First Victory For Unborn Children Since 1973

Unborn children got their first major win before the US Supreme Court today, as the court decided to uphold the partial-abortion ban:

The Supreme Court's conservative majority handed anti-abortion forces a major victory Wednesday in a decision that bans a controversial abortion procedure and set the stage for further restrictions.

For the first time since the court established a woman's right to an abortion in 1973, the justices upheld a nationwide ban on a specific abortion method, labeled partial-birth abortion by its opponents.

While this is good news, millions of unborn children are still be slaughtered daily around the world. At the very least, this will further bring to the attention of the public how this horrible procedure works.

Justice Kennedy wrote the majority opinion (odd), in which he notes the law is not unconstitutional in that, "The law need not give abortion doctors unfettered choice in the course of their medical practice..." But curses! Do conservatives want women to die! The law doesn't include an exception for when the mother's life is at risk! This argument just shows that liberals are missing the argument conservatives make. We believe that abortion is murder; in what way does that make it sound like we'd make an exception for murder to save the mother's life?

President Bush says:
"I am pleased that the Supreme Court has upheld a law that prohibits the abhorrent procedure of partial birth abortion," he said. "Today's decision affirms that the Constitution does not stand in the way of the people's representatives enacting laws reflecting the compassion and humanity of America."
I don't know who decided that the Supreme Court has the right to define when life begins and ends, but I guess that's what happens when the court has the ability to tell us what their powers are. Checks and balances? More like Judicial rule with an iron fist.

It was a 5-4 decision, with Kennedy, Alito, Thomas, Roberts, and Scalia in the majority. All-in-all, great news.

***Update, 4:44pm***

Drudge rounded up the response of most of the Presidential candidates.

Hillary: "Erosion of our Constitutional rights..."
Obama: "I strongly disagree..."
Edwards: "I couldn't disagree more strongly..."
Romney: "A step forward..."
McCain: "I'm very happy about the decision..."
Giuliani: "The Supreme Court reached the correct conclusion..." (BS)
Brownback:
The ruling would result "in lives being saved."

Well, I guess Edwards will get the Democrat nomination. After all, he "couldn't disagree more strongly." Obama just disagreed.

Zell Miller: Abortion Broke Social Security And Caused Military And Worker Shortages

Gotta love Zell Miller! He just gave a good speech at a pro-life meeting, including this bit, which is getting some (some) media attention (most notably, Rush Limbaugh, who gets a hat tip):

[The] killing: of unborn children has caused a number of social problems in the United States, including limiting the number of people who could be productive workers and contribute to social security. How could this great land of plenty produce too few people in the last 30 years..? Here is the brutal truth that no one dares to mention: We’re too few because too many of our babies have been killed... If those 45 million children had lived, today they would be defending our country, they would be filling our jobs, they would be paying into Social Security.
A good point, but liberals are pissed. You can't shed abortion in a poor light! Of course, this isn't really any different than when "rouge" economist Steven D. Levitt proposed that abortion led to a decrease in the crime rate. I didn't hear as many libs bitching then.

Of course, Rush notes that Miller's assertion is off. Rush asks how many of those children would have been Dems, who wouldn't have jobs and would never even think about joining the military? Of course, I'd say (following Kerry's lead) most of these murdered babies would have been poor blacks, so poor and so stupid they'd be duped into joining the military and get "stuck in Iraq."

'Janie's Got A Gun'

This week's conservative song is "Janie's Got A Gun" by Aerosmith. About how the Second Amendment is the great equalizer, especially for women, this song tells us about an abused girl killing her father when no one would help her. (Note to liberals: give women guns and we won't have to worry about your unrealistic "incest/rape" pregnancies that aparently happen so much, requiring abortions). Here's the song:

Here're the lyrics:

Dum, dum, dum, honey what have you done?
Dum, dum, dum it's the sound of my gun.
Dum, dum, dum, honey what have you done?
Dum, dum, dum it's the sound

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her whole world's come undone
From lookin' straight at the sun
What did her daddy do?
What did he put you through?
They said when Janie was arrested they found him underneath a train
But man, he had it comin' Now that Janie's got a gun she ain't never gonna be the same.

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Tell me now it's untrue.
What did her daddy do?
He jacked a little bitty baby
The man has got to be insane
They say the spell that he was under the lightning and the thunder knew that someone had to stop the rain

Run away, run away from the pain yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Run away run away from the pain yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away, run away, run, run away

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
What did her daddy do?
It's Janie's last I.O.U.
She had to take him down easy and put a bullet in his brain
She said 'cause nobody believes me. The man was such a sleeze. He ain't never gonna be the same.

