU president downloading kiddy porn because the whole thing makes me sick. Here's a refresher on the story, from ABC:

Federal agents arrested Charles Rust-Tierney, the former president of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU, Friday in Arlington for allegedly possessing child pornography.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by ABC News, Rust-Tierney allegedly used his e-mail address and credit card to subscribe to and access a child pornography website.

The complaint states that federal investigations into child pornography websites revealed that "Charles Rust-Tierney has subscribed to multiple child pornography website over a period of years."

As recently as last October, the complaint alleges, "Rust-Tierney purchased access to a group of hardcore commercial child pornography websites."

One wonders what law enforcement is doing with all the tax-payer funds they receive when there is such a thing as a "commercial child pornography" website, but then, I guess they caught the perverts using it.

The ABC story describes the porn he had (in case you're actually from the ACLU, and therefore think kiddy porn shouldn't be illegal):

The videos described in the complaint depict graphic forcible intercourse with prepubescent females. One if the girls is described in court documents as being "seen and heard crying", another is described as being "bound by rope."

Honestly, these people leave me speechless...

Stop The ACLU has a roundup going. Ace notes that Rust-Tierney wife may have known about his Kiddy Porn.

***Update, 4:52pm***

Practically every mention of this guy has been removed from the ACLU of Virginia's website, but in case you were wondering how a pedofile's brain works, here's a statement he wrote following the September 11th attacks:

Long recognized as one of the nation's foremost advocacy
groups, the ACLU emerged as the preeminent voice for
protecting civil liberties following the attacks by terrorists last
fall. While the National ACLU continues to work at the highest
levels of public policy, most notably in Congress, the state
affiliates, as always, are in the trenches.

In this newsletter, you will find numerous references to the
ACLU of Virginia's work on post-September 11 issues, from our
op-ed that appeared in newspapers last fall to our defense of the
suspended Muslim student attending UVA, from protecting a
shopkeeper's right to post an anti-terrorism sign to lobbying
against the General Assembly's overreactions to terrorism.

And there are other important efforts you will not read
about here. You will not see a listing of the scores of speaking
engagements and media interviews taken on by staff and
volunteers to educate the public on the value of maintaining
constitutional rights in times of crisis. This kind of public
education is especially important at a time when so many people
seem eager to put aside fairness and freedom to fight terrorism.

You also will not find chronicled in this newsletter the
numerous calls to our office from concerned minority groups and
individuals seeking guidance as the threats to their privacy and
safety mount. Some say that our nation is returning to normal,
but that is certainly not true for those who practice the Muslim
faith or whose name or appearance even vaguely ties them to the
Middle East.

That's right, following 9/11 the single most important issue facing the nation was "public education," "at a time when so many people seem[ed] eager to put aside fairness and freedom to fight terrorism."

Ridiculous...

***Update, 5:13pm***

My God, I wanted to do a little more research into this so I ran a search through Google News for "Rust-Tierney." It yielded only 17 results!

Iranian Fauxtography?

An update on Rutheford's mention of Iran possibly launching a rocket into space; turns out, "the blessed rocket was actually a below-orbit satellite which goes above balloons but below satellites." Not quite launching a rocket into space, eh, Mahmoud?

Not only that, but Gateway Pundit has discovered that most of the pictures the Iranian media is circulating of their "space rocket" are actually recycled shots of American and Australian rockets. While this doesn't prove they didn't even launch a rocket, it certainly suggests it.

More lies from an oppressive government. Any surprise? You've got to keep the oppressed impressed, or they might just start to think for themselves and not stand up for that Sharia shit.

Three Random Stories

Three quick Sunday stories:

Teachers are under appreciated heroes that deserve our respect and far more money. Here's an example of the selfless sacrifices our teachers and administrators make:

Drugs in school is a serious problem. But here's one for the books.

A Florida middle school principal is charged with possession of cocaine and soliciting to purchase cocaine on school property.

The felony carries a minimum sentence of three years in prison.

Police say Anthony Giancola, principal of Tampa's Van Buren Middle School, was arrested in the school lobby Thursday after buying 20 dollars' worth of crack from an undercover officer while students were on campus.
It's gotten to the point where our teachers need to become drug addicts, we put them under so much pressure.

Next, Iran moves on in their climb to world domination - something that's not hard to do if no one is trying to stop you:
Iranian media say the country has successfully launched its first rocket capable of reaching space.

But officials later said it was for research and would not go into orbit.

Experts say if Iran has fired a rocket into space it would cause alarm abroad as it would mean scientists had crossed important technological barriers.

Iran has made little secret of its desire to become a space power and already has a satellite in orbit launched by the Russians.

I thought this was an American problem:

LONDON — The newest fashion among schoolgirls is getting knocked up, according to one pregnant 14-year-old whose four friends are also expecting.

British teen Kizzy Neal says she's been approached for advice from other pregnant girls her age ever since she conceived, reported London's Daily Mail.

"When my friends see my bump they say they wish they could have a baby, then three weeks later they're pregnant and don't know what to do," Neal said.

"It seems to be fashionable to get pregnant. ... Teenage girls think babies are cute, but they forget the physical side of being pregnant, then having to give up your own childhood to look after a baby," she told the paper.

Neal says she got pregnant the first time she had sex with her 13-year-old boyfriend.

Sick.

Daily Kos Defends Iraqi Terrorists

Over at Daily Kos there is a vial post defending the terrorists in Iraq, you know, the "freedom fighters" who are killing the "occupation."

LGF and Jawa among others have reported this. Here's a small, vial quote from a gigantic post filled with anti-American venom:

Writing in The Guardian yesterday, Peter Beaumont depicts the insurgents as brutal and immoral "jihadi fighters", who "use human shields and force children to run weapons for them." Meanwhile, the occupying forces are painted as benevolent bystanders, trying their hardest to combat the evil jihadis whilst sparing innocent civilian lives.

The demonisation of the Iraqi insurgency is understandable. It is in the interests of the political elites, and the corporate media that serve them, to portray any opposition to Western imperial policies as illegitimate, terroristic and barbaric. That an imperialistic or occupying power will attempt to demonise any resistance to it is a historical universal, as writer and activist Tariq Ali points out:

"Every resistance movement against imperialism has been categorised as terrorist ‹ the Mau Mau in Kenya were demonised and brutally tortured by the British; the Algerian FLN by the French; the Vietnamese by the French and the Americans.

Today Israel’s Ariel Sharon refers to Palestinians as terrorists, Russia’s Vladimir Putin crushes the Chechens in the name of fighting terror and Tony Blair is assaulting traditional civil liberties in this country in the name of fighting terror. It’s hardly surprising that the Iraqi resistance is characterised in the same fashion."

A quick examination of the reality, however, tells a very different story. Firstly, the Iraqi resistance is overwhelmingly indigenous. According to Major General Joseph Taluto, "99.9 per cent" of militants captured fighting U.S. forces in Iraq are Iraqi. When U.S. and Iraqi soldiers ‘methodically swept through Tall Afar’ in the largest counter-insurgency operation of 2005, they killed nearly 200 insurgents and detained close to 1,000. All those detained were Iraqi. Serious analysts of the occupation have long recognised that, in Scott Ritter’s words, the "anti-US resistance in Iraq today is Iraqi in nature, and more broadly based and deeply rooted than acknowledged." In a recent article for the International Journal of Contemporary Iraqi Studies, Stephen Zunes writes (.pdf) that "the al-Qaeda-inspired jihadists and the foreign fighters upon whom the Bush administration has focused represent only a small minority of the insurgency." The U.S. and UK governments, together with the Western media, focus disproportionately on the very few foreign fighters present in Iraq to minimise Iraqi opposition to the occupation and to delegitimise the resistance. In addition, as Zunes explains, branding the entire resistance movement "terrorists" (or by focusing disproportionately on al-Qaeda’s small role in the insurgency, thereby associating the insurgency as a whole with terrorism) enables Bush and Blair to present Iraq as a front in the "war on terror", whereas in fact it is nothing of the sort, and to "portray the US invasion and occupation of Iraq not as an act of aggression – as most of the international community sees it – but as an act of self-defence. By extension, it seeks to portray those who oppose the ongoing US occupation as appeasers or even supporters of totalitarianism and violence." According to Zunes, the number of foreign insurgents fighting with an agenda even remotely resembling that described by President Bush above constitutes "well under 5 per cent of the armed resistance."

Ugh.

'Janie's Got A Gun'

This week's conservative song is "Janie's Got A Gun" by Aerosmith. About how the Second Amendment is the great equalizer, especially for women, this song tells us about an abused girl killing her father when no one would help her. (Note to liberals: give women guns and we won't have to worry about your unrealistic "incest/rape" pregnancies that aparently happen so much, requiring abortions). Here's the song:

Here're the lyrics:

Dum, dum, dum, honey what have you done?
Dum, dum, dum it's the sound of my gun.
Dum, dum, dum, honey what have you done?
Dum, dum, dum it's the sound

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her whole world's come undone
From lookin' straight at the sun
What did her daddy do?
What did he put you through?
They said when Janie was arrested they found him underneath a train
But man, he had it comin' Now that Janie's got a gun she ain't never gonna be the same.

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Tell me now it's untrue.
What did her daddy do?
He jacked a little bitty baby
The man has got to be insane
They say the spell that he was under the lightning and the thunder knew that someone had to stop the rain

Run away, run away from the pain yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Run away run away from the pain yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away, run away, run, run away

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
What did her daddy do?
It's Janie's last I.O.U.
She had to take him down easy and put a bullet in his brain
She said 'cause nobody believes me. The man was such a sleeze. He ain't never gonna be the same.

Run away, run away from the pain yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away run away from the pain yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away, run away, run, run away

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Everybody is on the run

Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Because Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Janie's got a gun

ANSWER Counter-Protest To Protect Memorial

An interesting story via the Political Pitbull:

On March 17, ANSWER, a liberal group, plans an anti-war protest at the Vietnam Wall Memorial. Seeing how peaceful they were at the Capitol, spray painting and damaging part of the building, some citizens are gathering, to protect the war memorial. They're calling it "The Gathering of Eagles", and they will be standing guard at the Vietnam Memorial, March 17.

Age of Hooper attended the press conference, at the National Press Club. Most of the "Eagles" are war veterans, who will be wearing arm bands to identify each other, and they have set up a website for the event. The attendance is expected to be in the thousands. If you can make it, even if you're not a veteran, by all means, please do attend.

This is a great idea on behalf of the "Eagles," but I wonder if it may only provoke some of the ANSWER nuts to desecrate the memorial as a sort of, in-your-face type move.

Brokeback Mountain - From The Point of View of The Horses

You know, I try not to post so many Family Guy clips. But some of these jokes are just so damn funny:

Beaver Sighting In NY Arrouses Scientists

The first beaver sighting in New York in 200 years leaves bloggers scrambling to make the best "beaver sighting" joke:

Beavers grace New York City's official seal. But the industrious rodents have not been seen in the flesh here for as many as 200 years — until this week.

Biologists videotaped a beaver swimming up the Bronx River on Wednesday. Its twig-and-mud lodge had been spotted earlier on the river bank, but the tape confirmed the presence of the animal itself.

"It had to happen because beaver populations are expanding, and their habitats are shrinking," said Dietland Muller-Schwarze, a beaver expert at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. "We're probably going to see more of them in the future."

Now that there's one beaver in New York, do you think they're going to try and call it endangered and make its home "protected?" I wouldn't put it past them. Also notice that even though their population is exploding while their habitat shrinks, the shrinking habitat is still seen as a negative. Maybe all along all the beavers needed to propagate was less space - it sort of makes them feel cozy.

Meanwhile, in other news there have still been no reports of any beaver sightings in San Francisco.

NASA's Contingency Plan

How would NASA deal with an unstable astronaut in space? Easy: Duct tape.

What would happen if an astronaut became mentally unstable in space and, say, destroyed the ship's oxygen system or tried to open the hatch and kill everyone aboard?

That was the question after the apparent breakdown of Lisa Nowak, arrested this month on charges she tried to kidnap and kill a woman she regarded as her rival for another astronaut's affections.

It turns out NASA has detailed, written procedures for dealing with a suicidal or psychotic astronaut in space. The documents, obtained this week by The Associated Press, say the astronaut's crewmates should bind his wrists and ankles with duct tape, tie him down with a bungee cord and inject him with tranquilizers if necessary.

"Talk with the patient while you are restraining him," the instructions say. "Explain what you are doing, and that you are using a restraint to ensure that he is safe."

The instructions do not spell out what happens after that. But NASA spokesman James Hartsfield said the space agency, a flight surgeon on the ground and the commander in space would decide on a case-by-case basis whether to abort the flight, in the case of the shuttle, or send the astronaut home, if the episode took place on the international space station.

Honestly I'm surprised, but in a good way. Here I thought that if NASA were to have some sort of contingency plan for a situation like this, it would involve some sort of restraint system that cost the US taxpayer tens of millions of dollars. But hey, if duct tape works, then use it.

Vilsack's Out! Wait. Vilsack Was In?

Wow. I honestly didn't even know he was "running."

Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack dropped out of the presidential race today, saying he was a victim of the high-dollar fundraising that increasingly dominates the nomination process.
He goes on to say a ton of BS about how no one's discussing the issues or something. I don't really care. Go back to Iowa where you belong.

Badass!

Hat tip to Ace of Spades HQ:

He did it all for the paycheck, of course.

He will be fondly remembered. Even better, he gets to do some of the remembering himself, because he followed Patton's rule:

As ANP forces chased the suspect, Coalition forces verbally instructed him to stop. When he did not, they engaged with small arms fire, hitting the bomber several times. A U.S. Soldier wrestled him to the ground, restraining him long enough to allow the crowd of people to move safely away. He was able to break free from the bomber prior to the explosion. He sustained only minor injuries from the blast.

Mercenaries. Is there anything they can't do?

Cirsumcision Reduces Risk Of Contracting HIV

Boy, wait for the Islamic world to get a hold of this story, they'll start claiming that AIDS is a Jewish conspiracy:

LONDON (AP) - Scientists say conclusive data shows there is no question circumcision reduces men's chances of catching HIV by up to 60 percent - a finding experts are hailing as a major breakthrough in the fight against AIDS. Now, the question is how to put that fact to work to combat AIDS across Africa.

The findings first were announced in December, when initial results from two major trials - in Kenya and Uganda - showed promising links between circumcision and HIV transmission. However, those trials were deemed so definitive that the tests were halted early.

The full data from the trials, carried out by the United States' National Institutes of Health, were published Friday in The Lancet.

"This is an extraordinary development," said Dr. Kevin de Cock, director of the World Health Organization's AIDS department. "Circumcision is the most potent intervention in HIV prevention that has been described."

Circumcision has long been suspected of reducing men's susceptibility to HIV infection because the cells in the foreskin of the penis are especially vulnerable to the virus.

A modeling study done last year projected that in the next decade, male circumcision could prevent 2 million AIDS infections and 300,000 deaths. Last year, 2.8 million people in sub-Saharan Africa became infected with HIV, and 2.1 million people died.

Being from the Lancet I sure hope it's not junk science. I guess we'll see.

Bad Apples To Rot In Prison

It's a well known fact that even the greatest group of people will have terrible people in it, no matter how small of a minority they are:

FT. CAMPBELL, Kentucky (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier who pleaded guilty to raping and murdering a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her family was sentenced to 100 years in a military prison, the U.S. Army said on Thursday.

Sgt. Paul Cortez, 24, was also given a dishonorable discharge. Another soldier who pleaded guilty in November was sentenced to 90 years in a military prison. Two other soldiers and a former soldier are awaiting trial for the crime.

These pricks got what they deserve. Will the libs now take this as an example of how the Army really does have the interests of the Iraqi people at heart, and see that the Army will not tolerate the few who slander the name of all good soldiers? No. They'll say this is some exception to the rule of the horrendous behavior of US soldiers.

Gitmo At 104

In honor of the anniversary of the US "[assuming] territorial control over Guantánamo Bay under the 1903 Cuban-American Treaty, which granted the United States a perpetual lease of the area," here's a video of Rep. Duncan Hunter describing how horrendously well the inmates at Gitmo are treated:

An historical note: "The current Cuban government rejects the Cuban-American Treaty on the grounds that it violates article 52 of the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, and therefore considers the U.S. presence in Guantánamo to be an illegal occupation of the area." Well that's funny Fidel. Why don't you go ahead and try and take it back. Just give us any reason to hang your sorry ass.

