UN Security Council Resolution Overview

Reports Fox News:

The U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution Friday that calls for an end to the war between Israel and Hezbollah, and authorizes 15,000 U.N. peacekeepers to help Lebanese troops take control of south Lebanon as Israel withdraws.

And Israel is pleased about that, not being allowed to keep a troop presence in southern Lebanon. Who's going to stop Hezbollah, the UN? Yeah right! Olmert's early reaction from Haaretz.com:

A cease-fire deal being worked out by the Security Council fails to meet Israel's basic requirements , such as stationing robust international combat troops in southern Lebanon once Israel withdraws, Shariv said.

"Yesterday we were very optimistic, but they (the Security Council) took the wrong turn ," Shariv said.

But, back to the Fox story:

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert endorsed the resolution late Friday, after a day of brinksmanship including a threat to expand the ground war. Lebanon's Cabinet was to consider the draft on Saturday, but Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the Lebanese government assured her that it supported the text.

The first sign that the cease-fire is flawed is that the French and the Lebanese support it.

The story also has a little joke from Kofi:

With tough language in remarks before the vote, Annan said hundreds of millions of people around the world shared his frustration that the council had taken so long to act. That inaction has "badly shaken the world's faith in its authority and integrity ," he said.

Or maybe their complete ineptitude and policies of appeasement made the Security Council and the UN a joke years ago. What authority and integrity does the UN have left? The story goes on:

Although the draft resolution emphasizes the need for the "unconditional release" of the two Israeli soldiers whose July 12 capture by Hezbollah sparked the conflict, that call is not included in the list of steps required for a lasting cease-fire.

If Hezbollah doesn't release the two captured Israeli soldiers, than what can Israel say it has accomplished with this war (assuming they agree to this cease-fire)? They haven't destroyed Hezbollah, meaning attacks certainly won't cease. They haven't gotten their wish of an Israeli "buffer-zone" in southern Lebanon (which would have done little more than move the front, anyway). The only way to stop terrorism is to kill all of the terrorists. And another joke:

The political solution would include implementation of previous Security Council resolutions calling for Hezbollah's disarmament.

Hmm, resolutions that, like all UN resolutions ordering around evil terrorists and dictators, were ignored completely? Why would Hezbollah listen to them now?

Two Ohio Men Held On Terror Charges [Update]

An update on our earlier post, "Two Ohio Men Held On Terror Charges."

WXYZ.com has info on further charges for the two young, Muslim, Arab men:

A second charged was added for the two Dearborn men who were arrested in Ohio and charged money laundering to support terrorism. Thursday, prosecutors charged 20-year-old Ali Houssaiky and 20-year-old Osma Sabhi Abulhassan with soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism. Police said the men initially lied, but then under interrogation admitted to buying 600 untraceable cell phones. Authorities are concerned that if shipped to the Middle East, the chips from the phones may be used to remotely detonate car bombs.

And I guess this news is supposed to calm us, their excuse why they had information on domestic flights:

According to Ali's brother, Mohamad Houssaiky, the car the two men were in belongs to Ali's mother who works for Aircraft Service International Group at Metro Airport and the paper work reportedly belonged to her. She was training so she had to do a training list with the bookings and checkings for passengers , he said.

So two men who have been charged with laundering money and funneling it to terrorists, had maps of Wall Marts in three states, and were buying up cell phones by the hundreds (possibly the thousands) to send to the Middle East as components for bombs have a relative who works at the airport? Anyone see the problem here?

Political correctness has created an atmosphere where an airport would hire a Muslim without doing any investigating into their possible ties to what are apparently "radical" Muslims (I guess a "moderate" Muslim is one who believes infidels should be beheaded, but wouldn't do it themselves).

Religious Belifes Lessen Post-Op Stress

More bad news for all you atheists and agnostics out there (aka, "liberals"). According to a new study, "Religious Beliefs May Lessen Post-Op Stress ." Reports Fox:

When people go through a stressful medical event, their religious beliefs may help or hinder them psychologically, a new study shows.

The study shows less distress after heart surgery in people who lean on faith for comfort and support than those who feel spiritually angry or doubtful.

All that, and you go to Hell, too!

Olmert Gives Orders To Expand Ground Operations In Lebanon

Olmert has given orders to expand ground operations in Lebanon. Reports Haaretz.com:

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said late Friday that the expanded incursion into Lebanon would continue "for the time being," despite agreeing to a cease-fire resolution drafted by the United Nations Security Council.

Senior Israel Defense Forces officers said that the IDF is "continuing forward at full power," and that all forces slated to take part in the expanded incursion have already assumed forward positions in the field...

A government source in Jerusalem said the IDF received instructions to proceed with the operation after officials viewed an updated version of the draft resolution Friday, which included several points from which Lebanon backtracked, one day after agreeing to them as spelled out in Thursday's draft.

The source said that Israel agreed to a 48-hour lull in order to exhaust diplomatic efforts, it became clear that progress towards a cease-fire was not as significant as thought Thursday.

So Lebanon decides not to follow the UN resolution they signed and made ridiculous requests, making a cease-fire improbable, and yet the media will no doubt be painting Israel as an aggressor ignoring the UN to blow up civilians. Isn't that how it always works with the UN and the mainstream media? That's why it's best to just ignore them both.

The story continues:

A cease-fire deal being worked out by the Security Council fails to meet Israel's basic requirements , such as stationing robust international combat troops in southern Lebanon once Israel withdraws, Shariv said.

"Yesterday we were very optimistic, but they (the Security Council) took the wrong turn ," Shariv said.

Why should the UN do anything to benefit Israel? They hate Israel. The UN's job is to prevent war throughout the world but they've become such a joke that the bad guys ignore them and they punish the good guys with a strategy of appeasement.

US More Skeptical Of Evolution Than Europe, Japan

Fox Headline: "U.S. Lags Behind Europe, Japan in Acceptance of Evolution." Good. Raise your hand if you want to be more like Europe (put down your hand, liberal, I wasn't talking to you!)