Run away, run away from the pain yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away run away from the pain yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away, run away, run, run away

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Everybody is on the run

Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Because Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Janie's got a gun

Miracles Of Life, Judges Of Death

Who's ready for a story that the media will either ignore, or completely miss the point on?

Her name means resilient fighter and her doctors and nurses said she is more than that -- Amillia Sonia Taylor is making history.

"To me it's just a miracle," a nurse on staff at Baptist Children's Hospital said.

Amillia is the new world record holder for a baby to survive through gestational age, according to the University of Iowa's national registry for the tiniest babies.

"We have a special baby here today because she was extremely premature at birth 21 weeks and 6 days," said neonatologist Dr. William Smalling. "There is no known survivor born this early to ever go home and not only is the baby going home she is thriving and doing well. It's a special day for us all here."

Surrounded by the team at Baptist Children's Hospital that has cared for her since her unexpected arrival, Amillia is now ready to go home. Doctors said they marvel at what the little girl has taught them.

"Well... I learned that we can work with babies this small," Smalling said. "Previously it was thought to be technically impossible."

"She showed us early on that she was a fighter and wanted to be here," said Dr. Paul Fassbach, a neonatologist.

Amillia was born Oct. 24, 2006. She was the world's fourth-smallest baby, weighing 284 grams (just under 10 ounces) when she was born. She was just 9.5 inches long -- barely longer than a ballpoint pen.

"We've never even really resuscitated babies this small right," Fassbach said. "Now, the recommendations for the American Academy of Pediatrics is that we can resuscitate babies that are 23 weeks or by birth weight over 400 grams. So, babies were considered non viable or too immature to survive outside the uterus if they were born earlier than that."

Doctors said that at 23 weeks old, their survival rate is 30 percent. Now, after nearly four months at Baptist's Children's Hospital neonatal intensive care unit, baby Amillia will be going home healthy and thriving.

...

"I guess I'm still in amazement, really," 37-year-old Tayor said. "Even looking at her now, sometimes, it was hard to imagine she would get this far. She looks like a real baby now, you know."

"She's asleep now, but usually she'll look at you and you can talk to her and she smiles," Taylor said. "So, everything a baby is supposed to do for her age, she's doing, which is amazing. Sometimes there are developmental delays you have to wait awhile for her to do, but she's surprised us all."

"I can't wait until she comes home," Jacquiria Cade, the Taylor's soon-to-be-adopted 16-year-old daughter, said.
I've never been one to use the "viability" of an infant out of the womb as an argument for whether or not the State has the right to execute them, but it's always nice to be able to smack down even the most ridiculous of the anti-life liberals' arguments.

Meanwhile, here's an aborted 22-week-old baby - older than Amillia and therefor possibly "viable." (Graphic, if you haven't scrolled down already, and you don't want to see a murdered baby, then stop.)

Meanwhile, a judge in Italy has forced a 13 year-old girl to murder her unborn child:
Italian Judge Imposes Abortion on 13-Year-Old
  • A 13-year-old girl from the Italian town of Torino has been forced to have an abortion due to her angry parents' opposition. The law states that minors must defer the decision to their parents.
  • After the abortion, she threatened suicide after going into a frenzy, requiring treatment. Torino Archbishop Severino Poletto said "The unborn baby is still a life and I defend life whatever the situation." The father is her 15-year-old boyfriend.
  • "Society must take of this child. I certainly oppose abortions but this case allows us to reflect on the situation. We have to take a step back and ask ourselves how this could have happened to a 13 year old girl," he said.
The world's going to Hell. Or then again, it's been there for a while.

    Giuliani Begins Shift Rightward

The NYT had this to say about Giuliani shifting his abortion rhetoric to the right (try to ignore the NYT's pompous, elitist sneers):

As he prepares for a possible run for president — a road that goes deep into the heart of conservative America — Rudolph W. Giuliani takes with him a belief in abortion rights that many think could derail his bid to capture the Republican nomination.

But in recent weeks, as he has courted voters in South Carolina and talked to conservative media outlets, Mr. Giuliani has highlighted a different element of his thinking on the abortion debate. He has talked about how he would appoint “strict constructionist” judges to the Supreme Court — what abortion rights advocates say is code among conservatives for those who seek to overturn or limit Roe v. Wade, the 1973 court ruling declaring a constitutional right to abortion.
All I can say is that I hope it's true. We're talking about a guy who actually has a good shot at handily defeating any Democrat opponent, and unfortunately he is extremely to the Left on abortion (once saying that, "hypothetically," he'd pay for his own daughter's abortion if she asked him).

34 Years and 30 Million Lives Later

Today is the 34-year anniversary of the Roe v. Wade court case that obligated every state in the Union to allow a woman to kill her unborn child. Since the decision anywhere from 1.5 million and 2 million babies have been legally murdered annually for a staggering total of more than 30 million innocent lives "terminated."