Further note: Leftist moonbats are clearly still editing at will over at Wikipedia, where you'll find this gem:

Recently, the base at Guantánamo Bay began hosting a detainment camp for suspected militant combatants collected (actions that are viewed by some as kidnapping) from both Afghanistan and Iraq, or from secret NATO prisons in Europe (discovered recently, in 2006).

'Putin's Just A Mafioso Seeking To diminish Us'

An excellent article by Krauthammer on what a thug Putin is evolving into. Some of his rhetoric is even starting to sound like Ahmadinejad's.

Daytona 500 and a Racist Dog

"NASCAR's boring and for backward hicks and all the cars ever do is go around in circles and you can't even tell they're going fast and blah, blah, blah ..."

Okay. And here's a clip form the last lap of the Daytona 500 last Sunday:

That clip is ridiculously close to the final race in Talladega Nights.

And while I'm posting a video, here's Brian channelling his father (I'd skip to 0:30 if'n I was you):

House Of Bottled Human Waste

Umm ... gross:

A Long Island woman found living in squalor with her three children was under investigation Thursday after a neighbor made a call to the children's father last week, worried about the children's well-being. That's because inside the home police were stunned to find hundreds of bottles of urine, feces, soiled clothes, a dead cat, piles of garbage and used toilet tissue scattered everywhere.

It was the same scene of filth that greeted 42-year-old Raymond Young Jr., the children's estranged father, who is now fighting for custody of his three daughters that he says he hasn't seen in six years.

"Urine in bottles, no plumbing, no toilet," Young told CBS 2. "There was just feces all over, [it's the] most horrible situation you could ever imagine.

Liberman May Switch Parties

Is Joe Lieberman finally going to jump ship and join to Republicans? It's a "remote possibility."

"Independent" Sen. Joe Liebeman [sic] receives a mini-profile titled "What Joe Wants," a key question since he is "the Senate's one-man tipping point." Republicans, the magazine says, are "courting him" and Lieberman "has been indulging in some fairly immodest political footsie."

Lieberman calls jumping to the Republican side, and tilting the Senate, "a remote possibility," which means there's at least a chance of that. Time seems to push Lieberman in this direction, as the article concludes: "Lieberman's GOP flirtation has its risks--and a time limit....The longer he waits to capitalize on his moment, the greater the danger that he'll be tagged as one of those politicians for whom having power is more important than using it."

Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin claims that his side still "counts on him as a friend" even though it is "a little painful and awkward."

Last month, after Lieberman told Democratic chief Sen. Harry Reid that he had "stopped attending the weekly Democratic lunch because he didn't feel comfortable discussing Iraq there, Reid offered to hold those discussions at another time," Time's Massimo Calabresi reveals. "Lieberman has started attending again." But Lieberman also keeps in touch with Bush aide Stephen Hadley "every week or two."
Meanwhile, Hot Air adds this bit of info from Politico:

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut told the Politico Thursday that he has no immediate plans to switch parties, but suggested Democratic opposition to funding the war in Iraq might change his mind…

He suggested, however, that the forthcoming showdown over new funding could be a deciding factor that would lure him to the Republican Party.

“I hope we don’t get to that point,” Lieberman said. “That’s about all I will say on it today. That would hurt.”

It's too bad I'd rather a funded war than a split Senate, but it's good to know that if the Democrats ever get the balls to go through with their real goal of cutting off funding, they may pay the price with control.

Chlorine Car Bombs In Production

Sounds like the chlorine car-bomb craze is catching on amongst terrorists in Iraq:

BAGHDAD, Feb. 22 — American troops on a raid near Falluja discovered three car bombs under construction in a bomb-making factory that appeared intended to be used with chemicals, the chief American military spokesman in Baghdad said today.

Five of the buildings raided by American forces were packed with munitions and chemicals, he said.

The discovery follows three gas attacks in the past month in which insurgents used truck bombs to deploy chlorine, a greenish gas that burns the skin and can be fatal after just a few deep breaths. The latest such bombing on Wednesday in southern Baghdad killed at least two people and wounded 32 others, many exhibiting symptoms of chlorine exposure.

The spokesman, Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, described the materials found in the raid as 65 propane tanks and ordinary chemicals, but he did not say any chlorine gas was found. He said the troops found “five complete buildings full of these various types of things to include car bombs that were being assembled and put together with propane tanks.
And liberals just can't get it into their pee-sized brains that if we cut-and-run out of Iraq, it won't be long before blood-thirsty terrorists come over here and start setting these bombs off in our streets. This is scaremongering, it's reality and common sense. Iraq is a target-rich environment full of American troops, and yes it has acted like a magnet for terrorist the world over - but that's a good thing. By smoking them out of their various homes and bringing them all to fight in one theater we increase our chances of victory.

As soon as we go back to pre-9/11 days when all of the Americans that you wanted to kill were here in America - well that's right where the terrorists are going to go, just like they did on 9/11.

Chimps Use Spears To Kill Bushbabies

Wow. Who would have thought that liberal scientists would have been able to spin a finding like this into a feminist revision of the far-distant history:

Chimpanzees are capable of making spears to hunt other primates and have been seen using the weapons to apparently kill bushbabies for meat, scientists announced today.

The researchers based their findings on observations of omnivorous chimpanzees that dwell in savannahs similar to those from which humanity's ancestors are thought to have emerged.

"It is not adult males, but young chimpanzees, including adolescent females, who are exhibiting this behavior," Jill Pruetz, a primatologist at Iowa State University, told LiveScience.

"This has important implications for how we think about the evolution of tool use in our own species," Pruetz added. "We have tended to emphasize the role of adult males in hunting, and this research supports the assertion that we should not ignore females and other individuals."
Hell. They can't even give humans any credit for advancing Chimp civilization:
Earlier this month, scientists reported that chimpanzees used stone tools as early as 4,300 years ago, suggesting that they learned to make and use the tools on their own, rather than copying humans.
The left is going to have trouble with this issue because in one way, it appeals to their nature of loving when things with "Bush" in their name are being killed. On the other hand, they would be outraged if they found humans who killed bushbabies with spears, and since they think of humans as nothing but glorified apes, they really ought to hold Chimps to the same standard.

Iran Continues To Enrich Uranium

Iran is continuing to barrel ahead in its nuclear power/arms program, despite a toothless threat from the UN's IAEA. Let's pray that the UN actually enforces this "deadline" unlike so many others - however the smart money is on this being yet another problem the the US will have to face virtually alone.

VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran failed to suspend uranium enrichment activity by February 21, ignoring a U.N. Security Council deadline to halt work the West fears could give Tehran an atomic weapon, the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog said on Thursday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency also said in a report that Iran had installed two cascades, or networks, of 164 centrifuges in its underground Natanz enrichment plant with another two cascades close to completion.

This represented efforts to expand research-level enrichment of nuclear fuel into “industrial scale” production.

It said Iranian workers lowered into the plant an 8.7-ton container of uranium hexafluoride gas (UF-6) to prepare to start feeding centrifuges, which can enrich the material into fuel for power plants or, if refined to high levels, for bombs.

Iran’s defiance of a 60-day deadline set by the Council when it banned nuclear technology transfers to Iran on December 23 will expose Iran to wider sanctions over its atomic energy program, which the West fears is a front for assembling atom bombs.

Good News Out of Iraq

Good summary of the positive things going on in Iraq over at Flopping Aces.

Denmark To Leave Iraq

First Britain, now Denmark. The coalition is hardly crumbling though, as the left would have you believe (you know, the same left that told you there was no coalition). Brtain feels that its presence is no longer necesary in Iraq, the area that they're policing having made so much prgress, and Denmark's mandate is up:

Denmark will withdraw its troops from Iraq by August, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said.

The troops, numbering about 460, will be replaced by a unit of nine soldiers manning four observational helicopters, he said.

It comes as Tony Blair announced a timetable for reducing British troop numbers in Iraq from 7,100 to 5,500.

Most Danish troops are based in the southern city of Basra, where they operate under British command.

The mandate for Danish troops to serve in Iraq is due to expire in June.

Girl Has No Right To Full-Face Veil In Class

Score one for civilized society in Britain:

A 12-year-old schoolgirl has failed in an attempted legal challenge to her school's ban on a full-face veil.

Mr Justice Silber had been told that the girl's three older sisters had attended the same school and had worn the niqab with no problems.

But the school, in Buckinghamshire, had told the girl it was not acceptable because teachers believed it would make communication and learning difficult.

The judge has now rejected her lawyers' arguments for a judicial review.

They said after the judgment that the family were "bitterly disappointed".

They are considering making an appeal, but would have to make a separate application for this as the judge refused them permission to do so.

For legal reasons the girl and the school have not been identified publicly.
Gee. I don't see how completely covering your face and body could be an impediment to learning and proper communication between student and teacher, do you?

Edwards Doesn't Apologize

The third Democrat in so many days to completely eat his words regarding the affairs of the Middle East and the War on Terror:

WASHINGTON John Edwards' presidential campaign wants to make it clear that he doesn't consider Israel a threat to world peace.

A spokesman for the 2008 Democratic candidate issued a statement today denying such a report on Variety.com.

Columnist Peter Bart reports that Edwards told a Hollywood fundraiser last month that the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran's nuclear facilities is perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace.

Edwards' spokesman Jonathan Prince says the article is erroneous. He says Edwards says one of the greatest short-term threats to world peace is Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Iran To Have Women-Only Island

From Hot Air:

I’ve seen movies based on this concept. Ahmadinejad wouldn’t dig them.

Or, you know, maybe he’d dig them a lot. Terrorists are nothing if not unpredictable.

Here’s the logical outcome of Islamists trying to reconcile their chastity-belt misogyny with the concept of sun, surf, and fun:

Iran is seeking to create a paradise for female tourists by turning an island on a northwestern lake into male-free zone, the press reported on Wednesday.

All public transport, restaurants and facilities on the island — on the gigantic Oroumiyeh lake close to the Turkish border — will be staffed only by women, officials said…

Iran’s Islamic codes strictly prohibit exposure of unveiled women to men.

Iran has already partitioned parts of its southern and northern beaches as women-only zones where women can legally remove their headscarves and overcoats in freedom.

In some cities, there are also special “women parks”.

Exit question: Isn’t there another, more efficient solution to this “problem”?

Boy. I bet women in America wish that we were respectable enough to ban them to special islands.

Poll Finds Americans Don't Support Pulling Out Of Iraq

So, here are some interesting poll results:

In the wake of the U.S. House of Representatives passing a resolution that amounts to a vote of no confidence in the Bush administration's policies in Iraq, a new national survey by Alexandria, VA-based Public Opinion Strategies (POS) shows the American people may have some different ideas from their elected leaders on this issue.

The survey was conducted nationwide February 5-7 among a bi-partisan, cross-section of 800 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent. The survey was commissioned by The Moriah Group, a Chattanooga-based strategic communications and public affairs firm.

The survey shows Americans want to win in Iraq, and that they understand Iraq is the central point in the war against terrorism and they can support a U.S. strategy aimed at achieving victory, said Neil Newhouse, a partner in POS. The idea of pulling back from Iraq is not where the majority of Americans are.

  • By a 53 percent - 46 percent margin, respondents surveyed said that Democrats are going too far, too fast in pressing the President to withdraw troops from Iraq.
  • By identical 57 percent - 41 percent margins, voters agreed with these statements: I support finishing the job in Iraq, that is, keeping the troops there until the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security and the Iraqi war is a key part of the global war on terrorism.
  • Also, by a 56 percent - 43 percent margin, voters agreed that even if they have concerns about his war policies, Americans should stand behind the President in Iraq because we are at war.
  • While the survey shows voters believe (60 percent- 34 percent) that Iraq will never become a stable democracy, they still disagree that victory in Iraq (creating a young, but stable democracy and reducing the threat of terrorism at home) is no longer possible. Fifty-three percent say it's still possible, while 43 percent disagree.
  • By a wide 74 percent - 25 percent margin, voters disagree with the notion that "I don't really care what happens in Iraq after the U.S. leaves, I just want the troops brought home."
  • When asked which statement best describes their position on the Iraq War, voters are evenly divided (50 percent - 49 percent) between positions of "doing whatever it takes to restore order until the Iraqis can govern and provide security to their country," and positions that call for immediate withdrawal or a strict timetable.
  • 27 percent said "the Iraq war is the front line in the battle against terrorism and our troops should stay there and do whatever it takes to restore order until the Iraqis can govern and provide security to their country."
  • 23 percent said "while I don't agree that the U.S. should be in the war, our troops should stay there and do whatever it takes to restore order until the Iraqis can govern and provide security to their country."
  • 32 percent said "whether Iraq is stable or not, the U.S. should set and hold to a strict timetable for withdrawing troops."
  • 17 percent said "the U.S. should immediately withdraw its troops from Iraq."

The survey also found that voters thought it would hurt American prestige more to pull out of Iraq immediately (59 percent) than it would to stay there for the long term (35 percent). Public Opinion Strategies "scored the best win-loss record among the major polling and media firms in the 2004 election" and was named Pollster of the Year in 2002.

Good to know that the Dems have no mandate. Not that this will change there behavior. Hat tip to wizbang!

Britains' Pullout Good?

Here's a spin on Britains' pullout that I never would have thought of. Who knows, maybe it's true:

British Prime Minister Tony Blair's announcement that British troops will begin withdrawing from Iraq would appear to be bad news for the Bush administration.

Blair said today that Britain will cut its forces in Iraq to 5,500 by summer, down from 7,100 currently. And additional cuts to as few as 5,000 British troops in Iraq are possible by the end of summer, Blair said.

But in an exclusive interview with ABC News, Vice President Dick Cheney said the move was actually good news and a sign of progress in Iraq.

"Well, I look at it and see it is actually an affirmation that there are parts of Iraq where things are going pretty well," Cheney told ABC News' Jonathan Karl.

"In fact, I talked to a friend just the other day who had driven to Baghdad down to Basra, seven hours, found the situation dramatically improved from a year or so ago, sort of validated the British view they had made progress in southern Iraq and that they can therefore reduce their force levels," Cheney said.

The Effectiveness Of Catch and Release

A surprisingly open story from the NYT, with a quote that shows the effectiveness of catch and release programs. After the US government began catch and release due to lack of facilities to house illegals:

[Illegals] would cross the river in droves in broad daylight, run up to Border Patrol agents and line up to be arrested, knowing they would be released and could then continue on their journey. More than 200 a day were arrested in Eagle Pass alone.
Charming. Hat tip to O'Riley.

By the way, don't bother reading the article. Their constant use of the word "migrant" instead of, say, "illegal," will make you sick.

Giant Hornets Sent To France By God

Nature provides perfect analogy for France's troubles with Muslim immigrants:

Swarms of giant hornets renowned for their vicious stings and skill at massacring honeybees have settled in France.

And there are now so many of the insects that entomologists fear it will just be a matter of time before they cross to Britain.

A hornet, Asian hornet spreads to France
A hornets nest

Global warming has largely been blamed for the survival and spread of the Asian Hornet, Vespa velutina, which is thought to have arrived in France from the Far East in a consignment of Chinese pottery in late 2004.

Thousands of football-shaped hornet nests are now dotted all over the forests of Aquitaine, the south-western region of France hugely popular with British tourists.

"Their spread across French territory has been like lightning," said Jean Haxaire, the entomologist who originally identified the new arrival.

He said he had recently seen 85 nests in the 40-odd miles which separate the towns of Marmande and Podensac, in the Lot et Garonne department where the hornets were first spotted.

Wow. Now Global Warming even causes giant hornets. Is there anything it can't do?

Illegal Immigration Slows As Border Cracks Down

Good news on the border:

All along the U.S.-Mexican border, there are signs that the measures that the U.S. Border Patrol and other agencies have taken over the past year, from erecting new barriers to posting 6,000 National Guardsmen as armed sentinels, are beginning to slow the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.