I guess this shows that, unlike Europe and Japan, Americans aren't willing to be sheep and accept a flawed philosophy with weak support just to avoid being ostracised (and yes, it's gotten to the point in America where you are ostracised for not believing in evolution).

Name Change!

I know, this is our third name change. I'm sorry. The first one was taken, and after about a month I decided to change the second one. It's not that I didn't like ConfederateBlogger, it's just I'm not a Southerner, nor is any of my family or friends, so I kind of felt like a poser. I chose the name because of its state's rights implications, with the help of a "conservative buzz words" list I had made. Thinking of a name is the hardest part of running a blog.

The new name, Unrest In The Forest, is a reference to the excellent song "The Trees," by the libertarian group, Rush. I think they are some great conservative lyrics. Here they are:

There is unrest in the forest ,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

So, the new address is UnrestInTheForest.BlogSpot.com , and the new title is Unrest In The Forest, or UITF. I think I'll keep the email address, located in the sidebar (to the left).

We'll be working on a new logo and what-not.

***Update, 01/18/07, 12:10am***

Wow, an update six months later... Anyway, I just know thought to look for video of "The Trees" by Rush, and here it is!

They truly are superb artists.

Chavez: "Let's Pray To God For Fidel..."

Hugo Chavez:

"From here, let's pray to God for Fidel and his recovery, and he's fighting a great battle."

I'm praying to God, but it's not for Fidel to live. On that note, I wonder how Fidel the evil communist would feel about Chavez's call to prayer, something communism is inherently opposed to?

Republicans Running From Bush? Not Really

The lefties over at Daily Kos seem to think they've caught Republicans running away from that unpopular Bush. Their proof; the Michigan Republican party has replaced the banner on their website, from one showing Bush to one showing all of their candidates in the upcoming election.

Original banner:

New Banner:

They seem to find it very funny, but in what way is this unusual? Since 2004, when Bush was up for re-election, they've had a picture of him on their homepage. Now that 2006 is fast approaching, they've replaced him with their candidates for Governor, senate, secretary of state, and state attorney general. Funny? Not really. Odd? Not really. Way to go, Kos.

Racial Profiling, UK Terror Recap, And Suspects' Names

AllahPundit has a great UK terror recap post going over at Hot Air.

Also, 19 of the 24 men arrested in the UK terror plots names have been released. They are as follows:

Umir Hussain, 24, London E14

Muhammed Usman Saddique, 24, London E17

Waheed Zaman, 22, London E17

Assan Abdullah Khan, 22, London E17

Waseem Kayani, 28, High Wycombe

Waheed Arafat Khan, 24, London E17

Cossor Ali, 24, London E17

Tayib Rauf, 21, Birmingham

Ibrahim Savant, 26, London E17

Osman Adam Khatib, 20, London E17

Shamin Mohammed Uddin, 36, Stoke Newington

Amin Asmin Tariq, 23, London E17

Shazad Khuram Ali, 27, High Wycombe

Tanvir Hussain, 24, London E10

Umar Islam, 28, (born Brian Young) High Wycombe

Assad Sarwar, 25, High Wycombe

Abdullah Ali, 26, London E17

Abdul Muneem Patel, 17, London E5

Nabeel Hussain, 21, Waltham Forest

Notice a pattern? All young, Muslim men. Says Boortz:

The Brits have identified 19   of the Islamic terrorists who had been plotting to blow up as many as ten airliners over the Atlantic ocean. Let's see now: What do we have here!    Why ... and I hope you're sitting down here, because this is certainly very   shocking --- every one of the 19 people who have been arrested thus far were men.  They were all younger men, anywhere from 17 to 35 years old. Oh ... and every one of them had a Muslim name...

What else stands out here?  Well, there were no 78-year-old blue-haired grannies on the list. There were no families traveling with children. There were no young mothers with children in tow.

A good point. With names like "Hussain," "Mohammed," "Islam," and "Arafat" one would think it wouldn't be too hard to pick these guys out on a plane. But we wouldn't want to hurt some guy's feelings just because he's named "Osama," even if there is a chance he and his friends are going to blow up 10 packed comercial airplanes.

Pakistan, US, And UK Intelligence Helped Stop UK Terror Plot

Many lefties, including those over at Daily Kos, had a lot to say about the terrorists involved in the UK terror plot being from Pakistan. Said one Kos blogger:

...Pakistan is the source of Islamist terror and now that we've seen yet another instance of Pakistan-related or Pakistan-trained terrorists attempting to attack us, maybe it is about time we moved our focus away from Iraq--which, once again, had nothing to do with a major terrorist attempt--and focused on the actual problem.

I guess these leftists don't feel the need to mention that Pakistan helped break this case, along with some help from US intelligence. Reports Fox News:

British authorities arrested 24 people based partly on intelligence from Pakistan, where authorities detained up to three others several days earlier. The suspects were believed to be mainly British Muslims, at least some of Pakistani ancestry...

A U.S. congressman briefed by intelligence officials, who did not want to be identified because of the sensitivity of the investigation, said U.S. intelligence had intercepted terrorist chatter and British intelligence helped thwart the plot through undercover work.

Hmm, US intelligence "intercepted terrorist chatter?" I wonder if that had anything to do with certain programs that liberals fight tooth-and-nail against? I wonder if the ACLU will get these terrorist free from all charges since they may have been arrested based on warrantless wire taps?

Don't let lefties trick you into thinking they'd do anything to stop terrorism. "...Maybe it is about time we moved our focus away from Iraq--which, once again, had nothing to do with a major terrorist attempt--and focused on the actual problem." Whatever that means, it sure isn't "we should invade Pakistan." Liberals are against all wars when there isn't a sex-scandal to distract from. They wouldn't invade Pakistan any sooner than they'd invade Iraq. But then, since most of them authorized the invasion of Iraq...

UK Terrorist Group Was Infiltrated By British Agent

Fox News has the number of suspects arrested in the UK terror plot now at 24, rather than the 21 previously reported. They also report that:

The plot was foiled when an undercover British agent infiltrated the UK-based group, and passed information to authorities, FOX News has learned...

