Obvious Headline of the Day

"Sen. Barak Obama Announces His Candidacy for President." I'm sure we were all wondering if he'd do it; I mean, he could have gone either way. Right....

Anyway, after his announcement yesterday that he'd be making an announcement today, Barack has announced he'll be running for President.

Surprise of the Day: Dems To Raise Taxes

Flopping Aces has an article from a subscription-based website about how the Democrats have begun (like they weren't already planning it) discussions on implementing new taxes:

Senate Democrats are considering a step in the politically sensitive direction of tax increases, but only to offset an $8.3 billion package of new tax breaks.

Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., proposes to limit deferred compensation to business executives to $1 million annually in the Senate version of a measure (HR 2) that would increase the federal minimum wage to $7.25 an hour and provide small-business tax breaks.

The Finance panel is scheduled to mark up the legislation Wednesday.

House and Senate tax writers are at odds on the small-business tax provisions. New York Democrat Charles B. Rangel, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, wants to keep the minimum wage bill free of tax cuts.

The House has a new pay-as-you-go rule that requires offsets for the cost of any new tax cuts or entitlement spending.

According to lobbyists and aides in both parties, a list of offsets circulated by Baucus includes the plan to raise $806 million in revenue over 10 years by capping the amount of compensation that can be deferred annually. Pay above the amount that could not be deferred would be subject to the top federal income tax rate of 35 percent.
Why can't Democrats wrap there sometimes bizarrely shaped heads around the idea that lower taxes leads to higher government revenue?

As mentioned above, the rest of the article is pay-to-read, but Flopping Aces has been kind enough to post the whole damn thing.

Also, congratulations to Flopping Aces for the "Obvious Headline of the Day":
Democrats Consider Tax Hikes

While I'm talking about Flopping Aces, they've found a great liberal conspiracy about Donald Rumsfeld being responsible for bombing the Pentagon.

Obama To Run For President

Guh... Not that I'm surprised, but the thought of him in the White House makes me feel like vomiting all over my laptop... And a Hillary/Obama ticket... I think I just died a little on the inside...

On a side note, I think we can count this as the "Obvious Headline of the Day." I mean, did anyone suspect he wouldn't run? Then again, weren't we all sure Hillary would run in '04?

*** Update - Jan 16, 3:38 pm ***

There's a video on Obama's website, but I don't know why you would want to watch it.

Obvious Headline of the Day

What's obvious about this headline is what the heathen Muslim (pardon the redundancy) was finally able to catch on to:

Hamas leader says Israel's existence is a reality
I would like to be the first to congratulate Khaled Meshaal on being the only Arab on record as noticing that there's a pesky little country over there in the Middle East, a fact that has escaped most Muslims, who wonder who in the world it was that beat their asses in the several wars that Israel has fought in.

Of course, Khaled Meshaal has to be measured in his obviousness, adding the condition that a Palestinian state has to be created before Israel gets "formal recognition." If there isn't a Palestinian state yet, what the Hell is Palestine doing with all of that land Israel - I mean "the demonic non-entity" - gave them?

I didn't read the story past the first paragraph, but you can here.

-- Update, 9:03 am --

Hamas is now denying that Khaled ever said he would acknowledge Israel, here's a post on that.

Obvious Headline of the Day

From our friends at the New York Times:

Top Democrats Oppose More Troops in Iraq
But don't worry, they "want to do everything [they] can to help Iraq succeed in the future," they just don't want it to come at any cost or effort.