For 10 years, Eduardo Valenzuela has been crossing the Mexican border near Yuma, Arizona, illegally, trekking over desert scrub and hopping on a freight train to get to his job with a construction company in Phoenix, Arizona.

But on a recent afternoon, Valenzuela and four travel companions from his hometown of Los Mochis plopped down on a bench in a park in the border town of San Luis Río Colorado, exhausted and dispirited. Border patrol agents had caught them two times over three days, hounding them with helicopters and four-wheel-drive trucks.

"It's become much more difficult," Valenzuela said, echoing the comments of dozens of other migrants.

The only barometer to gauge whether migrants are being discouraged to attempt entering the United States is how many migrants are caught. In the past four months, the number has dropped 27 percent compared with the same period last year. In two sections around Yuma and near Del Rio, Texas, the numbers have fallen by nearly two- thirds, officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security say.

Gee. Who would have thought that building barriers and adding personnel would slow the flow of illegal immigration. Still, I think this story ought to be taken in a "that's good progress, now we've got a long way to go down that track" kind of story, and not a "our work is done here" kind of story, which the media no-doubt wants it to be.

President of Gambia Cures AIDS

Congratulations to the President of Gambia for going insane and convincing his own people to let themselves die:

From the pockets of his billowing white robe, Gambia's president pulls out a plastic container, closes his eyes in prayer and rubs a green herbal paste into the ribcage of his patient.

He then orders the thin man to swallow a bitter yellow drink, followed by two bananas.

"Whatever you do there are bound to be skeptics, but I can tell you my method is foolproof," Yahya Jammeh says, surrounded by his bodyguards inside his presidential compound as he prepares to treat more patients.

"Mine is not an argument, mine is a proof. It's a declaration. I can cure AIDS and I will."

In a continent suffering from the world's worst AIDS epidemic, claims of miracle cures like those of Jammeh are alarming public health workers already struggling against the corrosive effect of faith-healers dispensing herbal remedies from thatched huts.

The biggest concern to experts is that Jammeh requires his patients to cease their anti-retroviral drugs, a dangerous move since doing so can weaken the body's immune system, making the patient prone to infection, said Dr. Antonio Filipe Jr., the local head of the World Health Organization in neighboring Senegal.

Since January, when he announced his cure to a gathering of foreign diplomats, Jammeh has thrown the bureaucratic machinery of his small West African country behind his claim of a cure.

First Iran, then Gambia. Who's going to cure AIDS next?

Britain - Pulling Out For Harry?

Interesting:

Britain's official policy on Iraq is that its troops will leave as soon as they can hand control over to Iraqis. But there is one particular soldier who, according to a crescendo of British newspaper reports, does not seem quite so replaceable.

Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne and second son of Prince Charles, is an army officer, reportedly with a hankering to be treated as just another soldier in line for rotation in southern Iraq.

The Ministry of Defense has dismissed the idea as speculation, but newspapers have already started speculating on a different tack — not so much about whether he will be deployed in Iraq as about his security if he does go. He would, one report said, be a "bullet magnet" in an area where British troops confront what the authorities here call Iranian-backed Shiite insurgents.

Of course, they don't explicitly state it, but I'm assuming that they're saying Britain is pulling out of Iraq to protect the Prince, which to me, is bullshit. Like there aren't other strings that Harry's father could have pulled rather than convincing Tony Blair to leave Iraq entirely. Yeah. Bullshit.

Zilla Huma Usman, RIP

Radical Islam strikes again, taking the life of a woman who refused to kowtow to their misogynistic BS that they pass off as religion:

A Pakistani minister and woman’s activist has been shot dead by an Islamic extremist for refusing to wear the veil.

Zilla Huma Usman, the minister for social welfare in Punjab province and an ally of President Pervez Musharraf, was killed as she was about to deliver a speech to dozens of party activists, by a “fanatic”, who believed that she was dressed inappropriately and that women should not be involved in politics, officials said.

Mrs Usman, 35, was wearing the shalwar kameez worn by many professional women in Pakistan, but did not cover her head.

The attack happened in Gujranwala, 120 miles southeast of Islamabad, where the minister’s office is based. As Ms Usman, 35, stepped out of her car – where she was greeted by her co-workers throwing rose petals - the attacker pulled out a pistol and fired a single shot at close range, hitting her in the head. She was airlifted to hospital in the provincial capital Lahore, but died soon afterwards.

I'm hoping "fanatic" is in quotes because they think terrorist is more appropriate, but maybe they don't think he's really a fanatic, just your run-of-the-mill Islamic male.

Israel Condemned For Self Preservation - Nothing New

Isn't it nice to see a mainstream media story that's sympathetic toward Israel? Too bad I can never find any:

Lebanon's military says it has fired anti-aircraft rounds against Israeli jet fighters violating its airspace.

The aircraft were flying at low altitude over southern Lebanon, but none appear to have been hit.

It is reported to be the first time the Lebanese military has fired at the Israeli aircraft, which make regular sorties over southern Lebanon.

Beirut and the United Nations say the flights violate a ceasefire agreement sanctioned by the UN Security Council.

Israel says the sorties are to make sure that weapons are not being smuggled into southern Lebanon to re-supply Hezbollah militants.

The UN says the flights undermine the efforts of its peacekeepers to maintain stability in the area.

Hezbollah and Israel fought a 34-day conflict in 2006, in which Israeli air power caused massive destruction to south Lebanon. Fighting ended in August under the terms of the UN ceasefire resolution.
The UN continues its anti-Israel BS and this article reports the UN's view unquestioningly. Maybe if the UN ever did anything right and would take care of business in S. Lebanon, making sure Hezbollah wasn't rearming, then Israel wouldn't have to check.

New Assault Weapons Ban Before The House Judiciary Committee

A new bill, HR 1022, the "Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007," is set to go before the House Judiciary Committee. It's sponsor is Rep. Carolyn McCarthy [D-NY]. Some highlights of the bill include:

  • Instead of banning rifles with 2 evil features, it’s one evil feature. Said evil features are:

    `(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

    `(ii) a threaded barrel;

    `(iii) a pistol grip;

    `(iv) a forward grip; or

    `(v) a barrel shroud.

  • Expands the list of rifles banned specifically by name.
  • Bans possession of conversion kits (example, you couldn’t own a rifle and a bayonet lug even if the two weren’t attached).
  • Transfer of grandfathered weapons would have to go through a FFL.
  • Bans transfers of grandfathered semi-automatics with regular capacity magazines.
  • This bill is particularly ugly, folks.

Update: Seems the ban on transfer provision is there to prevent people like my from going out and stocking up on evil black rifles. This happened quite extensively prior to passage of the 1994 ban. Manufacturers cranked out weapons that look like assault weapons and regular capacity magazines in droves. People bought them up and some turned a profit. I personally sold an Oly Arms AR for $1,300 after spending $700 on it two months before.

Update 2: Make sure you write or call your Congressmonkeies and tell them oppose this bill.

Yet another bill that aims to protect law enforcement, how? By banning certain guns based on their aesthetic features? Shows you how much liberals know about guns.

    **Update, 5:55pm***

Here's my letter to my Congressman, if you want/need to steal ideas:
    Representative Upton,

I would be lying if I said you didn't let me down in your recent vote to condemn the administrations planned "troop surge" in Iraq. But that is behind us now, and I'm am writing you in concern to a completely different issue.

From what I've been told, H.R. 1022, "the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007," is now before the House Judiciary Committee. I beg you to do everything in your power to defeat this bill.

This is classic liberal scaremongering; nothing good will come out of banning guns based solely on their aesthetic qualities. I would remind you that Michigan is state where we understand our rights and have a particular affinity with the Second Amendment. Every American has the right to bear arms, no matter if those arms have a "pistol grip," a "barrel shroud," a "forward grip," or any other merely aesthetic feature.

Once again, I'm urging you not to be part of this liberal assault on the rights of Americans. We need every conservative member of Congress to stand up and show that they won't break under the pressure of liberal scaremongering. Please, do what is right and fight to defeat H.R. 1022.
And even though I linked to it up there in the block quote, here's where you can contact your Congressman electronically (here for snail mail, or by phone).

    Britain To Cut and Run

    Bad news out of Britain:

Tony Blair is expected to announce a timetable for the withdrawal of UK troops from Iraq.

The prime minister is due to make an announcement in the House of Commons on Wednesday in which he is expected clarify the details.

Mr Blair is expected to say hundreds of troops will return from Basra within weeks with more to follow later.

Some 7,000 UK troops are currently serving in Iraq and about 1,500 are expected to return within weeks.

And who's going to have to replace those 7000 troops? The US. But under these circumstance would the Congress still condemn adding more troops? Of course they would. They have no desire to win this war, and now Tony Blair is letting his want of a positive legacy put further US lives in danger.

Court Rejects Philip Morris' $79 Million Penalty

Bad news for all of the morons out there that think they should be paid for there own stupid decisions:

WASHINGTON -- Altria Group Inc.'s Philip Morris USA unit Tuesday won a U.S. Supreme Court challenge to a $79.5 million punitive-damages award made by an Oregon jury.

The high court voted 5-4 to overturn the jury verdict, ruling it violated earlier high court decisions on limits to punitive damages. The decision could further curb the size of product liability awards against companies beyond new limits the high court outlined in its 2003 State Farm ruling.

Good news however for those of us participating in the free market who don't want to pay higher prices because of people who were unable to notice that smoking made them cough up blood.

    Your Son Is A Murderer

I think with this war going on and all, the media sometimes gets nostalgic for the good ol' days when they would scare you with any given "epidemic" that was "sweeping the nation" at least once a week. There were killer bees, El Nino, West Nile Virus, Asbestos, Blah blah blah.

Anyway. If you're a middle-class suburban parent, look out. Your children are most likely murderers:

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (CNN) -- All Nathan Moore says he wanted to do was smoke pot and get drunk with his friends. [ed - a common lament]

Killing Rex Baum was never part of the plan that day in 2004.

"It all started off as a game," Moore said.

The 15-year-old and his friends were taunting the homeless man -- throwing sticks and leaves -- after having a couple of beers with him.

No big deal, Moore says, but he's sorry for what came next.

It was a mistake, he said, a sudden primal surge that made him and his friends Luis Oyola, 16, and 17-year-old Andrew Ihrcke begin punching and kicking Baum.

"Luis says 'I'm gonna go hit him,' We're all laughing, thought he was joking around,'" but he wasn't, Moore concedes. "We just all started hitting him."

They hurled anything they could find -- rocks, bricks, even Baum's barbecue grill -- and pounded the 49-year-old with a pipe and with the baseball bat he kept at his campsite for protection.

Ihrcke smeared his own feces on Baum's face before cutting him with a knife "to see if he was alive," Moore said.

After destroying Baum's camp, the boys left the homeless man -- head wedged in his own grill -- under a piece of plastic where they hoped the "animals would eat" him.

Then, Moore says, they took off to grab a bite at McDonald's.

Baum's murder was indicative of a disturbing trend.

A National Coalition for the Homeless report says last year, there were 122 attacks and 20 murders against the homeless, the most attacks in nearly a decade. (Coalition report on 2006 homeless attacks)

Police found Baum's body two days after the teens attacked him.

They bragged about it around town. Police picked them up and they described what happened.

Ihrcke told police that killing "the bum" reminded him of playing a violent video game, a police report shows.

All three teens pleaded no contest to first degree reckless homicide charges and went to prison.

Moore recently turned 18 at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, where he is serving a 15 year sentence.

"When [the beating] stops, you say, 'What did we just do?'" he told CNN. "There's no rational explanation."
Well, we could attribute this to the fact that these were delinquent, evil and irrational human beings who killed a homeless man, but the media was able to plant somewhat subconsciously the real explanation: violent video games.

I never got why libs will support any and all morally depraved activity, especially if it involves children, but they're so quick to blame violent video games for all of society's ills. Maybe they realize that pretty soon people are going to notice the link between their secular progressive society and other forms of moral depravity and catch the link. Maybe video games are a purposeful scapegoat. Maybe not.

    Chemical Weapons In Baghdad

The media tries not to sound too gleeful that there's a reemergence of violence in Baghdad, but they fail:

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A bomb destroyed a truck carrying chlorine north of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least five people and spewing out toxic fumes that left nearly 140 others sick, Iraqi police said.

In Baghdad, a suicide bomber and two car bombs killed at least 17 on Tuesday and police said 20 unidentified bodies were found on Monday, a spike in the daily death toll after a marked reduction since the start of a U.S.-backed security crackdown aimed at restoring order to the Iraqi capital.

It was not immediately clear if the chlorine truck blast was caused by a roadside bomb that hit the truck or if the vehicle itself was rigged with explosives as a makeshift chemical gas bomb.

One source at police headquarters said the truck was rigged with explosives, suggesting it was a "dirty bomb" employing a readily available substance used to purify water. A second police source also said the bomb was on the truck.

The bomb exploded near a restaurant at a rest stop on the main highway in Taji, 20 km (12 miles) north of Baghdad.

Twisted metal and debris littered the ground in front of a tire repair shop after the blast, which sent out toxic fumes that caused scores of people to be taken to hospital.

Police said at least five people were killed and the total number of hurt including those sickened by the chlorine as well as those hit by the explosion was 139. Many women and children were among them.
We have to be careful in our reaction here. I'd hate for the libs to start screaming about us imposing on the Iraqis right to a clean, safe pool.

    Episcopalians Talk Sense To Anglicans

    I'm surprised:

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Anglican leaders demanded Monday that the U.S. Episcopal Church unequivocally bar official prayers for gay couples and the consecration of more gay bishops to undo the damage that North Americans have caused the Anglican family.

In a statement ending a tense six-day meeting, the leaders said that past pledges by Episcopalians for a moratorium on gay unions and consecrations have been so ambiguous that they have failed to fully mend "broken relationships" in the 77 million-member Anglican Communion.

The Episcopal Church, the U.S. wing of world Anglicanism, must clarify its position by Sept. 30 or its relations with other Anglicans will remain "damaged at best."

"This has consequences for the full participation of the church in the life of the communion," the leaders said.

The meeting in Tanzania was the latest of several attempts to keep Anglicans unified despite deep rifts over how they should interpret the Bible. The long-simmering debate erupted in 2003 when Episcopalians consecrated the first openly gay bishop, V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire.

Anglican traditionalists believe gay relationships violate Scripture and they have demanded that the U.S. church adhere to that teaching or face discipline.

    JFK Pre-Assassination Video

There's a new pre-assassination video of JFK riding in his motorcade in Dallas, moments before he was shot. Some would say, who cares about a 40 second video, of which only about 7 seconds show the President? I'm one of those, however there was an important detail hidden in the video:

The president's coat is clearly if briefly seen bunched up on his back -- a detail that will be scrutinized by conspiracy theorists who see evidence of a plot in, among other things, the fact the bullet wounds on his jacket and body did not appear to match.
I was never one to get into the whole JFK assassination-fascination, so any blow to idiot conspiracy theorists is a win in my book.

    Here's the video:

    Peters On The Non-Binding Resolution

PROVIDING aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime is treason. It's not "just politics." It's treason.

And signaling our enemies that Congress wants them to win isn't "supporting our troops."

The "nonbinding resolution" telling the world that we intend to surrender to terrorism and abandon Iraq may be the most disgraceful congressional action since the Democratic Party united to defend slavery.

The vote was a huge morale booster for al Qaeda, for Iraq's Sunni insurgents, and for the worst of the Shia militias.

The message Congress just sent to them all was, "Hold on, we'll stop the surge, we're going to leave - and you can slaughter the innocent with our blessing."

We've reached a low point in the history of our government when a substantial number of legislators would welcome an American defeat in Iraq for domestic political advantage.

Go on. Read the whole thing.

    Ban State Flags, Too!

Ann Althouse on Hillary's bizarre argument against the Confederate Battle Flag:

    Speaking yesterday:
"I think about how many South Carolinians have served in our military and who are serving today under our flag and I believe that we should have one flag that we all pay honor to, as I know that most people in South Carolina do every single day"...
Huh? That would be an argument against all state flags!

It seems she's trying so hard to say just the right thing and please everyone that she ends up saying something weird.
More stupid than weird, but I get your point.