Meanwhile, the DHS raised the terror alert level for commercial flights from Britain to the U.S. to code-red. It's the first time the U.S. has raised the alert level to its maximum since the system was instituted in March 2002. Chertoff said the decision to raise the alert level was made after British officials bumped their terror alert level to their highest.

Lieberman On Cut-And-Runners And The UK Terror Plot

Sen. Lieberman:

If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again.

Lefties Respond To UK Terror Plot

Lefties react to the UK terror plot on Democraticunderground.com:

Ain't  this the biggest CO-INKEDINK ? BE VERY AFRAID! VOTE REP !

Have to keep the Sheep Afraid.

who needs evidence when the sheep will bleat on command...?

indeed, they are: no Lamont win mention today-GOP in Danger Alert Mode

Anti war candidate defeats a major Bush supporter - next day, a terror plot is thwarted.

That's great timing.

If they can overreact to every little thing, they'll keep their authoritarian followers in line (and maybe get a few more). It's the politics of FEAR, get used to it.

Unbelieveable, and they wonder why America doesn't take them seriously?

Three Involved In UK Terror Plot Identified

Reports ABC News:

Three of the alleged ringleaders of the foiled airplane bomb plot have been identified by Western intelligence agencies involved in unraveling the plot.

Two of them are believed to have recently traveled to Pakistan and were later in receipt of money wired to them from Pakistan, reportedly to purchase tickets for the suicide bombers.

Sources identify the three, who are now in custody, as:

--Rashid Rauf
--Mohammed al-Ghandra
--Ahmed al Khan

Again, with the "Mohammed..."

Liberals Are Still On The Terrorists' Team

By: Shane

One would think that the recently foiled terror plot in the UK would turn the opinion of all of those who oppose fighting Islamic terrorists around the globe. The recent foiled plot in the UK is only one of a number of recent terror related events; we had the Egyptian students visiting on student visas who have gone missing, we have the two Ohio men (both Arab Muslims) arrested with thousands in cash, flight manifests, maps of Wall Marts throughout three states, and disposable cell phones, and now we have dozens of Muslims arrested in the UK with the intention of blowing up ten or so airplanes, mid-flight.

However, all of this has done very little to change the minds of radical lefties who are too opposed to anything that could be seen as anti-Muslim, pro-Bush to come to the sensible conclusion that, as President Bush said, "...this nation is at war with Islamic Fascists. " One liberal blogger posted his feelings about news of the UK terror plots, saying, "the first thought I had upon reading about a terror plot to blow up 10 or so in-flight planes was: Is this a genuine plot, or is it the Bush admin dictating yet another 'Oh wow, this is serious. Honest. No, really, this time, we mean it. Swear to God.'" This liberal has been so blinded by his own demagoguery that he has come to believe the Bush administration would lie about a terror plot.

I'll admit, it is very odd that the terrorist seem to wait until around election cycles to remind everyone that there is still an Islamic threat out there. It would far better serve their goals to not remind everyone to vote for Republicans, who want to defend the country, rather than Democrats, who want to appease Islamic Fascists. Of course, they probably assume that we'll act cowardly like the Spanish did and elect a cut-and-runner after a terror attack. Unfortunately for them, we're not the Spanish, and we're not cowards.

Well, I should clarify; the majority of Americans, conservative Americans, are not cowards. That's more than I can say for our liberal counterparts, who seem to be willing to do anything to avoid fighting Islamic terrorism "in Baghdad rather than Baltimore," as the saying goes, including outing 18-year incumbent Democrat Joe Lieberman, who voted with the Democrats more than 90% of the time, but made the fatal error of supporting the war on terror - an unforgivable sin in the lefties' eyes.

Liberals everywhere are denying the importance of the thwarted UK terror plot. After all, let's concentrate on what's really important; faked Israeli war crimes! The lefties are also harping that this is all Bush's fault. Says another blogger over at Daily Kos, "Today, we can see again what Britain gets for being a staunch ally of Bush. They get home-grown terrorists, bombings, and more terrorist plots." Once again, the libs revert back to their strategy of appeasement: If the British had left the terrorists alone, then they would be attacking Israel and the US, not the UK! And who do you think they'll attack after they've finished killing all of the Americans and the Jews? Anyone who opposes living under Islamic Fascist rule, which I think would probably include most of the UK.

Liberals have already done their best to cripple law enforcement in their constant hunt for terrorists. They have shot down legislation, claiming it infringes on Constitutional rights that don't even exist. They have attacked policies that they say would "hurt someones feelings." For liberals, political correctness is king. Racial quotas are fine, but racial profiling isn't? More than 20 people have been arrested in connection with the UK terror plots, chances are they were all Muslims.

One sure way to stop the five, possibly ten, who are still on the loose from carrying out terrorist attacks would be to search all Arab men boarding planes. Instead, they're searching everyone, banning carry-on luggage, and banning all liquids. Mothers are being made to drink their baby formula before taking it on a plane, and all so we don't hurt any one's feelings. Political correctness is winning out over common sense; as one author said, "Why search for the needle in the entire barn when you know it's in the hay stack?"

Liberals will never believe in the war on terrorism. They see it as a flawed ideology. They can not go along with it since they lack a belief in right and wrong, good and evil. The recent UK terror plot is nothing more to the lefties than a tactic by the Bush administration to scare Americans. It is not significant to them that almost every major terrorist attack in the last few decades has been carried out by Muslims, just a coincidence. If anything, the left's response to the foiled UK terror plot should serve as a reminder to Americans why they shouldn't give their votes to liberals in November; because liberals will do everything they can to help terrorists destroy America.

Hillary Clinton Bust Revealed At "Museum Of Sex"

Reports Reuters:

A "Presidential Bust" of U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton was unveiled on Wednesday at New York's Museum of Sex, where sculptor Daniel Edwards hopes it will spark discussion about sex, politics and celebrity.

Edwards, the artist who also created a life-size nude of Britney Spears giving birth on a bear-skin rug, said he wanted to capture Clinton's age and femininity in the sculpture .

There's a picture, but I wouldn't look if you have a weak stomach.

