Zell Miller: Abortion Broke Social Security And Caused Military And Worker Shortages

Gotta love Zell Miller! He just gave a good speech at a pro-life meeting, including this bit, which is getting some (some) media attention (most notably, Rush Limbaugh, who gets a hat tip):

[The] killing: of unborn children has caused a number of social problems in the United States, including limiting the number of people who could be productive workers and contribute to social security. How could this great land of plenty produce too few people in the last 30 years..? Here is the brutal truth that no one dares to mention: We’re too few because too many of our babies have been killed... If those 45 million children had lived, today they would be defending our country, they would be filling our jobs, they would be paying into Social Security.

A good point, but liberals are pissed. You can't shed abortion in a poor light! Of course, this isn't really any different than when "rouge" economist Steven D. Levitt proposed that abortion led to a decrease in the crime rate. I didn't hear as many libs bitching then.

Of course, Rush notes that Miller's assertion is off. Rush asks how many of those children would have been Dems, who wouldn't have jobs and would never even think about joining the military? Of course, I'd say (following Kerry's lead) most of these murdered babies would have been poor blacks, so poor and so stupid they'd be duped into joining the military and get "stuck in Iraq."

Poetic Justice - Criminals "Stealing" Illegals' Jobs

"You'll never get rid of the illegals! Even if you try and crack down there are just too many!" So say the liberal and the misguided conservative alike. Somewhat contradicting themselves they also say, "If you get rid of all of the illegals our economy will collapse without their cheap labor."

Conservatives have long stated in rebuttal to the first argument that you wouldn't really need to round up every illegal in the country to get rid of them. All you need to do is crackdown on those that would hire them and remove their access to welfare in all its forms. Once you remove the incentive for the illegal to be here, they'll go where they can find work - somewhere else.

As to the second point, conservatives have long understood that in the absence of a cheap labor force the market will adjust and compensate through innovation like it always does. Another great solution is to kill two birds with one stone, and that's what they're doing in Colorado:

DENVER, March 3 — As migrant laborers flee Colorado because of tough new immigration restrictions, worried farmers are looking to prisoners to fill their places in the fields.

In a pilot program run by the state Corrections Department, supervised teams of low-risk inmates beginning this month will be available to harvest the swaths of sweet corn, peppers and melons that sweep the southeastern portion of the state.

Under the program, which has drawn criticism from groups concerned about immigrants’ rights and from others seeking changes in the criminal justice system, farmers will pay a fee to the state, and the inmates, who volunteer for the work, will be paid about 60 cents a day, corrections officials said.

Concerned about the possible shortage of field labor, Dorothy B. Butcher, a state representative from Pueblo and a supporter of the program, said, “The workers on these farms do the weeding, the harvesting, the storing, everything that comes with growing crops for the market.”

What an idea. We want (notice, I didn't write need) cheap labor. What sector of the population is largely worthless, and a pariah on society?

Apparently America Doesn't Like Illegal Immigration, Who Knew?

68% of Americans believe we should be cracking down on illegal immigrants.

In a recent poll, people were told that "the recently passed Hazleton [, PA] ordinances suspend the business licenses of employers who hire illegal aliens, penalize landlords who rent to illegal aliens with fines and make English the official language." 68% agreed that this was a good ordinance. 25% did not.

Just thought I'd let everyone know where America stands.

The Effectiveness Of Catch and Release

A surprisingly open story from the NYT, with a quote that shows the effectiveness of catch and release programs. After the US government began catch and release due to lack of facilities to house illegals:

[Illegals] would cross the river in droves in broad daylight, run up to Border Patrol agents and line up to be arrested, knowing they would be released and could then continue on their journey. More than 200 a day were arrested in Eagle Pass alone.

Illegal Immigration Slows As Border Cracks Down

Good news on the border:

All along the U.S.-Mexican border, there are signs that the measures that the U.S. Border Patrol and other agencies have taken over the past year, from erecting new barriers to posting 6,000 National Guardsmen as armed sentinels, are beginning to slow the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.

For 10 years, Eduardo Valenzuela has been crossing the Mexican border near Yuma, Arizona, illegally, trekking over desert scrub and hopping on a freight train to get to his job with a construction company in Phoenix, Arizona.

But on a recent afternoon, Valenzuela and four travel companions from his hometown of Los Mochis plopped down on a bench in a park in the border town of San Luis Río Colorado, exhausted and dispirited. Border patrol agents had caught them two times over three days, hounding them with helicopters and four-wheel-drive trucks.

"It's become much more difficult," Valenzuela said, echoing the comments of dozens of other migrants.

The only barometer to gauge whether migrants are being discouraged to attempt entering the United States is how many migrants are caught. In the past four months, the number has dropped 27 percent compared with the same period last year. In two sections around Yuma and near Del Rio, Texas, the numbers have fallen by nearly two- thirds, officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security say.

Gee. Who would have thought that building barriers and adding personnel would slow the flow of illegal immigration. Still, I think this story ought to be taken in a "that's good progress, now we've got a long way to go down that track" kind of story, and not a "our work is done here" kind of story, which the media no-doubt wants it to be.

AP: Fears Over Illegal Immigration Fueling KKK Membership

Fears over illegal immigration are fueling a resurgence in membership to the KuKlux Klan in North Carolina and across the country, according to Klan officials and organizations that track hate groups.

In Gaston County near Charlotte, the imperial wizard of the Mount Holly-based chapter of the Klan says membership is growing faster than he's seen since joining in the 1960s.

"People are tired of this mess," said Virgil Griffin, 62. "The illegal immigrants are taking this country over."

Griffin recounted 1960s Klan rallies when dozens, sometimes hundreds, marched through towns such as Mount Holly, Salisbury and Wilmington.