Ban The Cows, We'll Get The Trees Later

First they came for your SUVs. Then your light bulbs. What's next? Beef:

As Congress begins to tackle the causes and cures of global warming, the action focuses on gas-guzzling vehicles and coal-fired power plants, not on lowly bovines.

Yet livestock are a major emitter of greenhouse gases that cause climate change. And as meat becomes a growing mainstay of human diet around the world, changing what we eat may prove as hard as changing what we drive.

It's not just the well-known and frequently joked-about flatulence and manure of grass-chewing cattle that's the problem, according to a recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Land-use changes, especially deforestation to expand pastures and to create arable land for feed crops, is a big part. So is the use of energy to produce fertilizers, to run the slaughterhouses and meat-processing plants, and to pump water.

"Livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today's most serious environmental problems," Henning Steinfeld, senior author of the report, said when the FAO findings were released in November.

Livestock are responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse-gas emissions as measured in carbon dioxide equivalent, reports the FAO. This includes 9 percent of all CO2 emissions, 37 percent of methane, and 65 percent of nitrous oxide. Altogether, that's more than the emissions caused by transportation.

The latter two gases are particularly troubling – even though they represent far smaller concentrations in atmosphere than CO2, which remains the main global warming culprit. But methane has 23 times the global warming potential (GWP) of CO2 and nitrous oxide has 296 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide.

Now, before any of you vegetarians get all high-and-mighty (oh, too late. You all already think your better than us heathen meat-eaters) let's not forget that trees (and presumably other vegetation) are also a leading contributor to global warming:

Do trees pollute? In the early 1980s, then-president Ronald Reagan and some noted scientists attracted attention when they confirmed that trees themselves are a possible source of some types of air pollution. Trees do contribute to the formation of ozone by releasing VOCs such as isoprene, monoterpene, and alpha-pinene.

Under Title 1 of the federal Clean Air Act, states are required to estimate how much trees and plants contribute to VOC production for those areas that exceed ozone standards. The sources of these VOCs, known collectively as "biogenics," include forests, crops, lawn grasses, and other vegetation. The more vegetation an area has, the more these biogenics will contribute to overall VOC levels. For example, biogenics are estimated to account for 22 percent of all VOCs emitted in the woody Houston-Galveston area, but only 12 percent in the arid El Paso area. Nationally, the EPA estimates that biogenics and other natural sources actually produce more emissions of VOCs than do anthropogenic sources. Of course, biogenic sources are natural sources of air pollution, and cutting down trees to reduce pollution would be counterproductive: the air quality benefits of biogenics far outweigh the costs, since plants produce oxygen, filter the air, and prevent erosion. Biogenic sources are not figured into the calculation of how much an area must reduce VOC emissions.

So remember: after they come for our beef, your lettuce is next.

Detainees Not Covered By US Constitution

What's this? A Court of Appeals decision that makes sense?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Guantanamo Bay detainees may not challenge their detention in U.S. courts, a federal appeals court said Tuesday in a ruling upholding a key provision of a law at the center of President Bush's anti- terrorism plan.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled 2-1 that civilian courts no longer have the authority to consider whether the military is illegally holding foreigners.

Barring detainees from the U.S. court system was a key provision in the Military Commissions Act, which Bush pushed through Congress last year to set up a system to prosecute terrorism suspects.

The ruling is all but certain to be appealed to the Supreme Court, which last year struck down the Bush administration's original plan for trying detainees before military commissions.

The Military Commissions Act was crafted in response to that decision and the president hailed it as a necessary tool for bringing terror suspects to justice.

Civil libertarians and leading Democrats decried the law as unconstitutional and a violation of American values. The law allows the government to indefinitely detain foreigners who have been designed as "enemy combatants" and authorizes the CIA to use aggressive but undefined interrogation tactics.

But the most criticized provision of the law was the one stripping U.S. courts of the authority to hear arguments from detainees who said they were being held illegally.

Attorneys argued that the detainees aren't covered by that provision and that the law is unconstitutional.

"The arguments are creative but not cogent. To accept them would be to defy the will of Congress," Judge A. Raymond Randolph wrote.

U.S. citizens and foreigners being held inside the country normally have the right to contest their detention before a judge. The Justice Department said foreign enemy combatants are not protected by the Constitution.

Randolph and Judge David B. Sentelle ordered that the hundreds of cases pending in the lower courts be dismissed.

Judge Judith W. Rogers dissented, saying the cases should proceed.

"District courts are well able to adjust these proceedings in light of the government's significant interests in guarding national security," Rogers wrote.
It's about time. We'll have to see what that oh-so conservative court that Bush "stacked with neocons" has to say about this later on, I guess.

Burka - Not Just For Opressing Women!

Gee. Other than the fact that its a symbol of Islam's misogynistic oppression, there's no other good reason to ban burkas, are there?

This is the moment one of the 21/7 suspects fled London dressed as a woman in a burka.

A jury was today shown CCTV footage of 26-year-old Yassin Omar covered from head to toe - with a handbag draped over his left arm.

    [Update, 7:06 pm Video:]

At 6ft 2in, Omar stood out in the crowded street as he was filmed walking along the pavement towards Golders Green Bus station. Commuters can be seen turning round to watch him as he passes.

It was 22 July, 2005, the day after he and five others are accused of trying to cause carnage with rucksack bombs on London's transport system two weeks after the 7/7 attacks. A series of different cameras followed his movements across a busy road and into the station to catch a National Express coach to Birmingham at 6.21pm.

Today the trial judge at Woolwich crown court, Mr Justice Fulford, asked Omar's barrister Peter Carter: "Is it accepted it is your client?' Mr Carter replied: "Yes."

Prosecutor Max Hill told jurors: "The handbag is over the left arm of Mr Omar. On walking over the crossing toward the coach stop, Omar appears to stop at the coach stop.

"A National Express coach pulls up, passengers embark, the bus moves off just after 6.20pm departing for Digbeth coach station in Birmingham." CCTV again picks up Omar arriving at Digbeth at 9.15pm.

He waits at the station for a Nissan Sunny to arrive at about 9.57pm and leaves with others at around 10.10pm.

Just wait until his terrorist buddies find out he's a cross-dresser. I hear that kind of thing's a no-go with those people.

Al Gore and GW on Bin Laden

Hat tip to the Political Pit Bull who found a golden nugget in an extremely long and boring article about Ariel Sharon:

Speaking of George Bush, with whom Sharon developed a very close relationship, Uri Dan recalls that Sharon's delicacy made him reluctant to repeat what the president had told him when they discussed Osama bin Laden. Finally he relented. And here is what the leader of the Western world, valiant warrior in the battle of cultures, promised to do to bin Laden if he caught him: "I will screw him in the ass!"
Way to go GW. It's good to know that he's sincere in his hate for terrorists.

It's also good to know that Al Gore may have a little but of a human heart under that robot exterior, showing an unusual amount of sense for the man who now leads the environmental nuts:
Snatches, or more properly "extraordinary renditions," were operations to apprehend terrorists abroad, usually without the knowledge of and almost always without public acknowledgement of the host government.... The first time I proposed a snatch, in 1993, the White House Counsel, Lloyd Cutler, demanded a meeting with the President to explain how it violated international law. Clinton had seemed to be siding with Cutler until Al Gore belatedly joined the meeting, having just flown overnight from South Africa. Clinton recapped the arguments on both sides for Gore: Lloyd says this. Dick says that. Gore laughed and said, "That's a no-brainer. Of course it's a violation of international law, that's why it's a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass." (pp. 143-144)
It's too damn bad he's unwilling to stand up for his private beliefs, when he would much rather kowtow to the peacenik left.

Australia To Ban The Incandescent Light Bulb

Australia is probably going to bow to crazy environmentalists by banning the incandescent light bulb. They seem to think since the incandescent light bulb uses more energy than it's florescent cousin, consumers shouldn't be allowed to purchase the cheaper bulb.

Why is it that when we consider cutting funding to medicare and medicaid we hear cries from the media about poor people having to chose between medicine or food, but we've heard nothing so far about poor people being forced to live in the dark like cavemen (not being able to afford the more pricey bulb)? The Left doesn't care about the poor. They value the environment more than any impoverished minority. They'd rather be able to go bird watching than save millions of Africans dying of malaria, and now they'd rather cut CO2 emissions a little bit than allow the poor to light their homes.

Miracles Of Life, Judges Of Death

Who's ready for a story that the media will either ignore, or completely miss the point on?

Her name means resilient fighter and her doctors and nurses said she is more than that -- Amillia Sonia Taylor is making history.

"To me it's just a miracle," a nurse on staff at Baptist Children's Hospital said.

Amillia is the new world record holder for a baby to survive through gestational age, according to the University of Iowa's national registry for the tiniest babies.

"We have a special baby here today because she was extremely premature at birth 21 weeks and 6 days," said neonatologist Dr. William Smalling. "There is no known survivor born this early to ever go home and not only is the baby going home she is thriving and doing well. It's a special day for us all here."

Surrounded by the team at Baptist Children's Hospital that has cared for her since her unexpected arrival, Amillia is now ready to go home. Doctors said they marvel at what the little girl has taught them.

"Well... I learned that we can work with babies this small," Smalling said. "Previously it was thought to be technically impossible."

"She showed us early on that she was a fighter and wanted to be here," said Dr. Paul Fassbach, a neonatologist.

Amillia was born Oct. 24, 2006. She was the world's fourth-smallest baby, weighing 284 grams (just under 10 ounces) when she was born. She was just 9.5 inches long -- barely longer than a ballpoint pen.

"We've never even really resuscitated babies this small right," Fassbach said. "Now, the recommendations for the American Academy of Pediatrics is that we can resuscitate babies that are 23 weeks or by birth weight over 400 grams. So, babies were considered non viable or too immature to survive outside the uterus if they were born earlier than that."

Doctors said that at 23 weeks old, their survival rate is 30 percent. Now, after nearly four months at Baptist's Children's Hospital neonatal intensive care unit, baby Amillia will be going home healthy and thriving.

    ...

"I guess I'm still in amazement, really," 37-year-old Tayor said. "Even looking at her now, sometimes, it was hard to imagine she would get this far. She looks like a real baby now, you know."

"She's asleep now, but usually she'll look at you and you can talk to her and she smiles," Taylor said. "So, everything a baby is supposed to do for her age, she's doing, which is amazing. Sometimes there are developmental delays you have to wait awhile for her to do, but she's surprised us all."

"I can't wait until she comes home," Jacquiria Cade, the Taylor's soon-to-be-adopted 16-year-old daughter, said.
I've never been one to use the "viability" of an infant out of the womb as an argument for whether or not the State has the right to execute them, but it's always nice to be able to smack down even the most ridiculous of the anti-life liberals' arguments.

Meanwhile, here's an aborted 22-week-old baby - older than Amillia and therefor possibly "viable." (Graphic, if you haven't scrolled down already, and you don't want to see a murdered baby, then stop.)

The image “http://abort73.com/HTML/AbortionPictures/images/abortion-22-01.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Meanwhile, a judge in Italy has forced a 13 year-old girl to murder her unborn child:
Italian Judge Imposes Abortion on 13-Year-Old
    • A 13-year-old girl from the Italian town of Torino has been forced to have an abortion due to her angry parents' opposition. The law states that minors must defer the decision to their parents.
    • After the abortion, she threatened suicide after going into a frenzy, requiring treatment. Torino Archbishop Severino Poletto said "The unborn baby is still a life and I defend life whatever the situation." The father is her 15-year-old boyfriend.
    • "Society must take of this child. I certainly oppose abortions but this case allows us to reflect on the situation. We have to take a step back and ask ourselves how this could have happened to a 13 year old girl," he said.
The world's going to Hell. Or then again, it's been there for a while.

A reminder to all that 24 is on tonight at 9. Get pumped!

How to slit a throat, brought to you by Jack Bauer:

      UN Screw-Up Could Doom Mankind

Bad news. If the UN screws this one up they may literally doom all of mankind:

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - An asteroid may come uncomfortably close to Earth in 2036 and the United Nations should assume responsibility for a space mission to deflect it, a group of astronauts, engineers and scientists said on Saturday.

Astronomers are monitoring an asteroid named Apophis, which has a 1 in 45,000 chance of striking Earth on April 13, 2036.

Although the odds of an impact by this particular asteroid are low, a recent congressional mandate for NASA to upgrade its tracking of near-Earth asteroids is expected to uncover hundreds, if not thousands of threatening space rocks in the near future, former astronaut Rusty Schweickart said.

"It's not just Apophis we're looking at. Every country is at risk. We need a set of general principles to deal with this issue," Schweickart, a member of the Apollo 9 crew that orbited the earth in March 1969, told an American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in San Francisco.

Schweickart plans to present an update next week to the U.N. Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space on plans to develop a blueprint for a global response to an asteroid threat.

The Association of Space Explorers, a group of former astronauts and cosmonauts, intends to host a series of high-level workshops this year to flesh out the plan and will make a formal proposal to the U.N. in 2009, he said.
Of course, I don't actually fear that this asteroid will hit Earth, and even if it does, I don't care because I'll be old or dead by then.

      Romney v. Douche

I happen to think that Mormonism is a crackpot religion based on the ridiculous claims of an insincere criminal, but with that said, I also find most Mormons to be kind, reasonable people who are perfectly capable of being in positions of leadership. Back when JFK was elected, some warned us that the US would be beholden to the Pope (not that JFK was a good Catholic, but anyway ...) I don't think Romney will sell us out to Salt Lake City either.

Here's a video of some jackass telling Mitt that he won't be receiving the guys vote because he doesn't "know the Lord" and is a phony. Ouch. Romney hits back, but not as hard as he could've/should've:

      Senator Clinton, 2.0?

Why do former Democrat presidents feel the need to bother the country once they're out of office. Ford, Reagan, Bush I; they settle down and enjoy the rest of their lives out of the spotlight, Democrats like Clinton and Carter continue to be media whores and won't go away. Here's a charming story on that note:

WASHINGTON — If Hillary Clinton is elected president, the next senator from New York could be her husband, Bill Clinton.

Supporters are touting that scenario in the event the seat currently held by Mrs. Clinton opens up as she moves to higher office. New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat, would be tasked with appointing someone to fill the open Senate seat for the remaining two years of Clinton's term.
Come on Fox. Aren't you going to lick Clinton's balls at all?
Could Clinton still fit the bill? One of the most popular presidents with black voters, he spoke Sunday to the annual meeting of the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, where he received a standing ovation.

      "I know how come I'm here — I'm here because I'm a stand-in for Hillary," he said.

At the event, he spoke about health care, renewable energy technology and education, all issues that Sen. Clinton has focused on during her campaign.

"He's one of those individuals that has a reputation as a liberator for minority communities," said Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who is black and is backing Sen. Clinton for president. "Bill Clinton had a reputation for delivering. He does have a tremendous effect that I've observed when it comes to minority communities."
      Nice.

      BBC on the 9/11 "Truthers"

Well, at least the 9/11 "truthers" were right about one thing. They thought that the BBC investigation into their movement would be embarrassing for them and it sure as hell is, tearing their nut-job conspiracy theories apart at every deviation from sanity - namely the whole damn thing. Here's a great excerpt (hat tip to LGF, where there are two more clips). I'm still trying to find the whole thing, because it's worthy of posting:

      'My City Was Gone'

I almost forgot to post a conservative song this week! Anyway, this week I've picked "My City Was Gone," by The Pretenders. It qualifies as a conservative song just for being Rush Limbaugh's theme song, but it also rips on large, command governments grabbing up land and selling it to the highest bidder:

      Here're the lyrics:

      I went back to ohio
      But my city was gone
      There was no train station
      There was no downtown
      South howard had disappeared
      All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
      Reduced to parking spaces
A, o, way to go ohio

Well I went back to ohio
      But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
      There was nobody home
      I was stunned and amazed
      My childhood memories
      Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
A, o, oh way to go ohio

      I went back to ohio
      But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
      The farms of ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
      And muzak filled the air
      From seneca to cuyahoga falls
Said, a, o, oh way to go ohio

      A True American Hero...

... And reported by the MSM, no less:

Hat tip to Bryan over at Hot Air.