Liberal Bloggers Denying UK Terror Plot

From the liberal blog Daily Kos (Hat tip LGF):

OK, this is how suspicious I've become. With tin-foil hat firmly in the desk drawer, the first thought I had upon reading about a terror plot to blow up 10 or so in-flight planes was: Is this a genuine plot, or is it the Bush admin dictating yet another "Oh wow, this is serious. Honest. No, really, this time, we mean it. Swear to God."

The results of this blogger's poll shows how far from reality many lefties are: see the results.

Slow Posting Yesterday

Although today clearly isn't a slow news day, I'd like to apologize for the small amount of posts yesterday, I had a physical.

Bush: "This Nation Is At War With Islamic Fascists"

From Fox News:

"The recent arrests that our fellow citizens are now learning about are a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation," Bush said on a tarmac in Green Bay, Wis., before delivering a speech on the economy.

I think only liberals will be shocked to hear this.

Up To 10 Still At Large In UK Terror Plot

Reports Sky News:

Police are said to be urgently hunting up to 10 bomb suspects thought to be involved in a plot to cause "mass murder on an unimaginable scale" by blowing up UK flights heading to the US this week.

Some 24 people have been arrested over the alleged plot but American television reports say at least five people - possibly up to 10 - are still at large.

Chilling.

One wonders how hard it would be to just check every Arab who tries to board a plane? I mean, as far as we know, all of the 24 known to have been involved so far were Arabs. It would save everyone a lot of time and money, and would pretty much guarantee the terrorist wouldn't be getting on board a plane. Oh, that's right, we don't want to hurt any one's feelings!

Major UK Terror Plot Foiled, "Mass Murder On An Unimaginable Scale"

Reports TheStar.com:

Britain was plunged into a full-scale terror alert today after police foiled a plot to blow up passenger jets headed for the United States.

In a bid to prevent attacks, anti-terrorist police squads carried out simultaneous pre-dawn raids in both London and Birmingham and arrested at least 21 people.

Early news reports in the U.K. singled out Continental, American and United airlines as the targeted carriers for the waves of simultaneous attacks, 10 of which were allegedly planned in total.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the terrorists planned to use liquid explosives disguised as beverages and other common products and detonators disguised as electronic devices.

In response, many world airports - including those in Canada - banned carry-on luggage and all liquids save baby formula.

Here's a picture of signs posted in many airports banning liquids.

This will no doubt make travel by air far more hellish as "...international passengers would still face delays and a ban on cabin baggage 'for the foreseeable future.'"

The deputy commissioner at Scotland Yard, Paul Stephenson, went even further, saying that the plans amounted to "mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

And to show that political correctness still reigns supreme:

It is believed that most of the terror suspects were British citizens. Police said they contacted Muslim community leaders in the early morning hours to warn them of the operation underway – a clear indication that the suspects are believed to be somehow linked to Al Qaeda.

Yeah, that seems like a great idea, considering these attacks were probably planned within the British Muslim community, the British Muslim community in which 1 in 4 believe the terror attacks of 7/7 were justified, by-the-way.

The story continues:

British authorities only began publishing the perceived risk of a terror threat last month – a year after London's transportation system was targeted by suicide bombers who killed 52 commuters - and yesterday raised the alert to critical [in the UK], the highest possible level. That effectively means that police consider the country to be under attack.

Reid said police believe they have arrested the "main" characters involved in the bomb plot, but did not rule out the possibility of accomplices still being at large .

While British officials declined to publicly identify the 21 suspects, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said in Paris that they "appear to be of Pakistani origin." He did not give a source for his description, but said French officials had been in close contact with British authorities.

The suspects were "homegrown," though it was not immediately clear if they were all British citizens , said a British police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. Police were working closely with the South Asian community, the official said.

The suicide bombing assault on London subway trains and a bus on July 7, 2005, was carried out by Muslim extremists who grew up in Britain.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is on vacation in Barbados and reportedly phoned U.S. President George W. Bush overnight to tell him about the terror sweep that was underway.

Two Ohio Men Held On Terror Charges

Reports Fox News:

Two men were charged Wednesday with money laundering in support of terrorism after authorities said they found airplane passenger lists and information on airport security checkpoints in their car.

Deputies stopped Osama Sabhi Abulhassan, 20, and Ali Houssaiky, 20, both of Dearborn, Mich., on a traffic violation Tuesday. They found the flight documents along with $11,000 cash and 12 phones in the car, said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.

Prosecutor Susan Vessels declined to say how the phones, cash or flight information involved terrorism.

Abulhassan and Houssaiky admitted buying about 600 phones in recent months at stores in southeast Ohio, said sheriff's Maj. John Winstanley. The men said they sold the phones to someone in Dearborn, a Detroit suburb.

Investigators going through the car after the pair were pulled over in Marietta, about 90 miles southeast of Columbus, also found a map that showed locations of Wal-Mart stores from Ohio through Kentucky, Tennessee and into North and South Carolina, Vessels said.

First of all, I'd like to commend the police who had the bravery to accuse to Arab men of terror related activities; something that must be very difficult in America's stiflingly politically correct atmosphere.

Also, the guy's name was "Osama?" Come on! Is that a joke?

You'll notice the men sold hundreds of cell phones to someone in Dearborn, MI, which the article fails to mention has one of America's largest populations of Muslims.

Looks like a close call, and very chilling given what's happening in the UK right now (which I'm about to post on).

Terror Alert Level: "Severe, High, And Elevated"

Everyday when I sign online one of the first things I see is the terror alert level on my Google homepage. Today, for the first time in a long time, it was at something other than "elevated". For all flights from the UK, the terror alert level is at its highest; "severe," for all commercial flights in general it is at its second highest level; "high," and for everything else it is still in the middle; "elevated."

Lieberman Loses Primary, Will Run As Independent

Well, Lieberman has lost his primary against a liberal cut-and-runner. I've heard it said that this is Carl Roves dream; the Democrats have rejected a trusted, well-known, liked, centrist, pro-war Democrat for a kooky leftist, loved by the most radical factions of the Democratic party. Let's see him get elected.

Lieberman will be running as an independent.