I have a problem with people calling abortion in America a holocaust, but not because I think it's disrespectful or overblown - on the contrary, I think it far understates the horrors inflicted on America's unborn (and partially-born) since 1973.

I think the best argument against abortion is the graphic images documenting the "waste" that is left over when the procedure is said and done.

Out of respect for those who do not wish to see such images, I won't post them here (I should note that if you are pro-abortion and refuse to look at these pictures you're ignoring the truth and it only makes you that much more guilty for the blood of 30 million human beings.)

I encourage all of you, however, who have not seen the horrors of abortion to view this picture, which show the carcass of a murdered baby, just 22 weeks old.

One day America will outlaw abortion and realize that they were too late and that nothing can make this right.

    New 'Four Deminsional' Ultrasound

Liberals have no problem with murdering them:

The image “http://www.drudgereport.com/wb.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I couldn't find the actual age of these babies - to confirm if it was legal to "abort" them - but since most liberals would rather abortion be allowed up to the moment of birth, the point is moot.

    Obama on Life and Crime

Barack Obama has been the media's cause célèbre lately because he's the biggest liberal with what they perceive to be the best shot of winning the presidential election in 2008.

This post focuses on Obama's pitiful record on abortion, capital punishment and punishing sex offenders.

    Abortion:

Barack Obama is actually against the " Born Alive Infant Protection Act" (having failed to support it on four occasions) which states, in part:

... the term ''born alive'', with respect to a member of the species homo sapiens, means the complete expulsion or extraction from his or her mother of that member, at any stage of development, who after such expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut, and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.

In other words, not only does Barack Hussein Obama believe that an unborn child is not a living thing, he believes that until you cut the umbilical cord that thing that just came out of that woman has absolutely no rights - including a right to life. This law passed the U.S. Senate 98-0 (before Obama was a senator).

    Death Penalty:

Being the hypocritical liberal that Obama is, he protects the life of murderous gang members more than those of newly-born infants. He voted against that " Severo Anti-Gang Amendments of 2001" in the IL State House. The bill sought to qualify gang members that murdered first responders for the death penalty (Obama was one of only nine to vote against the bill).

    Punishing Sexual Predators:

No other group of criminals have proven themselves to be more vial and un-reformable as sexual predators. It stands to reason that the representatives of the American people have enacted tough laws to not only keep them off of our streets, but to punish them for the heinous things they've done. That's why it's so outrageous that Barack Obama was the only senator in Illinois to vote against SB 485, a bill that sought to deny sexual predators early release for "good behavior".

The summary of SB 485 reads:

Amend the County Jail Good Behavior Allowance Act. Provides that a person in a county jail may not receive a good behavior allowance if he or she is convicted of criminal sexual assault in which the victim was under 18 years of age at the time of the offense and he or she was a family member or if he or she is convicted of criminal sexual abuse or aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Effective immediately.

    No wonder Obama supports abortions-in-the-case-of
-incest-and-rape*, he has to fix the damage from when he votes against the laws that prevent incest and rape.

*(you'll only hear a liberal say the word "abortion" if "in-the-case-of-incest-and-rape" is attached. Otherwise they use the term "choice," usually connected to the word "right.")

John McCain Would Support Overturning Roe v. Wade

Here's a post over at the Daily Kos titled "John McCain would support overturning Roe v. Wade ":

... McCain has flip-flopped on his 1999 statement that he wouldn't support overturning Roe v Wade. This is a fantastic catch. They've included the video at that link, and the ABC transcript:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Let me ask one question about abortion. Then I want to turn to Iraq. You're for a constitutional amendment banning abortion, with some exceptions for life and rape and incest.

MCCAIN: Rape, incest and the life of the mother. Yes.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So is President Bush, yet that hasn't advanced in the six years he's been in office. What are you going to do to advance a constitutional amendment that President Bush hasn't done?

MCCAIN: I don't think a constitutional amendment is probably going to take place, but I do believe that it's very likely or possible that the Supreme Court should — could overturn Roe v. Wade, which would then return these decisions to the states, which I support.

STEPHANOPOULOS: And you'd be for that?

MCCAIN: Yes, because I'm a federalist. Just as I believe that the issue of gay marriage should be decided by the states, so do I believe that we would be better off by having Roe v. Wade return to the states. And I don't believe the Supreme Court should be legislating in the way that they did on Roe v. Wade.

    (Emphasis added.)

This man is not a "moderate". He's pandering to the extreme religious right. Clearly, should McCain decide to run in 2008 , a vote for him would be a vote against a woman's right to chose.

Bad news for Kos - good news for conservatives that are concerned that McCain may be our nominee in 2008.