      'Overkill'

Here's Collin Hay (of Men at Work fame) on Scrubs, one of the best damn shows on TV right now. Any way, it's a pretty good song, "Overkill:"

Why the song? No reason, just a random video. Plus I was getting Ill with "nude Harry Potter" being my only post today.

      Harry Potter Shows Some Skin

Any of you perverts want to see Harry Potter's ass? Personally, I never want to see a pasty British boy's behind, but this story seems to be generating an unreasonably large amount of attention, so I'll provide the link.

Honestly, I don't know what the big deal is. It's not like Hollywood is putting kids in graphic rape scenes, or anything...

      Isle-Crossers

The House passed their little non-binding resolution condemning the Troop Surge, you know, the one that's been working. Anyway, there aren't any articles on that story worth posting, but I thought you might want to know the names of the 17 Republicans that crossed the isle to vote for the resolution:

Reps Mike Castle of Delaware, Howard Coble of North Carolina, Tom Davis of Virginia, John J. Duncan Jr. of Tennessee, Phil English of Pennsylvania, Wayne Gilchrest of Maryland, Bob Inglis of South Carolina; Timothy V. Johnson of Illinois, Walter B. Jones Jr. of North Carolina, Ric Keller, Fla.; Mark Kirk of Illinois, Steven C. LaTourette of Ohio, Ron Paul of Texas, Tom Petri of Wisconsin; Jim Ramstad of Minnesota, Fred Upton of Michigan, and Jim Walsh of New York.
Fred is my congressman. I'm pissed. Someone's getting a very angry letter.

You should also know the 2 Democrats who voted against the resolution, "Reps. Jim Marshall of Georgia and Gene Taylor of Mississippi."

      Political correctness in Illinois:

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The University of Illinois will drop its 81-year-old American Indian mascot, Chief Illiniwek, following the last men's basketball home game of the season on Wednesday, officials said.

The move makes the school eligible to host postseason NCAA championship events, but it angered many Illini fans who say the chief honors American Indians.

The NCAA in 2005 deemed Illiniwek -- portrayed by buckskin-clad students who dance at home football and basketball games and other athletic events -- an offensive use of American Indian imagery and barred the university from hosting postseason events.
Fine. Who the Hell would want an Indian mascot anymore anyway, since they've become a group of hyper-sensitive pansies. It's not like Chief Illiniwek was parading around drunk while raping white women, scalping white men and mating with buffalo. In other words, he was historically inaccurate in the Indians' favor.

      Gross ... Just Gross

      Shudder:

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- An 84-year-old woman accused of attempted rape involving an 11-year-old boy in her foster care has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge after confessing to having sex with the child, prosecutors said Thursday.

Georgie Audean Buoy, of The Dalles, a Columbia River town about 90 miles east of Portland, will serve 36 months in prison, said Leslie Wolf, chief deputy district attorney for Wasco County.

Buoy originally faced six separate charges but reached a plea agreement on a single charge, Wolf said.

She noted that Buoy had faced eight years in prison on the original charges but her "age and lack of prior criminal convictions had a significant impact with the resolution of this case."

In a taped confession, Buoy admitted having sex with the boy while he was in her care in 2004, Wolf said.
What prison do you keep an 84 year-old woman in? Who cares?

Muslim Extremist Works On UK Trains

      Prick:

A MUSLIM fanatic who dressed as a suicide bomber at a rally threatening terror attacks has got a job on TRAINS.

Sick Omar Khayam cleans carriages unsupervised for rail giant First Group. And he has even got keys to onboard electrical cupboards.

Furious train drivers last night claimed the safety of staff and passengers is being put at risk. One driver added: “It’s an astonishing security breach. We cannot believe this man is employed in a job giving him access to locked places on trains where bombs could be hidden and never be found. He has keys that could be passed on to others for the electrical cupboards in carriages. It is a risk too far.”

Convicted drugs dealer Khayam, 22, had been filmed dressed as a bomber at the controversial demonstration outside London’s Danish Embassy last year. He wore a sinister camouflage outfit with a black vest.

Extremists around him — protesting at cartoons of the prophet Mohammed — waved placards supporting the 7/7 London bombings and calling for new UK terror attacks.

Khayam was sent back to prison after officials ruled he had broken the terms of his early release. He was due to stay behind bars until August 2007 but was AGAIN released early.

He now works nights at First Group’s huge depot in Bedford. When challenged about his job, he said: “So what? I’ve not committed a crime. If there is a concern, that’s what the police are there for. That’s what security services are for.”

      Toddler Fights - Awesome

What's wrong with toughening up your toddlers, anyway?

Footage of four women goading toddlers to fight has "stunned" police and social services in Devon.

The seven-minute footage, filmed at a house by one woman, was shown in a case at Plymouth Magistrates' Court.

In the clip, a boy wearing a nappy was called a "wimp" for not hitting a girl back after she struck him in the face.

Four women admitted child cruelty charges and were released on bail on Wednesday. Det Sgt Andy Kings said the police had been "shocked" by the case.
Great parenting, huh. I tried to find the video to no avail, so here's a better one:

Ha ha. These kids suck. They can't even skate.

Conservative 'Daily Show' To Air On Fox Sunday

Be sure to check out "The Half-Hour News Hour" this Sunday at 10 on Fox News. It's being billed as the conservative alternative to "The Daily Show:"

In 2009, Rush Limbaugh is the country's president and Ann Coulter is his vice president. The two right-wing pundits sit around the Oval Office, smoking cigars and making fun of Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton.

If that scenario sounds like a dream come true for conservatives and a nightmare for liberals, that's the point.

It's the opening skit in the series premiere of "The Half-Hour News Hour," the conservative version of Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show." The show is set to debut on Fox News this Sunday at 10 p.m.

It'll probably be bad, but I'll be checking it out just for that opening sketch.

      ***Update, 4:43pm***

Rutheford just informed me the video was already online, and that it's pretty bad. Here it is:

      Failed Suicide Bomber

Nancy Continues To Clean Up Congress

Nancy continues to reform her House to represent a less corrupt Capitol:

After being videotaped accepting a $100,000 cash bribe by the FBI and busted with $90,000 worth of loot in his freezer, Democratic Congressman William Jefferson--currently facing an ongoing federal corruption probe--is being awarded a seat on the House Homeland Security Committee.
Hat tip to the Political Pit Bull.

Just a reminder of Pelosi's attempts to clean up Congress: first she supported John Murtha for Majority Leader, and he would of gotten it to, if it weren't for that pesky video of him chomping at a bribe being dangled by an undercover FBI agent (posing as a sheik). Next Nancy wanted Alcee Hastings to lead the Intelligence committee, until there was an outcry from the public who were reminded by the right-wing media of Hastings past as a federal judge, impeached for accepting bribes.

      Correction, Perhaps?

The US government is saying that they doubt reports that Al Qaeda in Iraq chief Abu Ayyub al-Masri was injured in Iraq the other day, and that his aide was not killed, but captured.

      Lazy Friday Post

So this is what a frog preserved in amber for 25 million years looks like:

Don't worry, a scientist in the story says it's highly unlikely DNA could be extracted, even if the owner of the frog would allow it. Meaning we don't need to worry about a Jurassic Park scenario where a T-Rex is running through the streets of New York eating people.

Muslim Hijacks Plane - Passangers Beat Him Into Subbmission

Although governments may have learned nothing from 9/11, at least the civilian population has, beating this Muslim into submission before he could kill anyone:

MADRID (Reuters) - Passengers on a hijacked Air Mauritania plane ended the ordeal when they stormed the cockpit and beat up the lone gunman after the aircraft landed in Spain's Canary Islands on Thursday night, Spanish police said.

As armed police surrounded the Boeing 737 on the runway, five passengers and the co-pilot burst into the cockpit and knocked the hijacker to the ground before beating him up, a police spokesman said.

"When we landed at Las Palmas ... we entered (the cockpit) and hit him and knocked him down," one passenger told television station CNN+.

The fight gave the crew time to let in security forces, who swiftly arrested the man, the police spokesman said.

      The article continues:

Passengers said they had been terrified when they realized their internal flight from the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott to the port of Nouadhibou had been seized.

Passenger Jose Manuel told newspaper ABC that fellow travelers, mostly Spaniards, had donned life jackets, thinking the plane was going to crash.

"The plane has been hijacked! You should follow instructions. We are going to Dakhla (In Western Sahara)," the hijacker announced from the cockpit soon after taking control, newspaper El Mundo reported passenger Mohamed Ahmed as saying.

The hijacker, who police said was a 32-year-old Mauritanian man, ordered passengers to the back of the plane and held a gun to the pilot's head but one passenger managed to alert Spanish emergency services by mobile phone, media reported.

The man had demanded the plane fly to Paris, but the pilot told him the plane had to be refueled first. Moroccan authorities refused to let it land in Western Sahara so the 71 passengers and eight crew flew on to the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.

Police have not revealed the hijacker's motive but Spanish media have reported he was seeking political asylum in France.

The hijacking came on same day that Spain began the trial of 29 people, mostly Moroccans, for the 2004 Madrid train bombings which killed 191 people, and days after al Qaeda called for attacks on Mauritania's rulers.

I think most of us here in the sane world can guess his motive. The article fails to mention that Mauritania is "officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania" and is "a country in northwest Africa."

But if there's anything that we've learned from the Mainstream media it's that the fact that someone is Muslim is never important, unless of course they're the victim of some crime.

Of course it's completely possible that he was merely trying to escape his Muslim nation, as indicated in the second-to-last paragraph and had no intention to harm anyone, but what a great way to try and do that. Way to go hijacker.

      BBC To Tear Apart "Truthers"

The 9/11 "Truthers" are starting to sweat the BBC documentary on their movement that will be airing this weekend, presumptively labeling it a "sophisticated hit piece." All of this translates to the fact that it's going to be good, enjoyable and educated TV.

This weekend's highly anticipated BBC documentary on the 9/11 truth movement is likely to be a sophisticated hit piece, according to those who were interviewed for the program and others wary of the motives behind the creators of the show.

The BBC are extensively promoting the show via commercials during peak time viewing and yesterday featured a reasonably balanced summary of the 9/11 truth movement on their website. A preview clip and an extended clip showing Alex Jones and Jim Marrs at Dealy Plaza were also released yesterday. Seemingly fair promotional material shouldn't suck anyone in to believing anything else than the fact that this is most probably going to be a severe attack on 9/11 truth.

I'll be on the road this weekend, so I hope it ends up on Youtube.

Salt Lake City Mall Shootings Video

Hat tip to Jawa, who had this video of the Salt Lake City Mall Shootings, committed by a Muslim youth. It doesn't show the shooter or any victims, but you can see the police swarm:

Meanwhile, Jawa also linked to this little reminder of Islamic "non-terrorism" by Robert Spencer:

On January 31, Ismail Yassin Mohamed, 22, stole a car in Minneapolis. ... During his rampage, Mohamed repeatedly yelled, “Die, die, die, kill, kill, kill,” and when asked why he did all this, he replied, “Allah made me do it.”

Omeed Aziz Popal, a Muslim from Afghanistan, who killed one person and injured fourteen during a murderous drive through San Francisco city streets in August 2006, during which he targeted people on crosswalks and sidewalks, identified himself as a terrorist after his rampage, according to Rob Roth of San Francisco’s KTVU. Later the murders were ascribed to Popal’s mental problems, and to stress arising from his impending arranged marriage.

On July 28, 2006, a Muslim named Naveed Afzal Haq forced his way into the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. Once inside, Haq announced, “I’m a Muslim American; I’m angry at Israel,” and then began shooting, killing one woman and injuring five more. FBI assistant special agent David Gomez stated: “We believe...it’s a lone individual acting out his antagonism. There’s nothing to indicate that it’s terrorism-related. But we're monitoring the entire situation.”

In March 2006, a twenty-two-year-old Iranian student named Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar drove an SUV onto the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, deliberately trying to kill people and succeeding in injuring nine. ... [H]e explained that he was “thankful for the opportunity to spread the will of Allah.” Officials here again dismissed the possibility of terrorism, even after Taheri-azar wrote a series of letters to the UNC campus newspaper detailing the Qur’anic justification for warfare against unbelievers, and explaining why he believed his attacks were justified from an Islamic perspective.

      In Global Warming News:

      Newswise reports:

A new report on climate over the world’s southernmost continent shows that temperatures during the late 20th century did not climb as had been predicted by many global climate models.
      Meanwhile:
Former Vice President Al Gore plans to pump up the jam on awareness of global climate change in a single-day series of concerts around the world.

Gore is expected to announce plans Thursday for a single-day series of concerts in Los Angeles. He will be joined by Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, rap musician Pharrell Williams and media executive Kevin Wall, as reported in The Washington Post.

The seven major concerts on seven continents will follow the approach used by Live 8, the 2005 concerts targeted to African debt relief, according to published reports.
Boy, I can't wait! Those'll be some great concerts!
What could be better than Sting, Al Gorebot, and a few thousands smelly hippies?

I wonder if this new heap of evidence that global warming is a sham will convince Al Gore to cancel these concerts? My guess: probably not, considering these global warming alarmists don't look to scientific evidence in the first place.

Al Qaeda Leader In Iraq Wounded

      Almost got one in Iraq:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The leader of al-Qaida in Iraq was wounded and an aide was killed in a clash Thursday with Iraqi forces north of Baghdad, the Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The clash occurred near Balad, a major U.S. base about 50 miles north of the capital, Brig. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said.

Khalaf said al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri was wounded and his aide, identified as Abu Abdullah al-Majemaai, was killed.

I'll still sleep better at night thinking of him writhing in pain.

      *** Update, 12:07 pm Feb. 16 ***

A possible "nevermind"? I saw that some sites were claiming he was captured, which was apparently based on a sentence that NBC deleted by the time I caught the story.

      I Hate Russia

Could Putin be anymore of a "bully," to use liberal terminology:

Russia threatened on Thursday to pull out of a landmark nuclear arms control treaty unless the US backed away from plans to install its missile defence shield in Eastern Europe.
I would say I didn't care, since Russia's not exactly a threat anymore, but Putin's been acting like such a thug lately, I'm a little worried about Russia's future...

And before you libs try to equate what we're doing with what they're threatening to do; there's a big difference between building a defensive missile shield and stock piling ballistic and cruise missiles with huge ranges of attack.

      Blood Drinking Witch

Apparently Hillary's having some trouble with the law out in Arizona:

Arizona Woman Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Man During Sex to Drink His Blood
Leave it to the media to spin the story by printing an alias:

A woman has been arrested on suspicion that she tied up a man during sex, then stabbed him repeatedly with a knife and told him she likes to drink blood, police said.

Tiffany Sutton, 23, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault Tuesday night at a Tempe home where she and the victim were living, according to authorities.

The man, whose identity was not released, told police he had consented to being tied up but became scared when the woman attacked him with a knife.

He eventually freed himself and ran away, but Sutton chased him with a pickax, police said.

      Kind Of Harsh...

      ... Even for communists:

A Chinese man has been sentenced to death for conning people out of 3 billion yuan ($387 million) in a giant scam to breed ants, local media said Thursday.

Wang Zhendong, from the northeastern province of Liaoning, fabricated a business purported to be making wine, tea and medical elixirs using mature ants, the Beijing News said.

In parts of China, black ants are sold by the bagful to be steeped in tea or soaked in liquor as a natural remedy for ailments such as arthritis.

Wang sold packages of ants to the investors for up to as much as 10,000 yuan ($1,290) when they were only worth 200 yuan, China Central Television reported.

I guess the Chinese take their ant remedies pretty seriously....

      Mehdi Army Leaving Iraq

The Mehdi army continues to flee:

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has ordered heads of his Mehdi Army militia to leave Iraq and asked the government to arrest "outlaws" under a U.S.- backed crackdown, Iraq's president said on Thursday.

President Jalal Talabani made the remarks after Iraq closed its borders with Iran and Syria and as U.S. and Iraqi troops tightened their grip on Baghdad, patrolling neighborhoods and setting up checkpoints that searched even official convoys.

Insurgents defied a sweep by U.S. and Iraqi soldiers of the volatile southern, mainly Sunni, Doura district, exploding two car bombs that killed four people. A bomb planted on a bus in the Mehdi Army stronghold of Sadr City killed three people.