Sheehan Thinks Killing Americans Is "Harrowing"

LGF posts this excerpt from a post Cindy Sheehan made on the ubber-liberal blog, Daily Kos:

Every single person that we met with has been dreadfully affected by the American invasion and occupation of Iraq. One Sheik that we met with had his door broken down and he was beaten and dragged off to prison while the soldiers abused his wife. All of this while his teen-age son watched. The Sheik was tortured extensively and has still not recovered from his injuries. I apologized to him on behalf of human beings who abhor torture and abuse by one human to another and he told us a harrowing story: his son's dream is to buy a high powered rifle and shoot every American he can before he is killed. After speaking to us, he is sure that he can talk his son out of it, because he will assure him that there are Americans who care. I think if my son saw his dad being tortured and his mom sexually abused by an occupying force, he would probably have the same reaction. After meeting with the Iraqis and talking to other people from the Middle East, trust me, we are not winning hearts and minds!

Lovely. Liberal-kook.

Reuters Recap

Just to recap on the faked Reuters photos:

First we had the staged massacre in Qana.

Then we had the edited photo showing a city spewing smoke.

Then we had the plane that was edited so it looked like it was dropping more flares (which I never even bothered covering).

Then we had two photos claiming the same building was flattened weeks apart (which I also never covered).

Some where in there was "the unluckiest multiple home-owner in Beirut."

And now we have a series of photos of a bombed bridge that just don't add up.

Malkin wraps it all up in her video blog on youtube, talking about the "Reuterization" of war.

Well, I'm just brimming with confidence in the mainstream media now!

More Faked Reuters Photos

Power line has yet another series of faked photos from Reuters.

Kos Shows Us Liberals' Wonderful Understanding Of Economics

Reports the ultra-liberal blog Daily Kos:

Alaska oil production will be severely curtailed as BP investigates pipeline problems.

In the world of Big Oil, this is cause for celebration. While supplies shouldn't be affected (the outage is 2.6 percent of American daily consumption and reserves are high), it'll give oil companies another excuse to jack up prices and continue on its record gouging of American consumers.

I guess these liberals don't realize that a damaged pipeline A) cost money to fix, B) worries investors and loses oil companies money, and C) as they mentioned, curbs the flow of oil, if only slightly. These are all factors that cost the oil company money, and raising prices to cover the difference doesn't make them evil price-gougers, it makes them a responsible business.

Poll: Half Of Americans Believe Saddam Possessed WMD Before Invasion

A new poll shows that half of Americans believe that Iraq possessed WMD when the US first invaded. The story, from the Denver Post, of course says that the reason is not growing proof that they did, but:

...a drumbeat of voices including talk radio, bloggers and the Oval Office, a surprise headline here or there, a rallying around a partisan flag, and a need for people to justify the war in Iraq.

People tend to become "independent of reality" in these circumstances, says opinion analyst Steven Kull.

That's right, the elitist left can believe that half of the nation is stupid enough to be duped by Karl Rove, I mean, some one had to vote for GW.

The real reason behind the poll numbers is the growing heap of evidence that Iraq in fact did posses WMD before the invasion. Says Boortz:

...here is a list of the weapons of mass destruction that have been found in Iraq since Operation Iraqi Freedom began:
  1. A 155-millimeter artillery round containing Sarin nerve agent was found, which is a weapon of mass destruction.

  2. U.S. military units have discovered mustard gas that was used in an IED, or improvised explosive device. Mustard gas is a weapon of mass destruction.

  3. In all, some 500 weapons containing mustard gas or Sarin nerve agent have been found in Iraq since the invasion. Again, both of these are weapons of mass destruction.

A colleague of mine, Michael, wrote an excellent article (and a long one) at our now closed blog NeoConReview titled " WMDs and Iraq" which lays out the case that Saddam had WMD and either hid or moved them (we have found many of them).

Michael also lists some of the WMD agents we have found:

Found: 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium

Found: 1,500 gallons of chemical weapons

Found: Roadside bomb loaded with sarin gas

Found: 1,000 radioactive materials--ideal for radioactive dirty bombs

Found: 17 chemical warheads--some containing cyclosarin, a nerve agent five times more powerful than sarin

Reuters' Terrorist Propaganda

Apparently Reuters is at it again, faking photos to further their liberal agenda. This time, rather than staging the scene of a massacre, a Reuters reporter has doctored a photo to make a city in Lebanon appear to be spewing far more smoke than it is: here are the pictures - the original is on top, the faked one Reuters released is on the bottom.

Robert at Jihad Watch says:

How many other photos and stories has Reuters altered to in order to further the aims of the global jihad?

Just one more reason on a growing list to distrust the mainstream media.

Hezbollah Responds To US-French Truce Proposal By Killing 15 Israelis

Just in case you were wondering how terrorists respond to diplomatic "solutions," reports AP:

A defiant Hezbollah fired its deadliest rocket barrage of the war Sunday after  taking no heed of a U.S.-French truce proposal, killing 15 Israelis, among them  12 soldiers heading for battle in Lebanon, and pounding Israel's third largest  city, Haifa.

Three Israeli civilians were killed and dozens wounded in  the attack on Haifa. Flames shot from damaged homes as firefighters tried to  rescue panicked residents.

The only way to deal with Islamic terrorists is to kill them.

Governors Oppose Bush's National Guard Plan

Reports Fox News:

The nation's governors are closing ranks in opposition to a proposal in Congress that would let the president take control of the National Guard in emergencies without consent of governors.

The idea, spurred by the destruction and chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina's landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi, is part of a House-passed version of the National Defense Authorization Act. It has not yet been agreed to by the Senate.

The measure would remove the currently required consent of governors for the federalization of the Guard, which is shared between the individual states and the federal government.

I think that Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC)  says it best:

"The idea of federalizing yet another function of government in America is a, the wrong direction, and b, counterproductive," Sanford said. "The system has worked quite well, notwithstanding what went wrong with Katrina."

One thing that always bothers me when conservatives oppose a Republican President trying to swell federal power is when liberals jump in and act like they care; they don't, they love a larger federal government, it reminds them of their buddies the Soviets.

