Gitmo Detainee Confesses To Planning Attack On USS Cole, US Embassies

I'm confused, I thought everyone in Gitmo was innocent, at least, that's what the media's been telling me.

I guess Waleed Mohammed Bin Attash didn't get the memo, because he just confessed to being the "mastermind" behind the bombing of the USS Cole.

Waleed Mohammed Bin Attash, long suspected of plotting the bombing of the USS Cole, confessed to planning the attack during a hearing at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a Pentagon transcript released Monday.

He also said he helped plan the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 that killed 213, the transcript said. Seventeen sailors were killed and 37 injured when suicide bombers steered an explosives-laden boat into the battleship on Oct. 12, 2000.

"I participated in the buying or purchasing of the explosives," bin Attash said when asked what his role was in the attacks on the Cole and the embassies. "I put together the plan for the operation a year and a half prior to the operation, buying the boat and recruiting the members that did the operation."

Of course, Attash isn't the only "innocent hostage" down in Gitmo accidentally confessing to crimes. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has been going on for about a week about how he helped plan 9/11 and the murder of Daniel Pearl. In fact, he boasted that he personally beheaded the "American Jew" and for those with any doubts, he said "there are pictures of me on the internet holding his head."

Long live Gitmo! If it continues to be this successful, I'll be wearing my "Club Gitmo" t-shirt with extra pride.

The 'Top Of The World'

Jawa thought it appropriate on the anniversary of the first WTC bombing to remind us all what it was like from the "top of the world:"

I'm saddened every time I watch a movie from the 80s or 90s and I see those incredible towers standing side-by-side, towering over the rest of the New York skyline. The victims of both the attacks on the WTC will be in my prayers today.

BBC on the 9/11 "Truthers"

Well, at least the 9/11 "truthers" were right about one thing. They thought that the BBC investigation into their movement would be embarrassing for them and it sure as hell is, tearing their nut-job conspiracy theories apart at every deviation from sanity - namely the whole damn thing. Here's a great excerpt (hat tip to LGF, where there are two more clips). I'm still trying to find the whole thing, because it's worthy of posting:

BBC To Tear Apart "Truthers"

The 9/11 "Truthers" are starting to sweat the BBC documentary on their movement that will be airing this weekend, presumptively labeling it a "sophisticated hit piece." All of this translates to the fact that it's going to be good, enjoyable and educated TV.

This weekend's highly anticipated BBC documentary on the 9/11 truth movement is likely to be a sophisticated hit piece, according to those who were interviewed for the program and others wary of the motives behind the creators of the show.

The BBC are extensively promoting the show via commercials during peak time viewing and yesterday featured a reasonably balanced summary of the 9/11 truth movement on their website. A preview clip and an extended clip showing Alex Jones and Jim Marrs at Dealy Plaza were also released yesterday. Seemingly fair promotional material shouldn't suck anyone in to believing anything else than the fact that this is most probably going to be a severe attack on 9/11 truth.

I'll be on the road this weekend, so I hope it ends up on Youtube.

'Truther' Gets Schooled

9/11 truther gets his ass handed to him by a iron worker who actually knows what he's talking about:

The video plugs the site 911Myths.com, which seems to be a decent bank of "Truther"-debunking knowledge.

Zawarhi Threatens US - Shock!

New from Zawarhi:

Al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri warned Americans of a reprisal "far worse than anything they have seen" if Washington did not change its policies toward Muslim states.

"You are facing the Islamic rage ... what awaits you, should you press on (with current policies), is far worse than anything you have seen," Zawahri said in a video posted on the Internet on Wednesday.

Oh thank God. If we only leave Iraq and Afghanistan the Muslims will leave us alone. Remember how peaceful they were before we went to war? You know, like September 11, 2001. We weren't at war then and they treated us just fine.

Weekend Roundup

And now, a weekend roundup of the stories I would post on, if I didn't have other things to do:

First, from the NYT:

Ney Is Sentenced to 2½ Years in Abramoff Case
Next LGF has a great update on the "Jamil Hussein" debacle, I suggest you read the whole thing:
Whose Credibility Is Gone Now?
Speaking of "Jamil Hussein," Flopping Aces has a great post on the subject too:
The Latest & Greatest On The "Burning Six" Story
Also on Flopping Aces, the somewhat misplaced, but very informative, "9/11 Mysteries Debunked."

And finally, a hilarious story:
A 29-year-old man who apparently was horsing around with some friends crashed through a window and fell 16 stories at the downtown Minneapolis Hyatt Regency early Saturday morning.

His most severe injury? Police say he may have only a broken leg.

It's not an injury, but police also noted that he shit his pants.

Morroccan Who Abetts the Murder of Thousands Claims Trial Unfair

From Reuters' "9/11 hijacker friend seeks halt to sentence hearing"

Lawyers representing a Moroccan friend of the September 11 hijackers demanded on Friday the suspension of a hearing to decide his sentence for being an accessory to mass murder.

Mounir El Motassadeq, a member of a group of radical Arab students in Hamburg who organized the 2001 attacks in which nearly 3,000 people died, faces up to 15 years in prison.

...

Motassadeq, 32, who was in court on Friday, is one of only two people convicted of involvement in the September 11 attacks.

The other is Zacarias Moussaoui, a French citizen of Moroccan descent who was sentenced to life imprisonment by a U.S. court in May 2006.

Germany's top appeals court in Karlsruhe found Motassadeq guilty last November of abetting the murder of 246 passengers and crew who died on four planes that crashed on September 11.

So this guy has been convicted of abetting mass murder of Americans, and he "faces up to 15 years in prison"? God forbid. He should hang.

Freedom Towers Go Up

Construction on the Freedom Tower has begun at Ground Zero with the placement of huge steel columns. I still wish they'd just rebuild the WTC towers, but anything's better than nothing...