Talabani said he was unaware of Sadr's whereabouts. The U.S. military has said the anti-American cleric is in Iran, but his aides insist he is in Iraq's holy Shi'ite city Najaf. An Iraqi government official said he was in Tehran, but only for a short visit.

      Basketball Players Aren't All Bad

      Ha ha:

Retired NBA guard Tim Hardaway said Wednesday that he hates gay people, but later said he regretted the remarks.

"You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people," he said while a guest on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket. "I'm homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

The discussion was sparked by last week's announcement that retired NBA center John Amaechi is gay.
I hate the word homophobic. AIDSphobic would be more accurate, but it's still lacking.

I Am Man, Hear Me Roar

      Speaking of liberal crap:

Judges order man to pay for child he didn’t father

KANSAS CITY - Missouri judges have ordered a man to pay thousands of dollars in child support for a child he didn’t father.

Even the child’s mother agrees the man is not the father. Yet a state agency says he is because he was married to the woman when she gave birth.

The state wants David Salazar thrown in jail, and an appeals court on Tuesday agreed.

His lawyer, though, hopes that a higher court will rescue the Buchanan County man and others like him caught in a national issue that pits fairness for men against what is considered best for children.

Many men nationwide get trapped into paying child support because they do not contest paternity before state-set deadlines.

      Whole story here.

During the 7:00pm showing at the six-theater multiplex, a white sport utility vehicle smashed through a wall of the theater while the audience was watching the movie.

Police said the accident happened about 7:45pm.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt, even though the SUV came inches from some moviegoer heads.

"I never thought it'd be here in the theater, especially while the show's running and a couple people are in here watching Dreamgirls. It was just surreal shock," said theater owner Robert Sadlon.

Police charged the driver, 46-year-old Diletta Squires, with driving under the influence.

Who's Up For Some Arts and Crafts?

Sorry for all the stories about teachers, but this one is so wholly unsettling, that I just have to post it. From Metro.co.uk (so was the last one):

A Dutch primary school teacher who is dying of cancer is overseeing one last project among her beloved pupils - they are making a coffin for her.

Eri van den Biggelaar, 40, has just a few weeks left to live after being diagnosed last year with an aggressive form of cervical cancer. Always popular at school, she asked the arts and crafts teacher to build a casket for her.

'Why don't you let the children make it?' replied her colleague and woodwork teacher Erik van Dijk.

Now the youngsters, who normally plane wood for baskets and placemats, are putting the finishing touches to what will be the final resting place for Miss Biggelaar. The children have sawed more than one hundred narrow little boards and glued them together, and only the lid needs to be done now.

The coffin is standing in the middle of one of the classrooms. Some of the children play with it, climbing into it and pretending to be U-boat captains.

While Biggelaar is no longer able to work, she is keeping track of the coffins progress, looking at sketch plans and being kept up to date about it by pupils, aged between four and 11, who visit her at home.

She says: 'Life and death belong together. The children realised that when I explained it to them. I didn't want to be morbid about it, I wanted them to help me.'

I've never really liked the dutch.

      Teachers - Unsung Heroes

What the Hell is a supply teacher, anyway?

In an incident that perhaps gives a new meaning to the phrase 'supply teacher', a 59-year-old substitute teacher has been arrested on suspicion of repeatedly taking cocaine in front of the class she was teaching.

The arrest came after two girls – one nine, the other ten – reported that Joan Donatelli had been dipping a pen cap into a small plastic bag filled with white powder, then putting the pen lid to her nose.

Police subsequently found traces of white powder in the classroom. When they confronted Donatelli at her home, she handed over a small green bag of powder and two pen caps – both of which tested positive for the drug - and admitting to using cocaine in front of the children.

'She stated that she had a probloem [sic], that she had an addiction, something she's been struggling with,' said Sergeant Frank Previte, of the Lewiston, NY police.

The school confirmed that Donatelli used to teach at the school full time, but is now retired, although she acts as a substitute. During her time as a full-time teacher at the school, as recently as 2004, she would have been one of the teachers involved in the school's drug education curriculum.

Carlos Mencia Plagiarizes Worse Than Biden

I have always hated Carlos Mencia, mostly because I don't find him funny. Apparently he steals all of his jokes, though, so we can blame those other comedians. But anyway, here's a video of him getting his ass handed to him by Joe Rogan, by the way, the language in this video is horrendous:

I think my favorite revelation in this video is that Carlos isn't Mexican. He's half Honduran and half German and his original name is Ned Arnel Holness. What a phony.

      *** Update, 5:30 pm Feb. 16 ***

Let's add hypocrite to the long list of labels for Carlos Mencia. You may have notice that that video no longer works. that would be because:

the video on YouTube that Rogan originally pointed to from his blog has been taken down following a DMCA request from... Carlos Mencia. The video is still available elsewhere and Rogan is offering up various mirrors for downloads -- so it will likely keep appearing. However, it does seem ironic that Mencia is claiming copyright violations to takedown a video that pretty clearly shows him using other's material. It's difficult to see how Mencia has a DMCA claim at all. The video material was mostly taken by Rogan's associates -- so he holds the copyright to it. The short clips he used from other sources to prove his point are pretty clearly fair use. Either way, it seems pretty ridiculous to claim copyright infringement on a video revealing evidence that you used someone else's material without credit.
Here's another one. I'll try to keep them up here:

      American Wars

Without saying anything about its accuracy, this is at least interesting:

      Al Franken For Senate

I can't tell whether this is a joke or not, but it would appear that Al Franken has announced that he is going to run for the US Senate in Minnesota.

Al Franken has that same sort of holier-than-thou liberal BS personality that Keith Olbermann has, and I therefore hate him.

Oh look, here's the video of his announcement:

My God. I'm watching this video right now and he just keeps going, with no coherent point and no comedy. With Al Franken you can at least usually expect a couple of jokes, but no. So far it's just some down home story about his humble origins.

Anyone want to hear a moronic, nonsensical analogy? Okay:

Conservatives like to say that people need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps – and that’s a great idea. But first, you’ve got to have the boots. And the government gave my wife’s family the boots.

That’s what progressives like me believe the government is there for. To provide security for middle-class families like the one I grew up in, and opportunity for working poor families like the one Franni grew up in.
Summing up the video for you: I'm a communist and the government needs to go back to the good ol' days of LBJ when the government would pay you to be poor.

      *** Update, 9:37 pm ***

Fox News has the good news on Franken's Senate run:
Senator Al Franken? Could be, as the comedian and left leaning political commentator Al Franken ended a three-year gig as a radio host by announcing on Wednesday he will seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Minnesota Republican Norm Coleman.
Not that anyone listened to him, but now we don't have to worry about some poor child accidentally flipping to Air America and literally dying from boredom.

      NYT On Sadr

You know how liberals act like you're paranoid when you tell them that they portray all news from Baghdad as bad news, and that no matter what happened it can't be good in their eyes? Well, here's the NYT on the possibility that Sadr has fled Iraq:

If Mr. Sadr had indeed fled, his absence would create a vacuum that could allow even more radical elements of the Shiite group to take power.
It takes a great deal of skill to spin the news so damn well.

Edwards - Pull Out (You've Got Enough Children)

Here's a little insight into one of the many men who wants to be the commander and chief of our armed forces:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said Wednesday that he would immediately pull about a third of U.S. combat troops out of Iraq if he were president.

Congress should also cut military funding to force President Bush to do so, Edwards said.

Edwards is going a step farther than rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, who want to cap the number of troops in Iraq to prevent Bush's increase, but are reluctant to cut funding while soldiers are on the ground.

"At this point, the escalation is under way, so blocking it is not enough," Edwards told reporters in a conference call. "So what I'm doing today is calling on Congress to take the next step, which is to cap funding."

      Evil Profit Hungry Big Tobacco

I was just looking out how evil big tobacco is, putting profits before their costumer's health. But then again, who's really making a gross profit off of cigarettes? And people wonder why the government won't just get around to banning them. Here's where profits go in my state:

      Scalia's Daughter

      Story:

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's daughter was arrested this week and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and child endangerment, officials said Wednesday.

Ann S. Banaszewski, 45, of Wheaton, was arrested Monday evening while driving away from a fast-food restaurant in the suburb 20 miles west of Chicago, police said.

Three children were inside Banaszewski's van when someone called police to report a suspected intoxicated driver, said Deputy Chief Tom Meloni.

Meloni would not release Banaszewski's blood-alcohol level. He also declined to give the children's ages or say whether Banaszewski had a previous record.

She was released on a personal recognizance bond. The DuPage County Circuit Court had no information Wednesday about a whether a court appearance had been scheduled.

A message left at Banaszewski's home was not immediately returned and Meloni did not know whether she had an attorney.

Scalia, who began serving on the Supreme Court in 1986, has nine children.

I think the most shocking part of that story is the last three words. If I were Scalia, I would just find a right hidden in a penumbra to allow drunk driving.

      Salt Lake Shooter Muslim

Hat tip to LGF for finding confirmation that the Bosnian who went into a mall in Salt Lake City and killed 5 people in cold blood was indeed a Muslim:

Police said Talovic had a juvenile record of only four minor offenses. None of his arrests were for violent crimes.

The man had lived at a house with his mother and three younger sisters near the Utah State Fairpark. Neither his mother nor his sisters would answer the door or respond to phone calls Tuesday, although a person inside would pick up the phone and then quickly hang up.

Ajka Omerovic, who said she was Talovic’s aunt, visited the home Tuesday afternoon. She told the Deseret Morning News that Talovic had been “a good boy.” She said the family are Muslims from Bosnia who had lived in the vicinity of Sarajevo.

Some argue that his religion isn't important to this story, but if that were true we wouldn't have all wondered in the first place whether he was Muslim or not. It is undeniable that Islam lends itself well to violence.

      Ellison Taddles On Tancredo

Hat tip to Allahpundit over at Hot Air:

This is how it all went down. On Wednesday evening, around 6 p.m., Tancredo was preparing for his trip to Mississippi. And as he so often does, he was unwinding with a cigar.

Soon enough, however, a police officer walked in to check on the smoke. The officer told Tancredo that the officer came because he was required to do so and not because the officer wanted to. The officer had already told Ellison that Tancredo was permitted to smoke in his office. The visit was more a formality.

Tancredo said he would not stop smoking in his office. “Heck, no!” he said. “If he [Ellison] would have [had] the courtesy to say something I’m sure I would have been more accommodating to his wishes.”

To help keep his office free of impurities, Tancredo has three air purifiers. And he has no plans to meet Ellison anytime soon. “I’m sure we will, but I’m not going to make a point [of it],” the presidential hopeful said, adding that he supported Ellison’s right to be sworn in with the Quran.

In other words, Tancredo was smoking a cigar in his congressional office - which is completely legal - and Ellison, rather than asking him to stop (which would have made him enough of a pussy) called the cops on him. Someone needs to remind Ellison that we're not under Sharia law quite yet.

      Al Sadr Flees To Iran

No good will come from this violent escalation of the occupation in Iraq - well, if you're a terrorist that is:

While members of the U.S. House of Representatives take turns weighing in on President Bush's planned troop surge in Iraq, the focus in Iraq is not on the arrival of more U.S. troops, but the departure of one of the country's most powerful men, Moqtada al Sadr and members of his army.

According to senior military officials al Sadr left Baghdad two to three weeks ago, and fled to Tehran, Iran, where he has family.

Al Sadr commands the Mahdi Army, one of the most formidable insurgent militias in Iraq, and his move coincides with the announced U.S. troop surge in Baghdad.

Sources believe al Sadr is worried about an increase of 20,000 U.S. troops in the Iraqi capital. One official told ABC News' Martha Raddatz, "He is scared he will get a JDAM [bomb] dropped on his house."

Sources say some of the Mahdi army leadership went with al Sadr.

Though he is gone for now, many think al Sadr is not gone for good. In Tehran he is trying to keep the Madhi militia together.

Need I point out that there is no evidence that Iran is helping kill Americans in Iraq? Just supplying weapons and protecting our enemies. Way to go.

Zawahri Calls Bush Alcoholic, Dreams of Goat-Love

Zawahri says, "[President] Bush suffers from an addictive personality, and was an alcoholic. I don't know his present condition," to which I say, better a recovered alcoholic than a current barbaric womanizing murderer, and while we're at it, probably a pedophile too.

There is Absolutely No Debate on Global Warming - Except This

      From Drudge:

Scientists in India are skeptical of the alarmist theories on man-made global warming. Meanwhile, a US study shows that melting glaciers may be disappearing variably and not at an increasing rate.

      Warning to Black People

Be afraid black people. George Bush has learned how to control tornadoes and he still doesn't care about you!

      The Democratic Devotion To Failure

      From the WaPo:

Democratic congressional leaders vowed today to keep the House debate over the war in Iraq going until midnight, despite a dangerous ice storm that closed the federal government and schools throughout the area.
These Dems really take their job seriously. The only thing that could ever stop them from their mission of serving the people in Congress would be if there was a football game on or something.

Just A Good Ol' Boy, Never Meanin' No Harm...

Watch some smarmy British people almost get lynched by some good ol' boys:

The show's "Top Gear," a British show about cars that's actually quite good.

      Hat tip to Allah.

      Obama's "Slip"

      Freudian, I'm sure:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is apologizing for saying the lives of the more than 3,000 U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war were "wasted."

During his first campaign trip this weekend, the Illinois senator told a crowd in Iowa: "We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."

He immediately apologized on Sunday, saying the remark was "a slip of the tongue."

During an appearance Monday in Nashua, N.H., he apologized again, telling reporters he meant to criticize the civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military.

"Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken," Obama said. "It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any (military families) felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that they'd shown."

Didn't they have speech classes in that Madrasah? And what is it with Democrats and "accidently" saying that US soldiers are under-educated idiots that can be tricked into fighting a war were their lost lives are nothing but a waste?

      Update, 6:01 pm -

What's a post like this without the sickening video to accompany it?

      Hat tip: Little Green Footballs

I think the most sickening thing aobut this video is how the crowd continues to clap and cheer when Barack Hussein Obama mentions the over 3000 dead. To these liberals those soldiers' lives are just another piece of ammunition that they can use in their sick "we told you so" game.

      Racist Southerners

Imagine, if you will, a Republican who said that they didn't support a particular candidate for president for the particular reason that he was black. It had nothing to do with his politics or experience, this Republican just didn't want the candidate on the ballot because of the color of his skin.

      Now read this:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Two key black political leaders in South Carolina who backed John Edwards in 2004 said Tuesday they are supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

State Sens. Robert Ford and Darrell Jackson told The Associated Press they believe Clinton is the only Democrat who can win the presidency. Both said they had been courted by Illinois Sen. Barack Obama; Ford said Obama winning the primary would drag down the rest of the party.

"Then everybody else on the ballot is doomed," Ford said. "Every Democratic candidate running on that ticket would lose because he's black and he's at the top of the ticket _ we'd lose the House, the Senate and the governors and everything."

"I'm a gambling man. I love Obama," Ford said. "But I'm not going to kill myself."

      Tardo Charged With Murder

      From NPR:

In an affluent suburb of Boston, a community is asking tough questions following the murder of one high school student by another. The student charged in the fatal stabbing, John Odgren, suffers from Asperger syndrome, a mild form of autism.
I never really understood the argument that we shouldn't punish retarded criminals. There are two main reasons for jailing someone - the first and most important is punishment and retribution, making the criminal pay for his crime but the other reason, of nearly equal importance, is to keep violent criminals off of the street where they can commit further crimes. The fact that this kid's retarded and "doesn't even know he's done anything wrong" just seems to justify the need to lock him up, because there's clearly no remorse.

      Iranians In Iraq

      Interesting:

JAKARTA, Indonesia - A top U.S. general said Tuesday there was no evidence the Iranian government was supplying Iraqi insurgents with highly lethal roadside bombs, apparently contradicting claims by other U.S. military and administration officials.

Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said U.S. forces hunting down militant networks that produced roadside bombs had arrested Iranians and that some of the material used in the devices were made in Iran.