Minimum Wage Update

Reports Chron.com:

The Senate late Thursday rejected, 56-42, a bill fusing the cut in estate taxes with a $2.10 increase over three years in the $5.15 minimum wage.

Seems like good news to me. Read when I first reported the bill or my article on minimum wage.

Republicans claim that Democrats blocked the bill only so that they can make this congress seem like a "do-nothing" congress, Democrats claimed they voted against it because they wanted to keep in place the estate tax (one of the main goals of communism, by the way, along with a graduated tax system and public education).

Either way, the American people dodged a bullet with this minimum wage bill. Let's hope Republicans get serious and don't try it again!

Clarification On Plan B

I'm facing some questions on my article claiming Plan B is just another abortion pill. Most people have the mind set that Plan B is a contraceptive, as has been repeated so many times in the media, and not an abortion pill. Says an article in yesterday's Honolulu Advisor, " [Plan B] is not effective in ending pregnancies, like the controversial RU-486, known as the 'abortion pill,' which is available only through a doctor's prescription."

The debate here is due to semantics, so let me clarify; those who oppose abortion believe life begins at conception, when sperm fertilizes an egg. If Plan B is taken once the egg has been fertilized, but it has not implanted in the womb, it can prevent implantation. This causes the fertilized egg to be expelled from the body, killing a newly formed life. This is, in every since of the word, an abortion. It is caused by Plan B, making Plan B just another abortion pill.

Plan B: Just Another Abortion Pill

By: Shane

With the possibility of the FDA approving the "morning after pill," or "Plan B" for over the counter sale, I find it important to point out that there is a debate to be made here. Liberals would have the American people think that Plan B is simply a contraceptive, meant to prevent conception, and that conservatives are just being moral bigots who want to force their religious beliefs on poor women in rural areas.

However, Plan B is not just a contraceptive, Plan B has every possibility of causing an abortion, and is therefore an abortion pill.

Liberals go on and on about how conservatives want to take away a woman's right to choose. However, in the Plan B debate, they say that conservatives are just being silly. Plan B isn't even an abortion pill! They say. One user on the liberal blog "The Daily Kos" elegantly stated, "...this fundamentalist bulls--t over Plan B ( which does not even cause an abortion) is of no surprise to me." Another said, "It needs to be screamed to the heavens that Plan B is not the abortion pill. It kills nothing. It harms nothing. No life is lost. It stops abortions. " (emphasis added).

This seems to be the predominant line of thinking among most liberals, that Plan B is not and abortion pill. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The FDA, in describing how Plan B works, noted that, "Plan B acts primarily by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). It may prevent the union of sperm and egg (fertilization). If fertilization does occur, Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb (implantation). If a fertilized egg is implanted prior to taking Plan B, Plan B will not work." (again, emphasis added).

It makes all the difference here that Plan B can prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. Abortion opponents believe that life begins at conception (when the sperm fertilizes the egg) not implantation. Therefore, stating that a fertilized egg is safe once it has implanted is pointless. What matters is the safety of that newly formed life, formed at fertilization, a life that can be ended by Plan B through the prevention of implantation.

Liberals have tried to separate the Plan B debate from the abortion debate by claiming that Plan B does not cause abortions. Unfortunately, this is not true. Many liberals may believe it is true - it has been restated so many times that it has become "conventional wisdom" - others may just be lying, knowing that the knowledge that Plan B can cause the death of an unborn child would greatly lower its chances of approval for over the counter sales.

It is important that the fact that Plan B is an abortion pill be part of the debate. As a conservative, I would argue against Plan B regardless with the standard "promotes promiscuity" debate. However, with the knowledge that Plan B is an abortion pill, the debate shifts from bettering American society, to saving lives. It also makes the issue one that much more of the public cares about. You won't find many people who want to talk about contraception, but abortion is an issue in which few people consider themselves "neutral."

Once the "conventional wisdom" that Plan B is not an abortion pill is done away with, liberals will have to revert from cheap shots about conservatives' "moral bigotry" to the hard task of defending abortion. Liberals have had too easy of a job in claiming that the "religious right" has been doing everything it can to prevent the FDA from allowing Plan B over the counter because they are prudes who don't want people having sex. The fact is that conservatives don't like unborn, helpless children being murdered, and defiantly don't want an easy, over the counter "solution" to pregnancy.

Many pharmacists are starting to come out and say that they would not be willing to hand out Plan B for "moral reasons". One liberal equated this with a vegan grocery store clerk being unwilling to sell meat. While this is a ridiculous argument, it does say something about the left's respect for human life. No doctor can be forced to perform an abortion, and no pharmacist should be forced to hand out a drug that could do the same. These pharmacists aren't making political statements about their beliefs on contraception, they're saying that they will take no part in the killing of an unborn infant. The knowledge that Plan B is an abortion pill clarifies this, and makes it harder for liberals to argue for laws saying that pharmacists and pharmacies should be forced to provide Plan B.

The facts show that Plan B is an abortion pill. It can, and sometimes does, prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg. This is a fact that has been lost from the debate, perhaps intentionally. Conservatives can not let this happen. It must be known and debated that Plan B is an abortion pill because the lives of millions of unborn children are on the line. If liberals want to debate abortion, that is fine. Lying about the facts, however, is not.

Why Haven't We Attacked Iran?

Reports The New York Sun:

Iran is racing to resupply Hezbollah across the Syrian border ahead of a possible cease-fire being ironed out this week at the United Nations. Meanwhile, Israeli jets have begun a new bombardment of Beirut's suburbs and Hezbollah is threatening to launch a missile attack on Tel Aviv.

Israeli military and intelligence officials here say Iranian technicians were aboard a flight to Damascus on Monday with the Iranian foreign minister , Manouchehr Mottaki.

The Israel Defense Forces also says it has not been able to seal the border between Syria and Lebanon, making it possible to ferry men, small rockets, and other materiel to Hezbollah through the back roads and smuggling routes in the Bekaa Valley.

What excuse do we have for not invading and destroying Iran? They are openly sponsoring terrorism, they defy the US and the World community, and they are working on building a nuclear arsenal (not to mention their horrible human right's record).

