Gitmo At 104

In honor of the anniversary of the US "[assuming] territorial control over Guantánamo Bay under the 1903 Cuban-American Treaty, which granted the United States a perpetual lease of the area," here's a video of Rep. Duncan Hunter describing how horrendously well the inmates at Gitmo are treated:

An historical note: "The current Cuban government rejects the Cuban-American Treaty on the grounds that it violates article 52 of the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, and therefore considers the U.S. presence in Guantánamo to be an illegal occupation of the area." Well that's funny Fidel. Why don't you go ahead and try and take it back. Just give us any reason to hang your sorry ass.

Further note: Leftist moonbats are clearly still editing at will over at Wikipedia, where you'll find this gem:

Recently, the base at Guantánamo Bay began hosting a detainment camp for suspected militant combatants collected (actions that are viewed by some as kidnapping) from both Afghanistan and Iraq, or from secret NATO prisons in Europe (discovered recently, in 2006).

Castro Death Party

I'm sorry, but how great is this:

With Fidel Castro seriously ill, the city of Miami is making plans to throw a party at the Orange Bowl when the Cuban president dies.

The city commission earlier this month appointed a committee — whose official job is to "Discuss an event at the Orange Bowl in case expected events occur in Cuba" — to plan the party. Such a gathering has long been part of the city's Castro death plan, but firming up the specifics has become more urgent since Castro became ill last summer and turned over power to his brother, Raul.
Ah, feels like the good ol' days, you know, when we celebrated the deaths of our enemies. Expect some liberal whining.

Democrats Try To Save a Failing Cuba

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. lawmakers, with an eye on reports of failing health of Cuban President Fidel Castro, said they intend in the new Democratic-led Congress to seek to ease restrictions on travel and trade with the communist island.

The new legislative push coincides with a moment of change in Cuba. Castro, 80, handed power provisionally to his brother, Raul, 75, after undergoing surgery in July. Recent reports suggest Castro suffered complications from the surgery and his recovery has been slow.

Why is that Democrats are vehemently opposed to trade with any country but the Communist ones? This is clearly some porpagandistic move to show the new Congess' support of Communist dictators like Castro, and the up-and-comer, Raul.
The first step would be to allow the 1.2 million Cubans living in the United States to travel to Cuba whenever they want, reversing the restriction to once every three years set by the Bush administration, said Rep. Bill Delahunt, a Democrat from Massachusetts.

"That's going to be my priority," Delahunt told Reuters in a telephone interview on Thursday. He said he was optimistic the legislation could pass this year.

The restrictions imposed by President George W. Bush also reduced the amount of money Cuban Americans could send to their relatives back home.

It's good to know that with Muslim madmen developing nuclear weapons left and right, and with a war going on, Delahunt's "priority" in Congress is to allow these now-ungrateful immigrants to pour their money into the failing Cuban economy in the hopes that it may stay afloat for another 40 years or so.

Castro May Be In 'Grave Condition'

Drudge says that Castro is in "grave condition." I've heard it before, but I'm holding my breath out of sheer hope. Nothing would improve my shitty week faster than a dictator dying a painful death:

"In the summer, the Cuban leader bled abundantly in the intestine," El Pais reported. "This adversity led him to the operating table, according to the medical sources. His condition, moreover, was aggravated because the infection spread and caused peritonitis, the inflammation of the membrane that covers the digestive organs."

The recovery from the first operation, in which part of his large intestine was extracted and the colon was connected to the rectum, did not go well. The link broke and he released feces into the abdomen that caused another peritonitis, the report said.

A second operation to clean and drain the infected area also failed, the paper said. He was then hit with inflammation of the bile duct, an illness which has a[n] 80 percent mortality rate, el Pais said. A prothesis made in South Korea was implanted and failed and later was replaced with one made in Spain.

El Pais said that in December, when Garcia Sabrido visited, Castro had an abdominal wound that was leaking more than a pint of fluids a day, causing "'a severe loss of nutrients." The Cuban leader was being fed intravenously, the report said.