“That does not translate that the Iranian government per se, for sure, is directly involved in doing this,” Pace told reporters in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. “What it does say is that things made in Iran are being used in Iraq to kill coalition soldiers.”
Meanwhile, Iraq seems to understand that it doesn't really matter whether the government's involved or not, they need to be stopped (along with foreign terrorists):
Iraq announced plans on Tuesday to close its borders with Iran and Syria and lengthen a night curfew on vehicles in new emergency measures to try to curb unrelenting violence in Baghdad.

The measures were unveiled during another day of bloodshed in the capital in which a suicide bomber blew up a truck rigged with explosives near a Baghdad college, killing 18 people just a day after bomb blasts ripped apart two crowded city markets.

They are the clearest sign yet from Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki that an offensive against militants who are tearing Iraq apart is picking up pace.

      Update, 5:30 pm -

I wonder if Pace was privy to this when he made that statement:

Austrian sniper rifles that were exported to Iran have been discovered in the hands of Iraqi terrorists, The Daily Telegraph has learned.

More than 100 of the.50 calibre weapons, capable of penetrating body armour, have been discovered by American troops during raids.

The guns were part of a shipment of 800 rifles that the Austrian company, Steyr-Mannlicher, exported legally to Iran last year.

The sale was condemned in Washington and London because officials were worried that the weapons would be used by insurgents against British and American troops.

Within 45 days of the first HS50 Steyr Mannlicher rifles arriving in Iran, an American officer in an armoured vehicle was shot dead by an Iraqi insurgent using the weapon.

Over the last six months American forces have found small caches of the £10,000 rifles but in the last 24 hours a raid in Baghdad brought the total to more than 100, US defence sources reported.

Gee. I'm sure the Iranian government had nothing to do with purchasing 800, $20,000 rifles. That's just spare change to terrorists who live in caves.

What's a $20,000 rifle look like you ask. This:

      Charles Norwood, Jr, RIP

Here's what Fox News has to say:

Rep. Charles Norwood, Jr., a seven-term Republican congressman from Georgia, died Tuesday after battling cancer and lung disease. He was 65.

Norwood died at his home in Augusta, Ga., early Tuesday afternoon, his office said. The House interrupted debate on an Iraq war resolution for a moment of silence in his honor.

Norwood suffered from a chronic lung disease and later developed metastatic cancer that spread from his lung to his liver. He had declined further treatment last week and returned home to Georgia to receive hospice care.

A feisty, tobacco-chewing conservative who loved to hunt and who railed against government bureaucracy, Norwood was part of the Republican wave that took control of Congress in 1994.

He came out of nowhere to beat Democratic incumbent Don Johnson, becoming the first Republican to represent that northeastern Georgia district since shortly after the Civil War.

Friends say Norwood had hoped to follow that by becoming Georgia's first Republican governor in the modern era. He also considered a Senate bid, but he deferred running statewide after he was diagnosed with the life-threatening lung disease in 1998.

The Department of Education says that it will open a public school next fall dedicated to Arabic language and culture.

The Khalil Gibran International Academy is one of 40 new schools that will their debut in the city next September.

Education officials say that although half the classes at the school will be taught in Arabic, they want to enroll a diverse student body.

The school is set to open in Brooklyn.

Skydiver Falls 2 Miles, Lands On A Bush, And Survives

      This guy's a bad ass:

A skydiver who survived a fall of 12,000 feet thanks to the thorny branches of a blackberry bush has released dramatic footage from his helmet camera, capturing his rapid descent towards earth as he plummeted helplessly to what seemed like certain death...

As he tumbles towards the ground at 80 mph, the skydiver is seen checking the altitude reading on his left wrist as he struggles to turn onto his back to try to spot the problem and correct it. In the final seconds of his fall, Holmes waves at the camera and yells “bye” before the image of his shadow growing larger beneath him fills the screen and the picture suddenly goes black.

A low moan is then heard as he tries to breathe with one lung punctured by ribs snapped on impact. The camera of fellow parachutist, Jonathan King, then comes into play, showing King pushing his way through the blackberry thicket toward Holmes as he calls frantically: “Talk to me, man. You Ok?”

“No,” comes the response.... Friends ask if I was scared but really I was just angry that I’d done everything exactly as I should and it hadn’t worked,” he said in an interview. “I was very focused on what I was doing and I remember everything. Nothing’s a blur."

Peggy Hill did that once, only her chute didn't even open.

      Funny Ad

Here's some great environmental scare mongering that I had to tolerate during on of the fity-or-so commercial breaks during tonight's 24:

      Televise The Supreme Court?

There's a "renewed call" in the Senate to televise Supreme Court hearings. I'm all for it, I'd love to see Ruth Bader Ginsberg fall asleep again.

But seriously, I think this would be great. Maybe if people saw how ridiculous these people are they'd learn to just ignore judicial fiats. Then we could go back to being a nation governed by the people, not by the Supreme Court.

Egypt - Our Allie In The Sand

Hat tip to LGF for this gem - a little reminder that Islamic states are still insane:

A member of the Egyptian Parliament from President Hosni Mubarak’s ruling party said Monday that nothing short of a nuclear bomb would ‘work’ with Israel.

“That cursed Israel is trying to destroy al-Aksa mosque,” Mohamed el-Katatny of Mubarak’s National Democratic Party (NDP) told the Egyptian Parliament, adding “nothing will work with Israel except for a nuclear bomb that wipes it out of existence.”

The harsh statement was uttered during a heated discussion of Israel’s renovation of the Mughrabi walkway near the Temple Mount. Egyptian parliamentarians claimed that Israel was destroying the Al Aksa mosque.

      Just Five Minutes?

      Congress to consider oxymoronic resolution:

Moving ahead after the Senate Iraq debate got stymied by a Republican filibuster, House leaders Monday put out a very simple two-paragraph resolution saying Congress supports the troops in Iraq but opposes President Bush's plan to send 20,000 more, CBS News correspondent Bob Fuss reports.

The resolution sets the stage for the first major Iraq debate in Congress in years – three full days where every member of the House will have five minutes to speak about the war.

Though nonbinding, it will speak volumes if, as expected, a bipartisan majority votes a resolution of no confidence in the president's war strategy.

Debate on the resolution is scheduled to begin on Tuesday

      What? The Deficit's Shrinking?

Look what the BBC caught on to after the Democrats took control of the House and Senate:

Sharp fall in US budget deficit

The US federal budget deficit for the first four months of the current spending year has fallen sharply.

The deficit for the budget year which began in October 2006 totalled $42.2bn (£21.7bn), down 57.2% on a year ago, the US Treasury Department reported.

The four-month figure was boosted by a £38.2bn budget surplus in January.

Revenues collected between October and January rose by almost 10% to a record $834.1bn, boosted by strong corporate profits and lower unemployment.

Government spending over the period also hit a record level, reaching $876.3bn.

Thanks to the BBC for telling us what we already knew long, long ago.

Mitt Romney Loves Cars More Than Jews

Wow. The Democrats lost absolutely no time in slamming Mitt Romney as a racist:

Republican Mitt Romney's choice of a museum honoring auto pioneer Henry Ford as the site of his presidential announcement was strongly criticized Monday by Jewish Democrats, who noted Ford's history of anti-Semitism.

The former Massachusetts governor, who is scheduled to formally launch his presidential candidacy from the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit on Tuesday, was taken to task by The National Jewish Democratic Council.

The council "is deeply troubled by Governor Romney's choice of locations to announce his presidential campaign," executive director Ira Forman said in a statement.

"Romney has been traveling the country talking about inclusiveness and understanding of people from all walks of life," Forman said. "Yet he chooses to kick (off) his presidential campaign on the former estate of a well-known and outspoken anti-Semite and xenophobe."

Forman said Romney's "embrace of Henry Ford and association of Ford's legacy with his presidential campaign raises serious questions about either the sincerity of Romney's words or his understanding of basic American history."

My bullshit meter almost exploded as I kept reading these libs' complaints. Theirs is the party that could care less if every Jew in Israel were wiped off of the map. They're the party whose base frequently derides Jews on any one of their left-wing blogs. Would they criticize someone for launching their campaign from the MLK Jr. Museum - after all, he was a know womanizer, and communist sympathizer.

      Germany Releases Known Terrorist

Another reminder of why Germany sucks:

BERLIN: A German court on Monday ordered the release of Brigitte Mohnhaupt, a leading member of the terrorist Red Army Faction who has spent 24 years in prison for carrying out several kidnappings and murders in the 1970s.

The decision to release her on March 27 set off sharp protests, led by the police union, but was welcomed by several political parties, including the Social Democrats and the Free Democrats.

Will that "progressive" Europe ever learn that the only way to deal with this type of person is capital punishment, or at the least, throw them in jail and toss out the key.

Here's an overview of Mohnhaupt's terrorist activities:
      • 9 June 1972: Mohnhaupt was arrested in Berlin in connection with the RAF and sentenced to a lengthy prison term for involvement with a criminal organisation. During her incarceration, shortly after Ulrike Meinhof's death in prison, she was transferred to Stammheim prison where the majority of other RAF prisoners were being kept. She was released from prison on 8 February 1977, and immediately went back underground and continued her work with the RAF.
      • Mohnhaupt was a major player in the German Autumn, she was involved in the 30 July 1977 killing of banker Jürgen Ponto, chairman of the Dresdner Bank board of directors in Oberursel, Taunus, during a botched kidnapping attempt along with Susanne Albrecht and Christian Klar and was also involved in the kidnap and murder of employer representative Hanns Martin Schleyer.
      • 11 May 1978 Mohnhaupt was rearrested in Yugoslavia, along with Sieglinde Hofmann, Rolf Clemens Wagner, and Peter-Jürgen Boock. However, in November 1978 she was allowed to leave for a country of her choice.
      • 15 September 1981 Mohnhaupt took part in an assassination attempt on US GeneralFrederick Kroesen using an RPG-7 anti-tank rocket. Kroesen only barely survived.
Germany continues to prove that it is no friend of the US.

US Envoy: North Korea Agrees To Disarm

      I have hopeful scepticism:

The U.S. envoy to talks on North Korea's nuclear program said Tuesday that negotiators reached a tentative agreement on initial steps for the communist nation's disarmament.

Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said the agreement outlined specific commitments for North Korea and would set up working groups to implement those goals to begin meeting in about a month. He declined to give other details.

"I'm encouraged by this that we were able to take a step forward on the denuclearization issue," Hill said.
I'm pretty sure they've agreed to disarm before (or at least not seek nuclear technology). You know, back when Clinton gave them all the resources they needed to develop nukes based on their word that they wouldn't.

      Miracle in New York

Just a reminder that God does care:

Daniel Walker was on his final lap jogging in his high school gym class when he collapsed, his flawed heart giving out on him.

Days later, his heart at a standstill, kept alive by a bypass machine, it began beating again. The 17-year-old's parents called it divine intervention. His physicians were no less amazed.

"I've been a surgeon for 10 years, and this is probably one of the most incredible things I've ever seen," said Dr. Abeel Mangi, one of Walker's cardiac surgeons at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia.

Walker's father described his son's recovery in spiritual terms. "God turned around, put His hand on my son, and recharged him," said William Walker, 58, a retired sanitation worker.

His son's ordeal began Jan. 19 when he collapsed in gym class. The younger Walker suffered from a rare congenital heart flaw that left his coronary artery pinched, giving him only 10 percent of normal heart capacity. He was shuttled to two hospitals before finding himself at Columbia, waiting for a heart transplant, attached to the bypass machine.

Walker's cardiac surgeons said they could not account for the young man's recovery.

"It's a miracle," Mangi said. "There's really no other way to put it."

Two days after it began to beat on its own, surgeons were able to fix the flaw in Walker's heart, increasing its capacity to 60 percent.

Oh look liberals, science failed to save this kid.

Failed Attack on US Base In Japan

How many times can we rely on the fact that our enemies are incompetent? Fortunately they were in this instance:

TOKYO — A small explosion occurred outside a U.S. Army base south of Tokyo late Monday, police and military officials said. A Japanese news report said police suspected an attempted attack on the base.

The Army was investigating the blast, said an official at Camp Zama who spoke on condition of anonymity, adding that there were no reports of injuries or damage.

"A small explosion was heard in the vicinity of the base," said Maj. David Smith, a Pentagon spokesman. "It did not occur on the base."

Kyodo News agency reported that police had found a "launch pad" near the base and suspected an attempted guerrilla attack. The Army could not immediately confirm what had caused the explosion.

A Kanagawa Prefecture police official who only gave his name as Okamura said Zama residents reported hearing the explosion around 11 p.m. and police were investigating.

There's now evidence to support the obvious conclusion that this failed attack was the work of al-Qaeda:
There was a scare today at a U.S. military base outside Tokyo when two small explosions occurred shortly after 11 p.m. there. While no one was injured, investigators are looking at the possibility that it was an attempted terrorist attack.

Intelligence reports in Japan and Pakistan suggest al Qaeda has established a small but powerful presence in Japan, which leads some wondering whether or not today's events are the first attempt at an attack by al Qaeda in Japan.

Pakistani intelligence sources tell ABC News they have had several reports that Pakistani militant organizations working with al Qaeda had established networks in Japan as far back as 1999.

A Pakistani intelligence source says these networks were set up following the direct orders of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the top al Qaeda leader who is now in U.S. custody at Guantanamo Bay. Mohammed reportedly had a "deep interest" in conducting operations inside Japan.

The source also tells ABC News around two dozen Pakistanis had been sent to Japan on student visas in the late 1990s to set up "sleeper cells," and those individuals had linked with operatives from the leading Indonesian terror group, Jemaah Islamiya.

      Silent February

Just when you thought it was safe to live an environmentally-friendly life and leave a clean Earth for your grandchildren, the environmentalists let you in on the fact that every Valentine's Day you've been killing the planet. But how, you ask? This Telegraph story gives you the scoop:

The Valentine's Day bouquet — the gift that every woman in Britain will be waiting for next week — has become the latest bête noire among environmental campaigners.

Latest Government figures show that the flowers that make up the average bunch have flown 33,800 miles to reach Britain.

In the past three years, the amount of flowers imported from the Netherlands has fallen by 47 per cent to 94,000 tons, while those from Africa have risen 39 per cent to 17,000 tons.

Environmentalists warned that "flower miles" could have serious implications on climate change in terms of carbon dioxide emissions from aeroplanes.

Andrew Sims, the policy director of the New Economics Foundation, said: "There are plenty of flowers that grow in Britain in the winter and don't need to be hothoused.

"Air freighting flowers half way round the world contributes to global warming.

"You can argue the planes would be flying anyway but the amount of greenhouse gases pumped out depends on the weight of the cargo."

Vicky Hird, of Friends of the Earth, said: "We don't want to be killjoys because receiving flowers can be lovely but why not grow your own gift?"

I wish the wackos would be more clear. Am I safe to buy flowers here in America?

      Czech President Clearly Moron

Apparently Czech president Vaclav Klaus has learned nothing from John Howard's folly - being a foreign leader who criticizes a liberal ideal or candidate - and he went ahead and claimed in an interview that man-made global warming is a "myth."

      Some good excerpts:

Q: IPCC has released its report and you say that the global warming is a false myth. How did you get this idea, Mr President?

A: It's not my idea. Global warming is a false myth and every serious person and scientist says so. It is not fair to refer to the U.N. panel. IPCC is not a scientific institution: it's a political body, a sort of non-government organization of green flavor. It's neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists. These people are politicized scientists who arrive there with a one-sided opinion and a one-sided assignment. Also, it's an undignified slapstick that people don't wait for the full report in May 2007 but instead respond, in such a serious way, to the summary for policymakers where all the "but's" are scratched, removed, and replaced by oversimplified theses. This is clearly such an incredible failure of so many people, from journalists to politicians. If the European Commission is instantly going to buy such a trick, we have another very good reason to think that the countries themselves, not the Commission, should be deciding about similar issues.
Prepare to get slammed as an incompetent moron, Vaclav.

      Another good excerpt:
Q: But you're not a climate scientist. Do you have a sufficient knowledge and enough information?