Maybe once Israel is done destroying Hezbollah they'll move on to Iran, in which case most of the non-free Arab countries will attack Israel, leaving the west little choice but to intervene.

Aparently The Solution Is To Love Your Children More

The Chairman of the Joint Cheifs of Staff echoed a familiar sentiment recently when he said "Shia and Sunni are going to have to love their children more than they hate each other" in response to fears that sectarian violence in Iraq may lead to a civil war.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel said a while back that there would be peace when "the Arabs decide they love their children more than they hate ours."

Just thought that repeated sentiment was worth noting.

Plan B: An Abortion Pill

With news that the FDA may approve the "morning after pill," also known as "Plan B," I find it important to note that this pill is not just a contraceptive.

Plan B is, in every since of the word, an abortion pill. From FoodConsumers.com:

The following are the common questions and answers cited from the FDA site regarding plan B, updated in 2004, but apparently still current. Also republished here is the July-31 news release by the FDA...

How Does Plan B Work?

...If fertilization does occur, Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb (implantation) ...

Allow me to translate the medical jargon used to mask the killing of a baby. If a Woman takes Plan B after the egg has already been fertilized by the sperm, aka conception, that point at which us pesky conservatives believe life begins, then Plan B will not allow the egg to implant in the womb, successfully killing the newly formed life. This is what is known as an abortion, and this pill is an abortion pill.

Keep that in mind the next time a liberal tries to convince you that Plan B is just a contraceptive.

News From Iran

TCV reports on some not so new rhetoric, still coming from Iranian President Ahmadinejad:

On Thursday, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke before an emergency meeting of Muslim leaders in Malaysia. Ahmadinejad told the group that the way to end the fighting in Lebanon was to "destroy Israel".

One could just as easily say that the way to end fighting in Lebanon would be to kill all Muslim terrorists there. In fact, I think I will. The way to end fighting in Lebanon is to allow Israel to kill all of the Muslim terrorists who have set up shop there.

I should point out again that Ahmadinejad sounds like a liberal college professor every time he calls for an end to "the Zionist threat." Just an observation.

In another story, TCV reports that Iran is releasing Osama Bin Laden's son from "protective custody" so that he can fight Israel:

The German newspaper Die Welt announced Thursday that one of terrorist Osama bin-Laden's sons, Saad bin-Laden, has been released by Iran to fight against Israel. Iran is said to have released Saad from Iran on 28 July.

Senior al-Qaeda terrorist leaders are said to be in Iran under "protective custody". Saad is said to have been chosen by his father as his successor in the 'war against the Western world and Israel'.

Saad is reported to have been dispatched to the Syria-Lebanon border, in order to establish, recruit and train new terror-cell members.

If this doesn't tell you which side of this conflict Americans should support, then I don't know what will. Do you want to be on the side of a democratic Jewish state that is trying to protect its borders and its people from constant attack, or on the side of Muslim terrorists who launch missiles from schools, hospitals, UN outposts, and mosques and now have Osama Bin Laden's son fighting for them?

An easy decision for conservatives, but oddly, not for liberals...

Hezbollah Issues "Ultimatum"

Reports TCV:

On Thursday, the Iranian-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon issued a new ultimatum. It said that there will be no ceasefire until all Israeli troops leave Lebanon.

Hezbollah's terrorist leader Nasrallah is quoted as saying there will be no ceasefire "as long as there is one Israeli soldier on Lebanese soil." Hezbollah is said to have launched over 100 rockets into Israel on Thursday, within a 30-minute period.

For liberals who see this as an opportunity to end fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, I should point out that Hezbollah is an evil terrorist organization who's mission is the destruction of Israel. There is absolutely no chance they would stop attacking Israel as long as it still existed, not to mention if it just pulls out of Lebanon. Terrorists can not be appeased or ignored, they must be destroyed.

One plus side; it looks like Hezbollah won't be taking Israel up on it's "security buffer" ceasefire plan, leaving Israel little choice but to wipe the terrorist scum off the face of the earth.

Slow News Day

It's a slow news day. Remember to read my new article, if you haven't already: "Minimum Wage Hurts More Than It Helps ," posted yesterday.

Iraqi President Predicts Iraqi Forces Taking Over Security By Year's End

Reports the Communist News Netwrok, CNN:

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said Wednesday he foresees Iraqi forces taking over security in all 18 Iraqi provinces by the end of the year.

Talabani, who was speaking at a news conference, said the transition will be gradual and multinational forces will be playing a supportive role to the Iraqi troops.

"The role of the multinational forces is a role to help the Iraqi armed forces, and, God willing, the Iraqi armed forces will at the end of the year take over all of the security in all the Iraqi provinces, little by little, gradually, and, God willing, we will be in a position to do that," he said.

Also, he said, "we have optimism that we will eliminate terrorism."

That would be great if we could be out of there by year's end, let's just make sure we get the job done first; eliminating most terrorist cells and training the Iraqis to defend themselves. If we wanted to cut and run we would have elected a Democrat. Oh wait, they were offered the chance to pull out and they all voted against it.

Right-Wing Summer Reading, Part III

And the third book of the summer that earns the honor of being placed on my "Right-Wing Summer Reading List" is, Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity: Get Out the Shovel--Why Everything You Know is Wrong, by: John Stossel; libertarian and consumer reporter.

This book is an easy and fun read, that takes a ton of "myths" such as "Lawsuits Help Consumers," "The Government Can Solve All Your Problems," and "Cold Weather Makes You Sick" and debunks them in John Stossel's "give me a break" reporting style. As with most libertarians, Stossel is at his best when defending the free market, with a vast knowledge in economics and common sense.

This book is a great read (and is broken into small sections for easy bathroom reading!) Definitely a great book for conservatives (and the rare liberal who actually wants to learn something new!)

Castro Undergoes Surgery, Temporarily Gives Up Dictatorship

Reports BET.com (BET, what's wrong with me...):

For the first time in 50 years, Cuban President Fidel Castro has been forced to hand over power -- at least temporarily -- to his 75-year-old brother, Raul, after undergoing intestinal surgery.