"We were strong in the '60s," he said. "We're not that strong now. We're hoping to get there."
The group wants to increase its numbers so it can influence local and national politics. The Klan's goals include military border enforcement and ending taxpayer-funded services to illegal immigrants.

Is the liberal media shameless? Yes. Practically comparing those who believe in border enforcement with the KKK? My God, no scruples, whatsoever....

Eleven Iraqis carrying false passports and heading to California were arrested at Monterrey's airport, immigration officials said Monday.

Nine men, a woman and a two-year-old girl traveled from Madrid, Spain, to Monterrey, where they were detained Saturday, an immigration official said on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak publicly about the arrests.

None of the Iraqi citizens appear on terrorist watch lists and they told authorities they were Chaldean Christians trying to get to California were they would request asylum, the official said.

Albeit none of these Iraqis appear to have been aiming to terrorize the US, and you'd better believe that every liberal will point out that they were only trying to escape from persecution, but this is still a perfect example of why we need to defend our Southern border. Besides protecting our economy from ruin, besides protecting our culture from Balkanization, and besides protecting citizens from your run-of-the-mill, immigrant crime, we need to defend our nation from the possibility of foreign terrorists coming into our country unbeknownst to the government and wreaking havoc.

Illegal Moron Wants Deportation Rather Than Jail Time For Sexual Assault

Another case of illegal alien crime: "Illegal Immigrant Charged With Sex Assault Asks to be Deported to Avoid Punishment." This ass actually had the audacity to ask to be deported?

Not many illegal immigrants ask to be deported. But Jose Vallejo of Mexico did, rather than face a potential prison term of 30 years for sex assault here in the United States.

I say we hang the moron from a lamp post. Granted, it would cost a lot to jail him, but that's what the bastard can expect for coming to our country illegally and committing sexual assault. Here's the story's description of the crime for which this criminal wants no punishment:

Prosecutors in Illinois say Vallejo, who is now a 17-year-old Mexican national, pinned his four-year-old female victim down on a bed then molested her on April 12, 2006. Even though Vallejo was only 16 at the time of the alleged crime, he is being charged as an adult because of the age of the victim. He faces three counts, including aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of unlawful restraint.

Note - Rutheford: He probably wants to be deported so he can sneek right back in.

Amnesty's Champion New RNC Chair

Mel Martinez has been elected as the chairman of the RNC. In his acceptance speech he said, among other things:

To be the Party of the future means that we also have to be a party that opens the door wide-open so that all Americans feel welcome. There are too many Americans who do not understand that the principles of Abraham Lincoln,Teddy Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan speak to their hopes, their dreams, and their aspirations. Electing Martinez as chairman was another step on behalf of Republicans to make themselves the party of the past. Congratulations Mel - you may lose us the Presidency in 2008.

2 Border Patrol Agents to Turn Themselves in Today for Shooting Mexican Drug RunnerTwo Texas Border Patrol agents — convicted of shooting a Mexican drug runner in the backside while on duty — were scheduled to turn themselves in to U.S. Marshals Wednesday, and there's still no word on whether President Bush will grant them a pardon.

Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean are scheduled to begin serving 11 and 12 years, respectively, on Wednesday for the February 2005 non-fatal shooting of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila.

Several groups, including Friends of the Border Patrol, The Minutemen and Grassfire.org, have been trying through petitions to keep the agents out of prison — through either a motion to U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone to allow them to remain free on bond during an appeal or through a presidential pardon from Bush.

But Cardone on Tuesday denied a motion for the two ex-agents to remain free on bond until their appeals.

They're getting over a Decade in jail for shooting a drug runner in the ass - without killing him!?!

Drudge has a story about some school children who were kicked off a bus - in America (Minesota, I believe) - for speaking English.

Rachel Armstrong sent her kids to pick up the bus as usual Monday, but after the driver let the kids on, he told them he would not pick them up again. He even said he wouldn't take them home that afternoon.

Armstrong left work early Tuesday, forced to pick up her kids from Phalen Lake Elementary School.

Her twin girls, 10, and her son, 8, were kicked off their regular school bus. They were told by the bus driver the route is for non-English speaking students only.

"I was furious. I was at work and I was just mad." Armstrong said. "I felt like we were being discriminated because we speak English. Just because they speak English, they can't ride the school bus. I mean, this is America, right?"

Administrators at St. Paul Public Schools admit the district made a mistake when it stranded the kids at school Monday.

Someone ought to inform Miss Armstrong that she no longer lives in America, but in what is now afectionately called Mexisota. And although the school district apologized - only for stranding the children - they will no longer be able to ride the bus.

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona's border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state's West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

Meanwhile, in California:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will propose that all Californian children, including those in the state illegally, be guaranteed medical insurance as part of the health-care overhaul he intends to unveil next week, according to officials familiar with the plan.

Spectacular.

Got this via email (it said it was an actual letter to a Senator, but who knows), I found it funny and informative:

Dear Senator Harkin,
As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue
Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted
the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the
process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S.
Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the
Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions

is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years,

all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes

for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am

anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put,

those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so

I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for

paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively?

This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy

taxes in 2004 and 2005. Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the

local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped

A disgusting story from Hot Air, "Illegal aliens murder 12 Americans daily:"

Twelve Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens, according to statistics released by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. If those numbers are correct, it translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. ThatÂ’s 21,900 since Sept. 11, 2001.

Apparentlyy Captain Ed is questioning the veracity of this story, but even if it's off a little, we know illegals kill Americans. We know it happens quite often. I've put the stories on this blog, and Michelle Malkin has done a good job of posting them, too.

The fact is, not all illegals are just dads trying to scrape by to send money home to their starving children. A lott of them are violent criminals. How many Americans should we let die before we do something about it?