A: Environmentalism as a metaphysical ideology and as a worldview has absolutely nothing to do with natural sciences or with the climate. Sadly, it has nothing to do with social sciences either. Still, it is becoming fashionable and this fact scares me. The second part of the sentence should be: we also have lots of reports, studies, and books of climatologists whose conclusions are diametrally [sic] opposite. Indeed, I never measure the thickness of ice in Antarctica. I really don't know how to do it and don't plan to learn it. However, as a scientifically oriented person, I know how to read science reports about these questions, for example about ice in Antarctica. I don't have to be a climate scientist myself to read them. And inside the papers I have read, the conclusions we may see in the media simply don't appear. But let me promise you something: this topic troubles me which is why I started to write an article about it last Christmas. The article expanded and became a book. In a couple of months, it will be published. One chapter out of seven will organize my opinions about the climate change. Environmentalism and green ideology is something very different from climate science. Various findings and screams of scientists are abused by this ideology.
Lesson to foreign leaders: Call the Republican President of the United States Satan, media laughs. Call Barack a terrorist sympathizer and criticize global warming, media scorns.

The Miracle Of Stem Cell Research

Ah the wonders of stem cell research:

Women have grown their own breast implants through pioneering stem cell treatment, it emerged yesterday.

Scientists harvested the stem cells from the women's own fat and encouraged them to form breast tissue.

They say the result gives a more natural look than many of the synthetic implants used by showbusiness stars like Pamela Anderson.

The Japanese teams have carried out trials on dozens of women and say they have had no problems.

They say the treatment will be routinely available from plastic surgeons within five years.

British surgeons said yesterday they were convinced by the technique and found it "appealing".

Stem cells can turn into different tissues in the body and this technique involves taking them from fat.

I should note that these were adult stem cells, not embryonic stem cells. In other words: "No unborn children were harmed in the making of these boobs!"

AP: Fears Over Illegal Immigration Fueling KKK Membership

You gotta love the media... Prepare for your draw to drop as you read this AP piece:

Fears over illegal immigration are fueling a resurgence in membership to the KuKlux Klan in North Carolina and across the country, according to Klan officials and organizations that track hate groups.

In Gaston County near Charlotte, the imperial wizard of the Mount Holly-based chapter of the Klan says membership is growing faster than he's seen since joining in the 1960s.

"People are tired of this mess," said Virgil Griffin, 62. "The illegal immigrants are taking this country over."

Griffin recounted 1960s Klan rallies when dozens, sometimes hundreds, marched through towns such as Mount Holly, Salisbury and Wilmington.

"We were strong in the '60s," he said. "We're not that strong now. We're hoping to get there."
The group wants to increase its numbers so it can influence local and national politics. The Klan's goals include military border enforcement and ending taxpayer-funded services to illegal immigrants.
Is the liberal media shameless? Yes. Practically comparing those who believe in border enforcement with the KKK? My God, no scruples, whatsoever....

      Barack On The 'Blackness Scale'

Like most SNL skits these days, this one's not very funny. But I like posting videos, so here's Barack Obama on SNL's "Blackness Scale:"

      'Truther' Gets Schooled

9/11 truther gets his ass handed to him by a iron worker who actually knows what he's talking about:

The video plugs the site 911Myths.com, which seems to be a decent bank of "Truther"-debunking knowledge.

Whale Blubber Hard To Come By?

Why does this story make me want to hit people? "Inuit accuse US of destroying their way of life with global warming:"

A delegation of Inuit is to travel to Washington DC to provide first-hand testimony of how global warming is destroying their way of life and to accuse the Bush administration of undermining their human rights.
      Once again, I'm speechless...

      Chicks With Di... Nevermind...

Ragnar over at Jawa notes that it looks like the Dixie Chicks have found the right friends, those on the left:

In 1999, the Dixie Chicks received a Grammy Award for "Best Country Album" for their album "Wide Open Spaces."

In 2000, the Dixie Chicks received a Grammy Award for "Best Country Album" for their album "Fly."

In 2003, the Dixie Chicks received a Grammy Award for "Best Country Album" for their album "Home."

In 2007, the Dixie Chicks received:

a Grammy for "Best Country Album" for their album "Taking the Long Way,"

a Grammy for "Song of the Year" for "Not Ready to Make Nice,"

a Grammy for "Record of the Year" for "Not Ready to Make Nice" and

a Grammy for "Album of the Year" for "Taking the Long Way."

      Saddam's VP To Be Hanged

AP: "An Iraqi court on Monday raised the sentence against Saddam Hussein's vice president to death by hanging for the killings of Shiites in the town of Dujail."

Mark one down for the good guys.

      Iran Denies US Charges

Mahmoud is denying that Iran supplied Iraqi terrorists with bombs used to kill US soldiers and civilians. Didn't he also claim Iran cured AIDs? I don't think killing all of the homosexuals counts as a cure, Mahmoud, nor do I believe Iran over US intelligence.

However, expect liberals to side with Mahmoud now that he's denied it. After all, we're the corporate, military-industrial complex that's blowing up civilians in Iraq...

Whites Impervious To Bullets, Blacks Are Not...

Good news from Barack's wife, Michelle. Apparently white people are impervious to bullets:

The heavy presence of security around Obama was also a silent reminder of the change that took place with the announcement. Michelle Obama, the candidate’s wife, acknowledged it in an interview to air on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” in which she was asked if she fears for her husband’s life as a black candidate.

“I don’t lose sleep over it because the realities are that . . . as a black man . . . Barack can get shot going to the gas station,” Michelle Obama said in the interview...
      Hot Air has the video.

One Hot Air commenter dares to delve into the realm of crime statistics:
Yes he may and statistically it would probably be by another black man.
That comment would make a liberal very mad. Leading me to wonder; why is Michelle Obama allowed to racially stereotype, but we're not? The only difference is that the above comment is based in fact, Michelle Obama's is based in crazy.

      Rock The Casbah

Time for the first official instalment in my "Conservative Songs" series, "Rock The Casbah," by: The Clash. Take it Islamists!

      Here're the lyrics:

Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin to the top
The sheik he drove his cadillac
He went a cruisnin down the ville
      The muezzin was a standing
      On the radiator grille

      Chorus:
      The shareef dont like it
      Rockin the casbah
      Rock the casbah
      The shareef dont like it
      Rockin the casbah
      Rock the casbah

      By order of the prophet
      We ban that boogie sound
      Degenerate the faithful
      With that crazy casbah sound
But the bedouin they brought out
      The electric camel drum
      The local guitar picker
      Got his guitar picking thumb
      As soon as the shareef
      Had cleared the square
      They began to wail

      Chorus

      Now over at the temple
Oh! they really pack em in
The in crowd say its cool
      To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
      The temple band took five
      The crowd caught a wiff
      Of that crazy casbah jive

      Chorus

The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
      Down the casbah way

As soon as the shareef was
      Chauffeured outta there
      The jet pilots tuned to
      The cockpit radio blare

As soon as the shareef was
      Outta their hair
      The jet pilots wailed

      Chorus

      He thinks its not kosher
      Fundamentally he cant take it.
You know he really hates it.

I Guess He Changed His Mind...

They almost all lie when asked about running for President, but it still boggles the mind. Obama in 2004 (hat tip: Hot Air):

      Obama Is Lincoln

More "Obama is Lincoln" news from the MSM, "Like Lincoln Before Him, Barack Obama Looks to Save the Union." This is getting sick, first Obama's the Messiah, now he's Lincoln incarnate?

A search for "Obama Lincoln" on Google News yields 2,403 results, where as a search for, say, "Tancredo" only yields 1,864 results.

Minimum Wage Causing AZ Unemployment Rise

What? Raising the minimum wage leads to higher unemployment? Why didn't anyone tell us?

Sometimes it's a burden to constantly be right, but somehow we conservatives survive. No surprise here: The Arizona Republic is reporting that teens across the state are being fired as employers are forced to cut spending due to recent increases in the minimum wage:

Oh, for the days when Arizona's high school students could roll pizza dough, sweep up sticky floors in theaters or scoop ice cream without worrying about ballot initiatives affecting their earning power.

That's certainly not the case under the state's new minimum-wage law that went into effect last month.

Some Valley employers, especially those in the food industry, say payroll budgets have risen so much that they're cutting hours, instituting hiring freezes and laying off employees.

      MSM Apparently Forgot Saddam/Osama Link

Curt over at Flopping Aces has a great post on the media's whitewash of the Saddam/Osama connection - how they talked about it before the War, how the Dems believed it, etc. He includes this video from 1999 (via Powerline), an "ABC news report which details all the connections between Saddam and Osama:"

Curt also compiles a little reminder of the Dems' prewar feelings on the Saddam/Osama connection:

We have solid reporting of senior-level contacts between Iraq and al-Qaida going back a decade.
      - George Tenet 2002

there was that relationship that went from opposing each other to not opposing each other to possibly working with each other.
      - Patrick Fitzgerald 2004

Certainly there's a connection between Iraq and al Qaeda
      - General Wesley Clarke 2002

In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.
      - Sen. Hillary Clinton 2002
Read the whole post; it has far more information than I could shamelessly steal.

      Iran: Killing Americans In Iraq

How do you not invade/decimate Iran after this?

High-tech roadside bombs that have proved particularly deadly to American soldiers are manufactured in Iran and delivered to Iraq on orders from the "highest levels" of the Iranian government, a senior intelligence officer said Sunday.
The NYT covered it yesterday in a story I haven't read yet.
The most lethal weapon directed against American troops in Iraq is an explosive-packed cylinder that United States intelligence asserts is being supplied by Iran.

The assertion of an Iranian role in supplying the device to Shiite militias reflects broad agreement among American intelligence agencies, although officials acknowledge that the picture is not entirely complete.

In interviews, civilian and military officials from a broad range of government agencies provided specific details to support what until now has been a more generally worded claim, in a new National Intelligence Estimate, that Iran is providing “lethal support” to Shiite militants in Iraq.

Cox and Forkum covered Iran killing our troops by proxy on January 31:

      Putin: Creating External Enemies

I've been ignoring all of the trash talk I've been seeing by Putin about the US in the headlines today, but with the Reuters headline "Putin Says U.S. Wants to Dominate World," something occurred to me.

I don't care what Putin thinks about the US; he's a thug, why should I? However, it was Natan Sharansky, in his book The Case For Democracy, who argued that tyrants in fear societies need to create external enemies to preoccupy the minds of their subjects. Venezuela, the USSR, practically everyone in the Middle East, China, and Cuba have used us as that external enemy for years. Is it possible Putin is just moving one step further down that road to dictatorship where he's creating external enemies to distract Russians from his corrupt government?

      Obama: Lincoln's Second Coming

Obama is already facing tough questions from the media. Oh, wait; no he's not. The same media that promoted unfounded rumors that GW did cocaine trying to get him thrown from office now puts a boyish spin on Obama's own cocaine use. Oh, he's such a regular guy! He's a minority, you know? Isn't that what they do?

Anyway, the Times UK had this hard-hitting, investigative report on Obama, titled "Obama Stakes His Claim To History:"

AS Barack Obama officially launched his campaign for president in Springfield, Illinois, the home town of Abraham Lincoln, his team was quietly beefing up his security. Mindful of the fate of the 19th-century president, who abolished slavery and was assassinated, friends say that new measures are being taken to ensure Obama’s protection on the campaign trail.

At the Old State Capitol building, comparisons with the gaunt, top-hatted president were inescapable. Springfield is where Obama, like Lincoln, served for eight years as a state legislator before entering national politics.

Thousands of eager spectators thronged the square in freezing temperatures waving Obama ’08 banners as he stepped on the stage and hugged his wife and young daughters, who were bundled up in hats and scarves.

Setting out what is likely to be his signature theme, he urged Americans: “Let’s be the generation” for change. “I know it’s a little chilly, but I’m fired up.”

Oh, yeah, Obama's just like Lincoln! Only Lincoln had political experience, was a uniter, not a divider, never did cocaine, and probably wouldn't have supported every form of abortion imaginable.

      Note, 2:15 pm Feb 11, Rutheford -

Lincoln wasn't really a uniter. He in fact led the country into and through it's most divisive period - the war between the states. Lincoln was a polarizing figure who made half of the country hate him because he stood for something, even though it wasn't politically popular. Obama on the other hand is a hack who will say and do anything to get elected.

      'Whatever It Takes'

The New Yorker has a pretty good article on "the politics of the man behind 24." I read the first half. As you may have guessed, he's Conservative (friends with Rush Limbaugh, in fact):

Surnow[co-creator and executive pruducer of 24], who has jokingly called himself a “right-wing nut job,” shares his show’s hard-line perspective. Speaking of torture, he said, “Isn’t it obvious that if there was a nuke in New York City that was about to blow—or any other city in this country—that, even if you were going to go to jail, it would be the right thing to do?”
The article's good readin' for fans of the series.

      No More Taxes, Smaller Government

Here's a Constitutional amendment I could support: Representatives Ronald Paul (R, TX) and Jeff Miller (R, FL) have introduced a bill that would amend the Constitution to forbid "personal income, estate, and gift taxes" and to prohibit "the United States Government from engaging in business in competition with its citizens."

What a great bill. Will it ever happen? Not in our lifetime, and not with a lib House. The bill is currently heading to the House Judiciary Committee for review where John Conyers will laugh and rip it to shreds.

      Obvious Headline of the Day

"Sen. Barak Obama Announces His Candidacy for President." I'm sure we were all wondering if he'd do it; I mean, he could have gone either way. Right....

Anyway, after his announcement yesterday that he'd be making an announcement today, Barack has announced he'll be running for President.

      Global Cooling! That's So 1975!

Jawa has this 1975 Newsweek article on the dangers of "global cooling." I saw a video a while ago where Dennis Miller brought a copy of this on the Tonight Show, or something, but of course it was removed from Youtube (which has a strict "no conservatives" policy). My favorite part: when it suggests that one solution to "global cooling" might be to melt the ice caps by covering them in black soot.

      Who Farted?

Two of my favorite things in one video; flatulence and 24. The look on the late Curtis Mannings' face just lends itself well to fart jokes:

      Giuliani Begins Shift Rightward

The NYT had this to say about Giuliani shifting his abortion rhetoric to the right (try to ignore the NYT's pompous, elitist sneers):

As he prepares for a possible run for president — a road that goes deep into the heart of conservative America — Rudolph W. Giuliani takes with him a belief in abortion rights that many think could derail his bid to capture the Republican nomination.

But in recent weeks, as he has courted voters in South Carolina and talked to conservative media outlets, Mr. Giuliani has highlighted a different element of his thinking on the abortion debate. He has talked about how he would appoint “strict constructionist” judges to the Supreme Court — what abortion rights advocates say is code among conservatives for those who seek to overturn or limit Roe v. Wade, the 1973 court ruling declaring a constitutional right to abortion.
All I can say is that I hope it's true. We're talking about a guy who actually has a good shot at handily defeating any Democrat opponent, and unfortunately he is extremely to the Left on abortion (once saying that, "hypothetically," he'd pay for his own daughter's abortion if she asked him).

      NYC Nuke Detectors

      CNN reports:

New York City will be protected by a ring of devices to detect nuclear or dirty bombs before the end of the year, the Department of Homeland Security said Friday.
I think they just need to invest in some Jack Bauer types. But seriously, couldn't terrorists just fly the nukes in via small planes from nearby airports?

Barrack Obama Announces Intention To Make An Announcement

Barrack Obama has announced his intention to make an announcement on Saturday. I'm not kidding. Watch the video here.

Anyway, guess what that announcement might be? It's incredibly obvious, not just from common sense, but also from his pre-announcement announcement, that he'll be announcing that he's running for President.

FYI: I said "announcement," or some form of the word, seven times in this post.

      ***Update, 02/10/07, 9:23pm***

Here's the video, so you don't have to visit the creep's website:

Video Of Downed US Military Helicopter

Here's a video that al Qaida claims is them shooting down a US military helicopter, in which all 7 crew members were killed. However, according to the AP, "The U.S. military has said it did not believe the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter was shot down in the crash Wednesday northwest of Baghdad."

I agree with one Youtube poster: "I can also film some flying object, then film some smoke and say it is a downed space shuttle... without seeing the actual hit.. I do not believe it..."

Regardless of how the chopper was downed, my prayers go out to the soldiers killed and their families and friends.