The move, announced late Monday on Cuban state television, provoked scenes of jubilation among exiled Cubans dancing in the streets in hopes of returning home without fear of reprisal from Castro.

The 79-year-old Communist leader, who is just two weeks away from his 80th birthday, revealed in a letter that he had suffered gastrointestinal bleeding, apparently brought on by stress from overworking and travel during the past weeks, a government statement issued from Havana said.

"The operation obligates me to undertake several weeks of rest," Castro said in the statement.

Raul, who is minister of defense and first vice president of the Council of State, is number two in the country's political hierarchy. He's considered to be the president's most trusted man, although he is said to lack his older brother's political flair and charisma.

Raul been a close confident of Castro's since their guerrilla days and the triumph of the revolution in 1959. Raul already has indicated that a collective leadership would more than likely govern a post-Castro Cuba.

This is the first time Castro has given up power since seizing control of Cuba in 1959.

It's always good to hear that a tyrant is dying. The conservative in me smiles at the thought that this monster will soon be in hell (the Catholic in me feels kind of bad about it). When a charismatic tyrant dies it is usually the first step towards the collapse of an evil government and democratic self rule. I've never been for sancions in the first place (due to the fact that I'm a free-trader and realize that embargos never harm the dictators, just their citizens), but I look forward to lighting up a Cuban cigar in celebration the day Castro dies.

Don't Be Disrespectful To Dead Fish

Reports Reuters:

An English fishing town has banned the sport of conger cuddling after an animal activist complained.

The tradition, once described as the most fun a person could have with a dead fish, involves one team trying to hit another with a conger eel tied to a rope.

It was popular in Lyme Regis on England's south coast and used as a fund-raising event for the local lifeboat.

But the sport has now been banned after an animal rights activist complained that it was "disrespectful" to dead fish and threatened to campaign against the event. Animal activists have a reputation for radical action in Britain.

"The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) were worried that it might show them up in a bad light," Rob Michael, chairman of the town's lifeboat guild, told Reuters Saturday.

"In this day and age, and with health and safety, you have to be that little bit more careful. But some people are extremely upset."

Under the rules of conger cuddling, contestants stand on small wooden blocks as if they were skittles. Members of a second team then swing a dead conger eel attached to a piece of rope at the group in a bid to knock them off.

The team with the last person standing wins. Conger eels can grow to more than three metres.

Now we can't be "disrespectful" to dead fish! How absurd! In a liberal's eyes it is alright to ban chemicals and technologies that could save millions of lives in the developing world to prevent the possibility of something bad happening to an animal, but it's not alright to be "disrespectful" to a dead fish? Come on!

Minimum Wage Hurts More Than It Helps

By: Shane

Congress is considering a bill that would mean a couple of tax cuts, including one for the heirs of multimillionaires, in exchange for an increase in the minimum wage. Increasing the minimum wage certainly goes against everything conservatives believe about economics, such as not stifling the economy with ridiculous government intervention.

The thinking behind the bill is that conservatives can pass a minimum wage hike now, and prevent liberals from using minimum wage as an issue to energize voters and get them to the polls in November. As stupid as this is, it looks like it may happen, with many "big-name" Republicans supporting the idea. One has to wonder if it is really worth a few extra votes to hurt the economy? And an increase in minimum wage would certainly hurt the economy.

First, let's look at the flip-side of this bill. Along with the minimum wage increase, conservatives have tacked on tax breaks. Tax breaks are almost always good for the economy. Even tax breaks for the "heirs of multimillionaires" are most likely better than the alternative: the government taking the money, spending a large chunk of it on bureaucracy, and then spewing out what's left at random, destroying the free market's ability to provide economic indicators which lead to a healthy, efficient, and vigorous economy with more of the jobs, services, and goods we need.

Not to mention that tax breaks for the "rich" lead to more jobs. When the rich have more money, they not only spend it, but they also invest it. Tax breaks simply lead to more jobs and a healthier economy. Also, cutting taxes generally leads to higher tax revenues, as fewer people try to avoid taxes and more companies and people come to America.

Minimum wage laws, on the other hand, force employers to hire fewer employees than they need or want, and destroy jobs for low skill workers - also known as "the poor." Wages usually increase for many others when there is a minimum wage increase, since most people think "if he got a raise, I want a raise." Unionized workers often have contracts that base wages on a differential above the minimum wage.

These wage increases across the board may seem like a good thing, but they are not. Employers can not simply say, "OK, Mr. Government, we'll start paying our employees more money." It is ridiculous and ignorant to think that companies can or would absorb the extra costs. Companies either need to raise prices on goods to pay for the higher wages, or fire (and hire fewer) people.

And it probably won't be the middle-class worker in the office or the restaurant manager who is hurt by these effects. It will be the low-skill workers loading trucks and flipping burgers who will be fired. Increasing the minimum wage makes it harder for low-skill workers to find work. Minimum wage hurts the poor, it doesn't help them.

Say you're an unemployed single father of two with no education and very few marketable skills. You're struggling to find a job, but none are available. A local restaurant is willing to hire you as a cook for $4 an hour, and you'd be willing to take the job. But since the government wants to help the poor, they've established a minimum wage of $7 an hour. The restaurant just can't afford to pay you that much, and so you don't get the job, you can't pay your bills, you lose your home, and can't feed your children. See how the government hurts when it's trying to help?

Even if you do keep your job, why should you be happy about a few extra bucks an hour? The increased cost to employers means an increase in the price of goods and services. Employees are one of many expenses that go into making a good. If the price of an employee goes up, than the cost of, say, a burger at a fast food restaurant will go up. Just like if the price of beef went up the price of that burger would increase. So, you may end up with a few extra bucks, but the price of everything you pay for will also increase slightly.

So, what are the effects of this bill likely to be? The tax cuts will benefit the economy, making it run better and possibly creating more jobs. However, most of these tax cuts were already in place, so that won't improve the economy, only keep it from getting worse. Increasing the minimum wage will lead to fewer jobs for those who need them most and more expensive goods for everyone, including those who won't get a pay raise. As usual, instead of helping the poor, the government is hurting them.
